02.24.2016 - Spooner General Contractor Joins Gold Cup Sponsorship Program

gc_logo.2012.png

CONCORD, NC - On the heels of the major announcement last week regarding Tiered fees and significant purse payouts for best overall finishers in certain classes in the 2016 RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series, sponsors have been lining up to become a part of the excitement for the new season for the top 4 Cycle Sprint program in America. The latest to join is Spooner General Contractor, sponsoring the second day of competition for the Sportsman Pro Gas Animal Lite class. While the Sportsman Pro Gas Animal Lite class will be listed as a Trophy Class during the weekend, competitors in that class still have a shot at a $200 payday during the 10 lap Friday Night Shootout race, immediately following practice.

The Spooner General Contractor sponsorship is the continuation of a long line of sponsors who have signed up for 2016, those others including Coyote Motorsports, MattMillerRacing.com, Briggs and Stratton, Boon and Sons, Water Medic, Bordeaux Dyno Cams, Brads Heating and Cooling, Jim’s Marine, Inferno Racing Clutches, Trackside Kart Supply, Mikim Motorsports, and Noram Clutches, with the list growing each day.

The 2016 season for the RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series kicks off April 15-17 at the ever-popular 103rd Street Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Florida.

In addition to the Shootout races for both Sportsman and Junior Pro Gas, each paying $200 to win, $100 for second, and $50 for third, as well as trophies for the top 5, several classes, including Senior Pro Gas Medium and Heavy, as well as Senior LO206, will run for the chance for a driver to come away with a $500 weekend payday, with $250 going to second and $100 to third of the best overall weekend finishers.   The same will apply to drivers in the Junior Pro Gas Lite and Heavy classes, with Senior Pro Gas drivers also having a shot at some extra money in the Friday night shootout race.

2016 Gold Cup Season Loaded for all Competitors

CONCORD, NC - The series of discussions, dating back to the September, 2015 season finale in Barnesville, Georgia for the RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series has netted some major results and advancements heading into the 2016 national racing season for the top 4 Cycle Competitors in America.

With the major topic of discussion being a potential increase in fees for the overall betterment of the program moving forward, WKA Officials have devised a plan in which every participating national points class will have something bigger and better to run for in the New Year.

Falling in line with the financial tier system that is currently utilized by the Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup Series with great success, competitors in the Gold Cup Series will also follow the same formula, based on their status of Trophy or Pro Class.

Starting with the Senior Pro Gas Medium, Heavy, and LO206 classes, competitors will pay a Tier 1 fee of $265 per class, which includes their practice fee per class as well. The end result of this fee will net drivers in each of these classes the opportunity to come away with a $500 payday for the weekend per class as the best overall finisher. 2nd place overall will come away with a $250 payday with third place receiving $100. The top 3 in all classes will still receive awards each day as well.

The same formula will also be in place for Junior Pro Gas Lite and Heavy competitors, sporting a $265 Tier 1 Entry Fee, with the top overall finisher receiving $500 to win with $250 for 2nd and $100 for 3rd per class. Competitors in the Junior LO206 Class will fall into the Trophy Class category, which will sport a different entry fee, as they will not be eligible for a purse payout.

Drivers in the Sportsman Pro Gas Heavy class will also run for a $500 to win payout, with $250 for 2nd, and $100 for 3rd. Sportsman Pro Gas Lite and Sportsman LO206 competitors will fall into the category of a Trophy Class.

So in all, 6 classes will be vying for $500 to win paydays, with $250 for 2nd and $100 for 3rd.

Tier 1 Fees for the Trophy classes will be set at $215, which, going by last years Tier 1 system, is no more than a $15 increase per class. However, competitors in Trophy classes also have a shot at $100 to the overall class winner, if their classes entry count exceeds 10 or more entries for the weekend.  The classes that will be listed as Trophy Classes include:

Kid Kart

Sportsman LO206

Sportsman Pro Gas Lite

Junior LO206

Masters LO206

Additionally, the Friday Night Shootout Races for Sportsman and Junior Pro Gas Classes will still take place, with competitors racing for a $200 to win payday for 10 laps of racing, with $100 for 2nd and $50 for 3rd. Trophies will again be available for the Top 5 finishers, with the Entry Fee remaining at $25.

The Senior Pro Gas Money Race will also remain intact with competitors running their unique event with a 75% payback based on class participation. Entry Fee will remain at $50 for the event, not only giving drivers additional track time, but yet another shot at some great purse money before the weekends activities get underway for the points classes.

On top of this, the 2015 Year End Awards Presentation, scheduled to take place at the season opening event April 15-17 at 103rd Street Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Florida, will also mark the return of Champions Rings to all the 2015 National Champions as well.

Sponsors are lining up fast for what is looking to be an awesome season of racing for Americas premier 4 Cycle Sprint Series, including major participation from Briggs and Stratton, as well as Brads Heating and Cooling, Coyote Motorsports, Mikim Motorsports, new sponsors Water Medic, Boon and Sons, Jim’s Marine, Trackside Kart Supply, Inferno Racing Clutches, and MattMillerracing.com. Additionally, Noram Clutches has signed on as an associate sponsor for the season, with longtime Speedway Dirt Series sponsor Bordeaux Dyno Cams making a run into Gold Cup as well. Many other sponsors are being finalized at this very moment, with 2016 shaping up very nicely.

01.20.2016 - Gold Cup Series Finalizes 2016 National Schedule

01.20.2016 - Gold Cup Series Finalizes 2016 National Schedule

gc_logo.2012.png

CONCORD, NC - The final piece to the puzzle for the 2016 National Schedule for the RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series has been put into place, as WKA Officials have announced a return to the Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, South Carolina for the series finale, as well as the Grand National event October 7-9. The completion of the schedule for the 4 Cycle competitors caps off what has already been a great start for the LO206 Junior and Senior classes, following a phenomenal start at Daytona for KartWeek in the first annual Winter Cup Series event, in which 40 Senior competitors took to the track, along with a strong field of 17 Juniors.

While that momentum will continue Feb 5-7 at 103rd Street Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Florida, and March 4-6 at Go Pro Motorplex in Mooresville, North Carolina, the season will just be beginning a month and a half later when the Gold Cuppers hit Jacksonville for the season opener April 15-17. Adding the 2 events at Kershaw, as well as a return for the 4-cycle contingent to the Midwest at New Castle Motorsports Park in Indiana, the run for the Gold Cup crown will be tougher than ever.

In addition to the April Jax event serving as the season opener, the event will also mark a return for the Year End Awards presentation, once held at the track, and at other times during the course of history at other locations in the area. The Awards Presentation will follow the Friday Afternoon Money Events, which will again return to the lineup, headlined by the pair of $200 to win Sportsman and Junior Pro Gas Shootout races, along with the annual Senior Pro Gas Money Race to wind down the Friday on-track action.

As many have seen quite a few months ago, the Class Structure for 2016 has changed a bit, with this year serving as the first year in many without any Methanol classes. In its place will be an all-new Masters Senior Class for LO206 competitors age 40 and older. The class will run a Final 1/Final 2 format each race weekend. A change has also occurred with the Senior Pro Gas Class, as competitors will run a Medium and Heavy class in 2016, again running a Final 1/Final 2 format. All totaled, the daily class count will remain at 11 per day with a mix of LO206 and Pro Gas Classes offered in Sportsman, Junior, and Senior. The Kid Karts will also run the LO206 package again this year.

The Entry Blank for the Jacksonville event is currently under construction, and should be available next week, along with a Banquet Form for competitors wishing to make their reservations for the 2015 Year End Awards Presentation.

With the 2016 schedule now in place, work has already begun on 2017 dates and venues, which will indeed be out much earlier for people to view. Additionally, there are also some exciting new twists to the 2017 schedule that will include even more of a variety of tracks in different locations, thus helping to balance out the definition of National Schedule.

Here is a look at the 2016 RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series National Schedule:

April 15-17: 103rd Street Sports Complex, Jacksonville, Florida

June 24-26: Carolina Motorsports Park, Kershaw, South Carolina

Aug 5-7: New Castle Motorsports Park, New Castle, Indiana

Oct 7-9: Carolina Motorsports Park, Kershaw, South Carolina, Grand National

11.12.2015 - Crouse, Headley, Alder, and Miller lead All Winners in Memorable Gold Cup Season

11.12.2015 - Crouse, Headley, Alder, and Miller lead All Winners in Memorable Gold Cup Season

gc_logo.2012.png

CONCORD, NC - When the 2015 version of the RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup season started back in March at 103rd Street Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Florida, many should have known then that the 4 victories snared by Aiden Baker Crouse would be just a small taste of the top shelf of the podium for the young Sportsman driver. In fact, it served as just one-fourth of the national event and Friday Night Shootout wins the North Carolina driver would attain in the 2015 season, as Crouse totalled16 victories in all for the year. Crouse’s path of multiple wins spread like fire throughout the pit area to other camps, as Senior driver Paul Headley, carrying the banner for the Animal ranks in 2015, notched 9 wins, while Junior Class competitors Jason Alder and Matthew Miller would take 8 and 6 wins respectively, with Alder matching Crouse at the season opener in Jacksonville with 4 wins.

The end result of all the success for Crouse led to titles in 3 classes, including the Razor Chassis Sportsman Pro Gas Lite and Heavy classes, as well as the Miller Welders Sportsman LO206 Class. In the LO206 class, Crouse topped Tanner Carter, a 3- time winner in his own right on the final weekend of racing alone in Barnesville, Georgia.  Riley Kelley, who began to catch steam in Kershaw, South Carolina at the series second stop, and exploded for 4 wins in Camden, Ohio, finished third in the LO206 standings, with Cale Hall and Mark Steube completing the top 5. In the Sportsman Pro Gas Lite class, Kelley, Carter, Hall, and Macon Moore were the top 5 for the season, while Kelley, Moore, Steube, and Andrew Willis, a 2-time winner on opening day, completed the top 5.

While Crouse cleaned house in the Sportsman ranks, the battle between Jason Alder and Matt Miller kept fans on their toes. After Alder swept the Van K Wheels Junior Pro Gas Lite, as well as the Brads Heating and Cooling Junior Pro Gas Animal classes at Jacksonville, victories became a little tougher to come by with David Kalb Jr ripping off 3 wins in Kershaw, including the Friday night shootout win, while Miller and Hunter Johnson claimed the other wins that weekend. 2 more wins by Johnson in the season finale, coupled with wins by Alex Vrabel and Cody Hall kept things a little tighter than Alder wanted. But in the end, the Maryland driver took the Junior Pro Gas Lite title over Miller, with Joshua Stark, another most consistent finisher this year, taking third in the standings, while Hall and Brian Van Cleve completed the top 5.

Miller claimed the Junior Pro Gas Heavy title, as well as that of the Thor Oil Junior LO206 class, racking up six wins, and the Gas title over Vrabel, with Alder, Stark, and Jimmy Cole Jackson completing the top 5.

In the LO206 category, Miller topped Hall, Jackson, Alder, and Talia Moffett, one of the many up and coming top females in 4 Cycle Sprint competition.

The battle in the Tyler Sandmeyer LO206 Kid Kart Class turned out to be most competitive, despite Brently Millers sweep of the action in race 1 at Jacksonville. Owen Lloyd turned 2 runnerup finishes at his home track in Race #1 into a victory at Kershaw, while Bryce Sanders also began to gain some momentum with the other Kershaw win. But then the Jax Walker Show came to town, with the defending champion gaining 3 wins in the next 2 stops in Camden, Ohio, as well as Barnesville, Georgia. And despite issues early on the final day of competition, Walker was able to snare yet another title, as Peyton Bridges triumphed in the series finale, giving the young driver a huge lift going into next year, making it 5 national winners in 8 races for 2015. With the 3 wins, Walker claimed the title over Lloyd, with a very consistent Blake Boon, as well as Caleb Gafrarar, who also runs Kids Karts in the Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup Series, and 2 time winner Brently Miller completing the top 5.

While it would be hard for the Senior contingent of the Gold Cup Series to top the exploits of the Junior ranks, the return of strong fields in both the Briggs and Stratton Racing Senior LO206 class, as well as the Coyote Motorsports Senior Pro Gas Series, kept the fans on the fence.

For the LO206 Class, 6 winners in 8 races made for some great competition, with Eric Fagan and Tyler Smith the only 2 time winners. Other winners included Evan Cowen, Gary Lawson, Ben Wagenhals, and Dustin Demattia. But in the end, consistency won out, as Austin Queen laid claim to the championship over Wagenhals, with Haley Kummer, another top female runner placing third in the final standings, while Demattia and Fagan completed the top 5.

For Three Quarters of the season, it appeared the Coyote Motorsports Senior Pro Gas Animal crown would travel back to Maryland, with 4 victories by Jacob Heavlow, 1 by his brother Jimmy, and another by fellow Marylander Chris Wells. But again, consistency, coupled with a sweep of the season ending events in Georgia led to Sean Meier taking the top honor in 2015. Jacob Heavlow ended up a solid second with Zachary Linsell, Tyler Smith, and Dustin Demattia completing the top 5.

While the stats didn’t show a title for Zachary Linsell on the national points side, Linsell more than made up for it on Friday night, taking 3 of the 4 Senior Shootout races in 2015, a pretty tough feat, considering the level of competition each race for that class. The only win that eluded Linsell was Camden, Ohio where Jacob Heavlow added to his impressive 2015 win total. Linsell also did quite a bit of racing on the WKA VEGA/TSRacing National Road Race Series this past year as well, spreading him pretty thin.

2015 marked a bittersweet season for Paul Headley. With the ever-changing landscape of karting, the run for the Animal Methanol classes came to an end this year, as the LO206 and Pro Gas Classes enjoy their time in the spotlight.

Headley reeled off an impressive 9 wins between the Animal Medium and Animal Heavy Mix classes, fending off the efforts most weekends of Jim Lipari, Cayla Chapman, and Josh Stiefel.  Taking 3 of 4 wins at Jacksonville, Headley also scored wins at every other track on the tour this season, thus placing his name in the record books as the last Animal Methanol winner in the Gold Cup, as well as 2 titles. Headley topped Lipari, Chapman, Stevie Roberts, and Jacob Heavlow in Animal Medium, while besting Stiefel, Case Hall, Joey Miller, and Connor Tebbe in the Animal Heavy Mix class.

And with that, the 2015 season for the RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series is in the books. Our thanks to Art and Rod Verliengre of RLV for their wonderful title sponsorship.

Special thanks to Kyle Luttrell and Ionic Edge Chassis for their sponsorship of the Jacksonville event, Rob Smith and Kart City Performance for sponsoring the June Kershaw nationals, Jerry Cole and Michigan Kart Supply for the top billing of the Camden event, and to Dave and Sue Koehler of GT Machine for once again sponsoring the Grand National event in Barnesville, Georgia.

Special thanks also to the entire North Florida Kart Club, David Watkins and the crew at Carolina Motorsports Park, Gary and Elaine Gregg at G and J Kartway in Camden, Ohio, and Bob Barthelemy and the entire GSKA crew at Lamar County Speedway in Barnesville, Georgia for their hospitality.

Thanks to Tyler Sandmeyer Racing, Razor Chassis, Coyote Motorsports, Van K Wheels, Miller Welders, Thor Oil, Briggs and Stratton Racing, and Brads Heating and Cooling for their Class Sponsorships this season. Thanks to Steve Baker of Baker Racing Engines for the Contingency Program for all the competitors this season, and to Brad Farmer of Brads Heating and Cooling for extending his sponsorship dollars out and funding the Friday Night Shootout Races for the Sportsman and Junior Pro Gas drivers, making it a great start to the weekend.

And congrats once again to Tommy Triplett and Bandit Racing Chassis for winning one of the tightest battle in Manufacturers Championship competition, edging Razor Chassis by 4 wins 26-22, for the winningest chassis in the Gold Cup this season. The balance of the standings were:

Arrow: 21

Coyote: 8

MGM: 6

Ionic Edge: 5

FA:1

Tommy, along with the rest of the champions, top ten drivers, and many other special recipients of awards will be honored for their 2015 efforts at the annual awards presentation, which is currently being finalized at this moment.

While the awards and merchandise package is currently being assembled, one of the many special offers comes from Kyle Luttrell and Ionic Edge Chassis, as any and all class champions, no matter what chassis they were on this season, will receive a $500 certificate towards a new Ionic Edge Chassis.

As part of the Contingency program this past season, Ionic Edge offered a $250 certificate for the purchase of a new Ionic Edge Chassis, or $75 for the race winners this year, as well as a $150 certificate to the 2nd place finisher, or $50, provided they displayed 3 sponsor stickers on their karts this year.

Plans for the 2016 season are shaping up nicely, with the first 2 events slated for April and June respectively at 103rd Street Sports Complex in Florida and Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, South Carolina. The third date is getting the finishing touches placed on it, with the fourth and final venue and date right behind it. Announcements on the complete 2016 Schedule will be out soon.

On behalf of the World Karting Association, our sincerest thanks to everyone for an incredibly enjoyable and successful season. We wish you all the safest and happiest of holiday seasons!!!!

10.17.2016 - 2016 Gold Cup Class Structure, Early Race Dates Released

gc_logo.2012.png

CONCORD, NC - With the dust just settling a few weeks on the GT Machine Grand Nationals at Lamar County Speedway in Barnesville, Georgia, WKA Officials have already finalized the Class Structure for the 2016 season for the RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series, as well as revealing the first half of the 2016 national schedule. As was the case in 2015, the series will maintain the integrity of 11 national classes per day, making for a comfortable schedule for the 2 days of national competition.

Returning in 2016 will be the LO 206 Kid Karts, Sportsman LO 206, Sportsman Pro Gas Animal Lite and Heavy, LO 206 Junior, Junior Pro Gas Lite and Heavy, and the vastly growing LO 206 Heavy class for Senior class drivers.

The Senior Pro Gas class will also be returning next year. However, instead of running the 1 class each day, the class will now be broke out into a Medium and Heavy class, with the minimum Medium weight being 360lbs. Heavy drivers will need to meet a 375lb minimum.

New to the series this year will be the creation of a Masters Senior LO 206 Class, featuring drivers 40 and older.

All classes mentioned will run their respective classes both days in search of 1 champion for the 2016 season in each class.

Gone in 2016 are the Animal Medium and Animal Heavy Mix classes, the last 2 methanol classes in the Gold Cup Program.

Competitors in 2016 will have their first shot at running for a national title April 15-17 as the series returns for a very familiar and popular stop at 103rd Street Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Florida, with stop #2 coming the weekend of June 24-26 at Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, South Carolina. The remaining two venues, scheduled to be tentatively run in August and September will be finalized shortly. The Jacksonville event has been moved to March out of respect to many LO206 Junior and Senior drivers who will be participating in the first ever, and highly anticipated Winter Cup Program, with dates set at Daytona in December, Jacksonville in February, and Go Pro Motorplex in Mooresville, North Carolina in March. While always trying to accommodate the competitors, giving ample time between events, it was felt best to place the April Jacksonville Gold Cup event where it is, due to the last Winter Cup event just being a month prior in early March at Go Pro.

Now while that same philosophy was not entirely used this past year between events 2 and 3 for the Gold Cup, the second date in 2016 not only comes a few weeks later in June, which helps the end of school year issues, it also will avoid the 4th of July weekend, allowing families a chance to enjoy the holiday away from the track.

A $5 increase on Entry Fees was also approved by the Board of Trustees. The money from this increase will go towards classes in the 2016 Gold Cup season that have 10 or more entries, with the overall successor of that weekends class receiving $100.

While there will be additional elements of the Gold Cup season still to come, anyone wishing to jump on board as a class or race sponsor can contact Marie Borsuk at the WKA Office at (704) 455-1606, ext 111.

In the coming days, additional information regarding the 1st annual Winter Cup will also be revealed.

To view the respective 2016 schedule, class structure, as well as the Reserved Number Form, go to the Gold Cup Series on the main page, and scroll down to click on your respective link.

09.29.2015 - Carter Tans Some Hides in Barnesville Gold Cup Grand National

09.29.2015 - Carter Tans Some Hides in Barnesville Gold Cup Grand National

gc_logo.2012.png

IMG_0831 CONCORD, NC - For the better part of the season, Tanner Carter has been one of the most consistent competitors on the RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series, posting several top 3 finishes in Sportsman competition. Those results for Carter have kept him in the hunt for a few of the class titles. As the Series made it’s way back to the historical Lamar County Speedway in Barnesville, Georgia, Carter decided it was time to climb the result ladder, thus netting 3 Eagles in the GT Machine Grand Nationals.

IMG_0871 IMG_0884    IMG_1207 For Carter, success began on Saturday in the Razor Chassis Sportsman Pro Gas Lite main event. As competitors battled rainy, drizzly conditions all weekend long, Carter waged some of the best battles of the year with class points leader and multi time winner Aiden Baker Crouse. Facing the tightest track conditions of the year on the challenging Lamar County course, Carter edged out Crouse, the Mikim Motorsports top qualifier, for his first of 3 wins on the weekend, with Cale Hall, Landen Lewis, and Riley Kelley completing the top five.

Success continued for Carter in the Miller Welders Sportsman LO 206 Class. While chasing Crouse and Kelley in the standings, Carter turned the tables, securing win #2 for the day over Cale Hall, Mikim Motorsports Fast Timer Crouse, Max Porter, and Kelley.

IMG_1334IMG_0997

Carter polished off the weekend with a sweep in the Razor Chassis Sportsman Pro Gas Lite class. After winning the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time award, Carter fended off Kelley, Hall, Crouse, and Lewis for the top honors.

While the weekend was challenging for all, it was most challenging for the Tyler Sandmeyer Kid Karts. With the current rule in place, disallowing Kid Karts in the Gold Cup Series to run in wet weather conditions, the efforts by WKA Officials to find the window of opportunity presented itself, allowing Day #1 of the title run to be decided on the track. As a result, defending series champion Jax Walker laid claim to the top spot on Saturday, edging out Owen Lloyd, his closest competitor in the standings, with just 30 points separating the 2 drivers in the overall standings coming into the event. Walker also laid claim to the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time award. Chasing the duo across the stripe were Blake Boon, Peyton Bridges, and Caleb Gafrarar.IMG_0906

Sean Meier also made the most of his weekend, scoring a victory Saturday in the Coyote Motorsports Senior Pro Gas Class. Entering the weekend, Meier sat just 15 points behind series leader Jacob Heavlow. With just a couple more shots at the title, Meier turned back some heavyweights, topping Zach Linsell, Mikim Motorsports Fast Timer Eric Fagan, Dustin Demattia, and Tyler Smith. Rounding out the top ten were Aren Smith, Matthew Lewis, Jacob Heavlow, Jason Zobkiw, and Patrick O’Neal.

Hunter Johnson also turned some heads over the weekend with very strong outings in the Junior competition. Johnson scored the first of his 2 wins over the weekend Saturday, taking the Van K Wheels Junior Pro Gas Lite main, turning back Jason Alder, the number 2 driver in points, with Mikim Motorsports Fast Time winner Cody Hall coming home in third, followed by Alex Vrabel and Joshua Stark. Completing the top ten were Matt Tortorell, series points leader Matthew Miller, Simon Sikes, Jimmy Cole Jackson, and Brian Van Cleve.

The weekend had its sad moments as well, as the checkered flag on the Animal Medium Class also signified the end of an era, with the discontinuation of the methanol class for 2016. That just inspired points leader Paul Headley to continue his mastery of the class, as Headley swept the weekends action. On Saturday, Jim Lipari, the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time winner, chased Headley to the line, while Stevie Roberts and Dalton Miller made up the top 3 on Day #2, with Headley taking the Mikim Motorsports Fast time award.

With a top 5 under his belt earlier, Mikim Motorsports Fast Time winner Cody Hall backed up his solid qualifying performance, garnering the Thor Oil Junior LO 206 class. Coming into the event in a virtual deadlock with Matthew Miller for the title, Hall made the first effort to break the tie. Miller was not far behind in second, with Jimmy Cole Jackson, Talia Moffet, and Jason Alder completing the top 5.

Floridian Tyler Smith made just his second visit into the Briggs and Stratton Racing LO 206 Class a memorable one, sweeping the weekends action against some of the best Senior drivers in the country. Smith backed up his Mikim Motorsports Fast Time run with a win on Day 1, topping Dustin Demattia, Joseph Skaggs, Brad Bacon, and Matthew Mayes. Smith roared right back to life on Day 2, leaving the competition in his wake, with Skaggs, Demattia, Austin Queen, and Bob Barthelemy making up the top 5. Completing the top ten were Brandon Murzynski, Carter Schlenke, Jason Zobkiw, Ben Wagenhals, and Matthew Mayes.

In the “You Can Only Keep Him Down But So Long” Category, Aiden Baker Crouse continued his winning ways, racking up an impressive total of national event wins this season, 3 of which happened at Barnesville. Crouse, the leader in the Baker Racing Engines Sportsman Pro Gas Animal Heavy class, secured the first win on the weekend Saturday, taking the Heavy class, after winning the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time award. Landen Lewis had a great showing on the weekend, taking yet another top 5 run in second, with Kelly Puckett, Mark Steube, and Riley Kelley completing the top 5. Crouse polished off the class on Sunday, topping Mikim Motorsports Fast Timer Tanner Carter, with Kelley, Macon Moore, and Puckett taking down the top five.

Crouse padded his points lead over Kelley in the Miller Welders Sportsman LO 206 class, securing his third win on the weekend, with Cale Hall, Max Porter, Elijah Skaggs, and Carter completing the top 5.

The Power Plus Lubricants Animal Heavy Mix Class was also making their final appearance in Gold Cup competition for a while, as this will also be a class not returning in 2016. On Day 1, Joey Miller worked the field over for his lone win of the weekend, topping Paul Headley, Aren Smith, Case Hall, and Matthew Lewis. On Day 2, Headley joined the 3 win club for the weekend, taking down the class, with Lewis, Miller, Smith, and Hall completing the top 5.

Hunter Johnson ended the first days action with his second win of the weekend, this time in the Brad’s Heating and Cooling Junior Pro Gas Heavy main, taking the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time honor, as well as the win. Jimmy Cole Jackson had one of his best weekends of the season, claiming second, with Cody Hall, Alex Vrabel, and Matt Miller completing the top 5. Rounding out the top ten were Jason Alder, Joshua Stark, Brian Van Cleve, Simon Sikes, and Matthew Tortorell.

Sundays wet weather challenge for the Kid Karts continued. However, track drying efforts by the balance of the competitors finally afforded the Tyler Sandmeyer sponsored class the chance to decide the title on the track. When all was said and done, Peyton Bridges stood atop the podium for victory #1 on the weekend. Following Bridges were Brentley Miller, Caleb Gafrarar, Blake Boon, and Walker Porter, with Owen Lloyd, and Bryce Sanders rounding out the field. Points leader Jax Walker incurred mechanical issues early, and was relegated to watching from the infield.

Sean Meier enjoyed the sweep of the weekend in the Coyote Motorsports Senior Pro Gas class, topping Zach Linsell, Eric Fagan, Patrick O’Neal, and Dustin Demattia, with Matthew Lewis, Aren Smith, Tyler Smith, Dylan Zobkiw, and Jacob Connor completing the top ten.

In Sundays Van K Wheels Junior Pro Gas Lite main, Jason Alder continued his efforts to close the 40 point gap between himself and points leader Matt Miller. Alder claimed the win with Hunter Johnson coming home second. Jimmy Cole Jackson, Alex Vrabel, and Miller rounded out the top five, with Matt Tortorell, Joshua Stark, Cody Hall, Brian Van Cleve, and Talia Moffet making up the top 10.

The gap between Matt Miller and Cody Hall continued tight Sunday. After Hall tried to break the points tie Saturday with a win, Millers second place run, combined with a return to victory lane Sunday helped take the battle right down to the wire. Chasing Miller on Sunday was Jimmy Cole Jackson, Cody Hall, Jason Alder, and Talia Moffet.

Alex Vrabel was finally able to check in for a weekend win, taking the Brad’s Heating and Cooling Junior Pro Gas Heavy main Sunday afternoon. And for yet another time, Jimmy Cole Jackson, in the hunt for a win all weekend long, came home second. Completing the top five were Hunter Johnson, Simon Sikes, and Talia Moffett.

The persistent weekend drizzle also played havoc with the traditional Friday Evening Money races, forcing officials to move the show to Saturday afternoon. However, as always, drivers did not disappoint, as well as sponsors. With Brad’s Heating and Cooling already generously sponsoring the purses for both Sportsman and Junior Pro Gas Shootouts, Andy Jones added another $100 to each class, giving the winner a $300 payday for 10 laps of competition in both classes. Aiden Baker Crouse was the first in line to say Thank You, taking the Sportsman Shootout, topping Tanner Carter, Cale Hall, Landen Lewis, ad Riley Kelley.

In the Junior Pro Gas Shootout, Jason Alder claimed the $300 top prize, edging Matthew Miller, Cody Hall, Hunter Johnson, and Jimmy Cole Jackson.

2nd place in both races received $100 with third place getting $50, while the top five also received trophies.

And for the third time in 4 races this year, Zach Linsell claimed the top honors in the Senior Pro Gas Money Race. Linsell, winner of the event at Jacksonville, Florida, and Kershaw, South Carolina, bested Eric Fagan, Dustin Demattia, Sean Meier, and Dylan Zobkiw.

With a few WKA Divisionals left to wrap up, the final tally for points for all classes will be coming soon.

While the points are still left to be sorted out, a major battle for the Manufacturers Championship was indeed decided, with Bandit Racing Chassis returning to the top of the podium. Trailing Arrow Chassis by just 1 win coming into the weekend, Bandit roared to life for 5 wins on the weekend, giving them 26 for the season. Razor Chassis, another past recipient of the award, also had a strong finish, scoring 22 wins, with Arrow finishing up at 21. Congratulations to Tommy Triplett and the folks at Bandit for their success this year, as well as Razor and Arrow, for making this one of the tightest Chassis battles in recent history.

While the final event of the season ended with rain and drizzle, WKA would like to extend its sincerest thanks to Bob Barthelemy and the Georgia Sprint Kart Association for their wonderful hospitality and hard work. For the season, a great deal of thanks to the North Florida Kart Club, David Watkins and the staff at Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, South Carolina, and to Gary and Elaine Gregg and the staff at G and J Kartway in Camden, Ohio for making this a wonderful season for the Gold Cup Families.

Special thanks out to Art and Rod Verliengre from RLV Tuned Exhaust Products for the title sponsorship, Kyle Luttrell of Ionic Edge Chassis, Rob Smith of Kart City Performance, Jerry Cole of Michigan Kart Supply, and Dave and Sue Koehler of GT Machine for their event sponsorships, and to Brad Farmer of Brad’s Heating and Cooling for their sponsorship of the Shootout races.

Finally, thank you to all the competitors, their parents, grandparents, and all track staff for their tireless efforts in making the 2015 edition of the RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series a great success.

For 2016, secured dates include:

April 15-17: 103rd Street Sports Complex, Jacksonville, Florida
June 24-26: Carolina Motorsports Park, Kershaw, South Carolina

09.22.2015 - Hall/ Miller Deadlock just 1 of many great battles coming to Barnesville

09.22.2015 - Hall/ Miller Deadlock just 1 of many great battles coming to Barnesville

gc_logo.2012.png

CONCORD, NC - It should come as no surprise that the majority of battles for the top crown in the RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series will come right down to the wire this weekend in the GT Machine Grand Nationals at Lamar County Speedway in Barnesville, Georgia. Additionally, the battle for chassis supremacy will also be decided on the final day of the last weekend of racing amongst the top 4 Cycle competitors in the country, as Arrow holds a slim 1 victory edge over Bandit in the battle for the coveted Manufacturers Championship Trophy, one that carries bragging rights for a year.

In class competition, it gets no tighter than in the Thor Oil Junior LO 206 class, where Cody Hall and Matthew Miller are deadlocked for the title run, following Millers sweep of the class back in July in Camden, Ohio. Miller is one of the many competitors the Bandit crowd is hoping to carry the flag this weekend, while Hall, one of the leading winners on the Razor Chassis, another past Manufacturers Champion, looks to take the title, thus also hoping to bring Razor a little closer to another title, as the Georgia manufacturer currently sits 3rd in the chassis standings, 10 wins out of first place.

Another tight battle falls in the Briggs & Stratton Racing Senior LO 206 class where Eric Fagan is up by just 14 tallies over Austin Queen in what has been another great battle this season. With both drivers having a less than successful race in Ohio, the battle is on for the top spot this weekend. Haley Kummer currently sits third in the standings after having a great season, with Michael Clark and Ben Wagenhals completing the top 5.

The nail biting will continue in the Coyote Motorsports Senior Pro Gas Animal class where Jacob Heavlow holds a slim 15-point edge over Sean Meier for the title. Heavlow swept the Camden weekend action for the class, but has to pretty much duplicate that effort if he wants to keep Meier in his rearview mirror. Dustin Demattia is currently third in the standings, while a tight battle for fourth between Mike Greiner and Jimmy Heavlow exists, with Greiner up by just 6 tallies.

Paul Headley looks for a weekend title sweep this weekend in both the Animal Medium and Animal Heavy Mix classes. Headley currently holds a 15-point lead over Jim Lipari in the Animal Medium class, with Cayla Chapman currently in third, while Josh Stiefel and Case Hall are chasing Headley in the Animal Heavy Mix category.

The Tyler Sandmeyer Kid Kart class features another tight battle with Jax Walker looking to add another title. But he’ll have to fend off the efforts of Owen Lloyd, who trails Walker by just 30 tallies. Blake Boon, Caleb Gafrarar, and Asher Johnson are also dueling within the top 5 of the standings.

Matthew Millers chief rival is more than 1 driver this weekend. In addition to trying to break the tie between himself and Cody Hall in the Junior LO 206 class, Miller also has Jason Alder in his tire tracks in the Van K Wheels Junior Pro Gas Lite division, currently holding a 40-point advantage with Joshua Stark, Brian Van Cleve, and Cody Hall the top 5.

Miller can breathe a little easier in the Brads Heating and Cooling Junior Pro Gas Heavy Class, as he holds a 155 point lead over Joshua Stark, with Alex Vrabel, Alder, and Hall the top 5.

The success for Arrow Chassis has hinged primarily on the success of Aiden Baker Crouse. While Crouse hasn’t swept the seasons victories, he has indeed been the force to be reckoned with in the Razor Chassis Sportsman Pro Gas Lite and Baker Racing Chassis Sportsman Pro Gas Heavy classes, holding a 120 point edge in Lite over Riley Kelley, with Tanner Carter, Cale Hall, and Macon Moore making up the top 5. In the Heavy class, Crouse holds a commanding 277-point edge.

Crouse also leads the Miller Welders Sportsman LO 206 class by 70 points over Kelley, with Carter, Cale Hall, and Mark Steube completing the top 5. While on paper it would appear a runaway for Crouse, Riley Kelley has come on strong late in the season, posting a 4-win weekend at Camden, Ohio, while Tanner Carter has been a model of consistency all season long.

No matter what, the finale this weekend is expected to be a great one indeed. This weekend will also serve as the final weekend for drivers to grab some of the thousands of dollars remaining in contingencies by virtue of their top 3 finishes. Contingencies are still available through Ionic Edge Chassis, Margay Racing, Comet Kart Sales/Eagle Chassis, Razor Chassis, MKP Top Kart USA/Victory Chassis, K1 Speed/CRG Chassis, Moon Power, Radical Racing Engines, Dover Power, Kart City Performance, Schu Power Racing Engines, Baker Racing Engines, Mikim Motorsports, Competition Karting Inc, Michigan Kart Supply, Franklin Motorsports, Thor Racing Lubricants, Jammer Clutches, Bully Clutch, R2C Air Filters, SMC Vortex Clutches, and Streeter Super Stands.

While the bulk of these contingencies involve 1st place, Streeter Super Stands contingency will take care of the Top 3, with Franklin Motorsports issuing certs to the third place finishers. It is important to note that drivers need to have their contingency stickers on their karts to properly declare for the respective contingencies they want to be a part of.

09.21.2015 - Clarification regarding Gold Cup Kid Kart Class

09.21.2015 - Clarification regarding Gold Cup Kid Kart Class

gc_logo.2012.png

CONCORD, NC - For parents of competitors running the Kid Kart class this weekend in the GT Machine Grand Nationals at Lamar County Speedway in Barnesville, Georgia, they are reminded that this class does NOT run in the event of rain conditions, as per rule #263.1 of the 2015 WKA National Tech Manual. Instead, competitors are issued Rain Points and draw for their Top 5 Awards. The question arose this week, given the long range forecast, and the possibility of rain at some point in the weekend. At present, the Barnesville area forecast is calling for the chance of precipitation on Friday, with cloudy skies slated for Saturday and Sunday. As is the case with weather, it changes hourly.

That being said, it is recommended competitors that are entered in this weekends event, maintain their plans to participate in the season finale, as WKA will exhaust every effort within the confines of the rule book to ensure the 2015 championships will be earned on the track.

CONCORD, NC - As competitors prepare for the season ending GT Machine Grand Nationals for the RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series September 25-27 at Lamar County Speedway in Barnesville, Georgia, they will find some added company in the form of Yamaha's, as the local Barnesville area is home to several 2 cycle drives, looking for a chance to participate in the weekends final event for the 4 Cycle contingent. Competitors in that class will participate in the all day practice session on Friday, running their qualifying, heat. and main event on Saturday. The top 3 in the class will receive plaques for their efforts. The class will be placed in the 12th position of the running order for both Friday and Saturday.

Competitors in that class will follow the WKA Manufacturers Cup rules for the Yamaha Senior class. Entry and Practice Fees for the Local Option class have been updated on the entry blank, and are now posted.

Heavlow, Kelley x 4 EACH In Camden Gold Cup

Heavlow, Kelley x 4 EACH In Camden Gold Cup

gc_logo.2012.png

CONCORD, NC - There is a recurring theme in the RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series this year. When a driver is on a roll at a specific event, there is no stopping them. And it hasn’t always been the same dominant face this year. Such was the case at the Michigan Kart Supply Nationals at G and J Kartway in Camden, Ohio, stop #3 for the 4 race series.

camdenCONCORD, NC - There is a recurring theme in the RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series this year. When a driver is on a roll at a specific event, there is no stopping them. And it hasn’t always been the same dominant face this year. Such was the case at the Michigan Kart Supply Nationals at G and J Kartway in Camden, Ohio, stop #3 for the 4 race series.

While Jacob Heavlow and Riley Kelley have scored national event wins this season, it wasn’t until the Camden stop where both put together large win streaks. For Heavlow, wins came in the Senior Pro Gas Money race, both of the Coyote Motorsports Senior Pro Gas Points races, and the Animal Medium main as well. For Kelley, his streak of 4 came in the Miller Welders Sportsman LO206, as well as the Razor Chassis Sportsman Pro Gas Lite, and the Baker Racing Engines Sportsman Pro Gas Heavy classes.jacobHeavlow

With late Friday afternoon rains halting practice for the day, the inclement weather also forced the Sportsman and Junior Pro Gas Money races, as well as the Senior Pro Gas Money race to Saturday evening, making for a full day of on track activity Saturday.

Defending champion Jax Walker came to life at Camden, also joining the multiple wins club, taking top honors in the Tyler Sandmeyer Kid Kart class both Saturday and Sunday.  On Saturday, Walker had to outhustle Mikim Motorsports Fast Time Award winner Blake Boone to take the win, as Kershaw winner Owen Lloyd chased the pair home in third. Walker bettered his qualifying run on Sunday, taking the pole, and once again fending off the efforts of Boone and Lloyd for his second win of the weekend. Wyatt Kessinger came home fourth on Sunday.

After dominating the top shelf of the podium in Kershaw, South Carolina in June, Aiden Baker Crouse continued his winning ways, securing the win in the Razor Chassis Sportsman Pro Gas Lite main event, the first of HIS 2 wins on the weekend. After taking the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time Award, Crouse bested Cale Hall for the top honors, while Riley Kelley chased the pair across the stripe for the win.

Once again, the Coyote Motorsports Senior Pro Gas class was packed with entries. And this also would serve as the starting point for Jacob Heavlows success as the Maryland driver staved off Dustin Demattia for his 1st of 4 wins for the weekend. Chasing the duo across the stripe were Sean Meier, Sarah Luoma, and Mike Greiner, as Gary Lawson, a longtime competitor on the series, returned to Camden and grabbed the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time award.

dustinWhile 4 wins in a weekend was fantastic for some, Matt Miller wasn’t far behind in the win total category, notching 3 wins himself for the weekend. Starting with the Van K Wheels Junior Pro Gas Lite class, Miller had another quality field of competitors to fend off, taking the top honors over Jason Alder, with Joshua Stark, Cody Hall, and Brian Van Cleve chasing the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time winner across the stripe. Later in the day, Miller came back with an LO206 motor strapped on the kart, scored the Mikim Motorsports Fast time honors, then proceeded to top Jimmy Cole Jackson, Cody Hall, Talia Moffet, and Alex Vrabel in the Thor Oil sponsored class. Part of Millers wins would include a weekend sweep of the class as the Maryland driver returned Sunday to take the win, again over Jackson, with Jason Alder, Hall, and Vrabel completing the top 5.

With Matt Miller and Riley Kelley prepping for their next track time in the pits, Heavlow took back to the track to secure what would be the second win of the weekend, this time in the Animal Medium class. Heavlow topped Paul Headley, Jim Lipari, Justin Funkhouser, and Cayla Chapman, as well as securing the Mikim Motorsports fast time honors.

With a Sportsman Pro Gas Lite win already in his pocket, Aiden Baker Crouse returned to the track, taking the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time award in the Miller Welders Sportsman LO206 class. However, Riley Kelley was ready to click off his string of wins for the weekend, thus grabbing the lead, and holding on for the win over Crouse, with Tanner Carter rolling home third.

Time off from the Gold Cup Series hasn’t slowed Gary Lawson down one bit, as the Mentor, Ohio driver returned to Camden, and laid claim to the Briggs and Stratton Racing LO206 Senior class victory on Saturday. Fresh off a second place run earlier in the day in Senior Pro Gas, Dustin Demattia roared home for a second place run, with Mikim Motorsports Fast Time winner Eric Fagan, Chris Osgood, and Ben Wagenhals completing the top 5.

Demattia was finally able to break the second place streak on Sunday, flip flopping the finishing order, and taking the LO 206 win over Lawson, with Tyler Smith, Richie Kuhn, and Austin Queen completing the top 5.

In the Baker Racing Engines Sportsman Pro Gas Heavy class, Aiden Baker Crouse returned to the podium to claim his second win of the weekend, edging Riley Kelley for the top honors.

Following a solid second place in the Animal Medium class earlier in the day, Paul Headley found his familiar spot back up front, taking the Power Plus Lubricants Animal Heavy Mix main event. Headley was able to beat out Josh Stiefel for the honors, with Tim Stiefel, Case Hall, and Jacob Connor completing the top 5.

In the midst of so many multiple winners, Alex Vrabel was able to sneak in and slow down the win streak of Matt Miller in winning the Brads Heating and Cooling Junior Pro Gas Heavy main event. Miller was hot on Vrabels heels in second, with Brian Van Cleve, Mikim Motorsports Fast Time winner Jason Alder, and David Kalb completing the top 5.rileyKelly

With the bulk of points races in the books for Saturday, it was time to focus on the rescheduled Money Races, sponsored by Brads Heating and Cooling. In the 10 lap Sportsman Pro Gas Shootout, Cale Hall laid claim to the $200 event win, topping Riley Kelley and Aiden Baker Crouse. For his second place effort, Kelley received $100, with Crouse earning a cool $50.

In Junior Pro Gas Shootout competition, the Hall family tradition continued as Cale’s older brother Cody topped Matt Miller for the $200, 10 lap win, while Brian Van Cleve streaked across the line in third.

With Zach Linsell not in attendance, the 2 race Senior Pro Gas Money race win streak also came to a conclusion as Jacob Heavlow scored his third event win of the weekend, besting Sean Meier, Eric Fagan, Scott Klemen, and Sarah Luoma.

Sundays Razor Chassis Sportsman Pro Gas Lite Main found Riley Kelley back in the win column again, topping Mikim Motorsports Fast Time winner Aiden Baker Crouse and Tanner Carter. Kelley would win the bulk of his races on Sunday, roaring back for the top honors in the Baker Racing Engines Sportsman Pro Gas Heavy Class, again taking the win over Crouse. Kelley polished off the day in the Miller Welders Sportsman LO206 Class, with Crouse haunting him the entire way, while Tanner Carter again took third.

Heavlow returned to the winners circle Sunday, stopping older brother Jimmy in the Coyote Motorports Senior Pro Gas Class. Gary Lawson returned on Sunday as well, taking third, with Eric Fagan and Josh Stiefel completing the top 5. Lawson was the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time winner.

After many efforts on Saturday, the fruits of labor paid off for Jason Alder as he laid claim to the Van K Wheels Junior Pro Gas Lite victory. After taking the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time honors, Alder proceeded to show the field his rear bumper in taking his lone win of the weekend.  Cody Hall came home second followed by Brian Van Cleve, Matt Miller, and Austin Williamson.

In Animal Medium, Paul Headley improved one spot from the day before, storming out of the gate for the Fast Time honors, then taking his second national win of the weekend. Headly edged out Justin Funkhouser and Jim Lipari.

After scoring the LO206 win on Saturday, Gary Lawson came back to take the top honors in the Power Plus Lubricants Animal Heavy Mix class, topping Saturday winner Paul Headley, with Josh Stiefel, Sarah Luoma, and Jacob Connor completing the top 5.

The final event of the weekend found Cody Hall triumphing in the Brads Heating and Cooling Junior Pro Gas Heavy main, making it two wins for the weekend for Hall after taking the Junior Pro Gas Shootout Saturday night. Hall bested Brian Van Cleve, Matt Miller, Joshua Stark, and Jason Alder for the top honors.

Following two back-to-back national events, just 1 month apart, the series gets a major breather, not running the GT Machine Grand Nationals until September 25-28 at Lamar County Speedway in Barnesville, Georgia.

CONCORD, NC - Less than 1 month removed from the heat of Kershaw, South Carolina in the Kart City Performance Nationals, The RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series hits the track for stop #3 of the season this weekend in Camden, Ohio at G and J Kartway for the Michigan Kart Supply Nationals.

While Mother Nature may give competitors in the rolling corn fields of Ohio a little better break, temperature wise, the hotly contested battles for national titles will continue at the home of the Ohio Valley Karters Association.

Headlining the battle is the continued dogfight for the top spot in the Coyote Motorsports Senior Pro Gas Animal class, one of the largest classes of the year. Coming into the event. Corey Towles sports a slim 5 point advantage over Sean Meier, with Zach Linsell, Matt Mayes, and Tyler Smith not far behind. Towles grabbed a runnerup spot and a 4th in the 2 days of competition at Kershaw, and looks to pad that points lead this weekend.

While this is clearly the closest battle in the national points, of all classes, 1 weekend slip can tighten things up in any class, as the Camden event serves as the final tune-up before the Grand Nationals in Barnesville, Georgia in September.

Austin Queen brings the points lead in the Briggs and Stratton LO 206 Heavy class, another well attended group in 2015. Queen’s consistency has netted him an 80 point lead over his next closest challenger in Eric Fagan, a winner at Kershaw. Also expected to battle are Haley Kummer, Patrick O’Neal, Michael Clark, and Evan Cowen.

Jim Lipari and Paul Headley bring points leads to Camden as well in their respective classes, Animal Medium, and the Power Plus Lubricants Animal Heavy Mix classes. Cayla Chapman and Josh Stiefel have been strong contenders in these respective classes this year, and figure to give the points leaders a run for the money.

Owen Lloyd, a winner on Day 1 at Kershaw in the Tyler Sandmeyer LO206 Kid Kart class, brings a 60 point lead in the standings to Camden over defending series champion Jax Walker.

Meanwhile, Sportsman drivers have had to learn their ABC’s all over again, not by choice though, as Aiden Baker Crouse has been lighting things up in the Razor Chassis Sportsman Pro Gas Animal Light, Baker Racing Engines Sportsman Pro Gas Heavy, as well as the Miller Welders Sportsman LO 206 classes, leading the points in all 3 categories, after taking 5 out of a possible 6 national wins in South Carolina. Crouse will be heavily challenged throughout the weekend as Riley Kelley, the only driver to win other than Crouse in Sportsman competition at Kershaw, will be loaded for bear at a run for another few wins. Other drivers set to battle for the 4th of July title include Tanner Carter, Cale Hall, Macon Moore, and Mark Steube to name a few.

Matt Miller brings the points lead in both the Van K Wheels Junior Pro Gas Lite Class, was well as the Brads Heating and Cooling Junior Pro Gas Animal program. Set to challenge Miller this weekend are Jason Alder, Joshua Stark, Jimmy Cole Jackson, Kershaw hot shoe David Kalb Jr, and many others.

Meanwhile Cody Hall leads Alder, Miller, Jackson, and Nash Duyn in the Thor Oil Junior LO 206 class. Hall and Alder swept the main events in Kershaw with 40 points separating the top two point contenders.

Activities for the Michigan Kart Supply Nationals get underway with a full day of practice Friday, beginning at 8:30am. Following practice, the first of 3 Money Race events will be held as Brads Heating and Cooling presents the Sportsman Pro Gas and Junior Pro Gas 10 lap shootouts, each race paying $200 to the winner, $100 for second, and $50 for third, with trophies being awarded to the top 5. Following the Shootout races, the best in Senior competition take to the track for the Senior Pro Gas Money Race.

Saturday and Sunday activities will start at 8:30am both days with practice, followed by qualifying, heat races, and main events.

Klutz Takes Over for Bartlett as WKA District 3 Trustee

CONCORD, NC - WKA Members in the state of North Carolina now have a new, but familiar person that will serve the remaining term as the District 3 Trustee in their region as John Klutz, the 2 cycle representative in North Carolina will fulfill the remaining balance of District 3 Trustee Johnny Bartlett’s term, which will expire after 2015.

Bartlett, a well-known and well-respected member in the 4-cycle community, has recently taken on his own business in engine building. And with the long hours and dedication it takes to get a new business up and running, Bartlett felt he needed to give his new venture 100% of his time and effort.

While Bartlett will remain very active as a strong 4-cycle voice to the World Karting Association, members can relax in the fact that another longtime staple in kart racing in John Klutz will be assuming the District 3 Trustee role. Long known for his success with Competition Karting Incorporated out of Welcome, North Carolina, Klutz brings a wealth of knowledge, not only in 4 cycle racing, but also serves as another delegate to the National Road Racing Series, a series in which CKI has been an integral part of for decades, which includes Johns father, and WKA Hall of Famer Dan Klutz.

The position move is effective immediately. And since Klutz is fulfilling a vacancy, he will have the opportunity to run for 2 consecutive terms, once this term is completed. This year serves as the final year of Bartlett’s term, as ballots will also be going out later this year for Districts 6 and 9, serving Michigan, Ohio, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, and Maine respectively.

Members of North Carolina having questions for Mr. Klutz can direct them to (336) 731-6111

WKA would like to thank Mr. Bartlett for his years of service to the Board of Trustees, as well as the WKA office and its membership, and looks forward to continuing to work with him in the future.

BRASELTON, GA - June 16, 2015 - Skip Barber Racing School alumnus and IndyCar Team owner Bryan Herta will continue his participation and support of the Skip Barber Karts to Cars Scholarship event with the extension of the Bryan Herta Career Enhancement Scholarship Award.

For each of the next three years, Herta will choose a deserving Karter participating in Karts to Cars Scholarship Shootout. The recipient will receive a scholarship award in the amount of $15,000 in racing credits to be applied to the Skip Barber Race Series. Herta will award the scholarship to the racer who he finds to be the most passionate, driven, and talented.

The Skip Barber Karts to Cars Scholarship Shootout is the largest and single most important event for karters transitioning into race cars. Past winners of Shootout awards include A.J. Allmendinger, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Ricky Taylor, Jonathan Goring, and Joel Miller. Scholarships are courtesy of Skip Barber Racing School.

Herta launched his scholarship in 2014 with an award to Dakota Dickerson, who came in 2nd place in the Karts to Cars Scholarship Shootout. Dickerson is currently enrolled in the Skip Barber Racing School Summer Series and has garnered 70 points at Road Atlanta for the season opener and 79 points at Lime Rock Park for Rounds 3 & 4 of the Series. Dickerson currently sits second in the overall championship point standings and will travel to Road America July 6-9th in an attempt to capture the top spot.

“This award was born from a conversation between Michael Culver and myself during the 2014 Shootout. I was impressed with Dakota Dickerson and his overall skill and attitude and wanted to see what we could do to help. Michael suggest we create a new Scholarship, and I am extremely grateful to be able to stay involved with the Skip Barber Racing School and Race Series, their program is second to none and they are truly committed to training the future champions of our sport. I can’t wait to see the next crop of drivers this October,” said Herta.

Bryan Herta will continue providing the scholarship to the most deserving participant for the next three years, but in the meantime, you can catch him and his team - Bryan Herta Autosport - competing in the Verizon IndyCar Series and new this year, Bryan Herta Rallysport which competes in the Red Bull Global Rallycross series.

Herta is a big supporter of Skip Barber Racing School alumni - the current driver for Bryan Herta Autosport is Gabby Chaves, who trained in the Skip Barber Racing School system and is the 2014 Indy Lights Champion. In 2007,  Chaves won the Skip Barber Racing School Karts to Cars Scholarship at the age of 13, breaking the previous record set by Formula 1 Reserve Driver Alexander Rossi, who won at the age of 14.
