WKA Announces Charlotte Event Name, Class Structures & Registration Date

WKA Charlotte Logo.jpg

Registration to Open Memorial Day 2019

CONCORD, NC - After extensive work and dedication from the WKA Staff, Trustees and Executive Team for WKA’s return to the Charlotte Motor Speedway, June 21-23, the World Karting Association is pleased to bring the event into a little more focus with the announcement of the Event’s Name, Class Structures, and Track Layouts, all available at worldkarting.com.  Registration for all three races will be available Memorial Day.

“The WKA Team has already put so much into this event to applaud our rich history at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, it was time we announced to our membership and the Karting Public the important aspects of this trifecta event.”, stated WKA President Kevin Williams, “Work still continues, securing all other aspects of this stellar event, which when completed will be announced on the event page of WKA’s website, worldkarting.com. Everyone on our great sport is really looking forward to this event.  It’s very exciting!“
Together with the Charlotte Motor Speedway, WKA announces the event name, the Charlotte Motor Speedway WKA Karting Challenge in Concord, NC.  Branding the event as a major step in establishing identification to help Karters from all disciplines to plan their racing commitments.

With input from all the WKA Series Committees, Class Structures for all three racing programs are now available.  National Classes from the WKA Tech Manual are included for both the Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup for Sprint Racing, and Vega Tires National Road Racing Series for Road Racing, while Speedway Committee Members recognized an exciting line up for the MaxxisSpeedway Dirt Race.  Local Option Classes offered for the Sprint Track will include the Briggs 206 (CIK Chassis) Senior Class, while the Road Race will invite Open Sprint and Vintage Piston Port and Open racers to the event.

With a well-orchestrated plan to establish safe, competitive, raceable track layouts for all three programs, WKA Staffers solicited industry experts to design and maximize the track layouts for the WKA Karting Challenge at Charlotte Motor Speedway.  Road Racers will enjoy the majority of the famed Charlotte Motor Speedway “Roval”, (without the back straight chicane), leaving a substantial amount of the Roval available for the Sprint Racers, both racing in counter-clockwise direction.  Conversely, the Speedway Dirt Racers will relish a modified version of the renowned Charlotte Dirt Track to do battle Friday and Saturday nights of the event weekend.

“Making information available to our members and the karting public, especially on our website, worldkarting.com, is an important part of delivering consistent news that is beneficial to our audience and helps the karting community make their plans., “continued Williams, “The enormous assistance of the WKA team and the amazing staff at Charlotte Motor Speedway to bring such a monumental event to the karting community is really for everyone’s enjoyment.  After all, that’s why we bring such creative events to karting.  With these announcements today, we now look to prepare the registration forms, which will be available Memorial Day.”

Hotels and discounted rental cars have already been secured for the participants at discounted prices, and are available for the event right now at www.worldkarting.com   Online Entry/Entry Forms, parking, garage/pit space/camping reservations will be available Memorial Day, 2019.

WKA RETURNS TO CHARLOTTE WITH ALL THREE NATIONAL PROGRAMS

WKAwebsite.png

November 23, 2018 – Looking to combine multiple World Karting Association (WKA) events at one venue, karting will make its return to the Charlotte Motor Speedway in 2019 over the June 21-23 weekend. With the Vega Road Racing Series utilizing part of the Roval and Speedway made famous by NASCAR, the Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup will also use a portion of the Roval in a sprint race style setting while the Maxxis Speedway Dirt Series will compete at The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

"Everyone at WKA is thrilled to host an event back on our home soil, and even more excited to bring all three of our National Racing Series together the same weekend,” explains Kevin Williams. “The folks at Charlotte Motor Speedway have been amazing partners with WKA to make this historic event happen."

Maxxis Speedway Dirt Series

With the first ever Speedway Dirt Race at the Dirt Track at CMS, careful consideration was needed for track design and track prep. Maxxis Tires and the WKA staff have brought on veteran dirt track manager Mackey Flood to prepare an awesome track.

Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup

With the added Charlotte event, the 2019 schedule will experience some changes as noted below. Huge thank you to Pitt Race Complex and Concept Haulers Motor Speedway for making room on their calendars for 2019, but the addition of the Charlotte venue will result in the Manufacturers Cup program having to cancel these event venues with hopes to return to these amazing facilities in the very near future.

Other exciting news from WKA is the confirmation that the Manufacturers Cup will return to Road America on the May 17-19 weekend. Huge credit is given to Badger Kart Club in helping secure the date and additionally, they have gracefully agreed to change their race date to the August 23-25 weekend.

Revised Final Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup 2019 Schedule:

Other changes to the Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup include a change to Motul 2T Kart Oil for all 2-cycle categories as it becomes the spec oil for the series.

Additionally, at the most recent Trustee Meeting, some changes were made to the 2019 Regulations to make participation more member-friendly, as recommended by the Manufacturers Cup Competition Committee. After sampling many of the members to discuss the program's two finals per event format for each class, the drops allowed for 2019 Manufacturers Cup have changed from two entire event drops to four daily drops.

Also, to assist Mini drivers with their transition to the Junior ranks, WKA has added the KA100 Junior category to allow drivers to gain more experience before they move to the popular IAME X30 Junior class. To further assist, WKA will allow drivers with the attained age of 11-years old to advance to KA100 Junior for 2019.

Also, after polling many of the road race members, the decision was made to celebrate the 2018 Vega Road Race Series Champions Banquet at Roebling Road in March 2019, as has been in previous years.

"I've said from the beginning of my short time as President that we wanted to make WKA more member-focused,” adds Williams. “These program enhancements and schedules for our 2019 national campaigns bring the excitement and experience meter way up for our members. Special thank you to our committees, office team, trustees, and especially the support of our partners for making all this happen. 2019 promises to be one of our most exciting years yet."

155314_484855504868884_1236381393_n

CONCORD, NC The Dirt Karting World, and racing in general, lost a huge asset to the sport this past week with the passing of Marc Chimento. Well known as the owner and operator of Amelia Motor Raceway in Virginia, Chimento passed away just after midnight of Memorial Day. His charismatic smile and high energy level, always elevated his workers and competitors at the track to the highest level possible.

In addition to running a most successful dirt track for years, which also included host to many WKA Speedway Dirt Series Nationals, as well as Virginia Dirt Karting Association, VDKA events, Marc also operated a highly successful company in the Richmond area known as Hy-Tech Property Services Inc. Chimento’s success in the business world led to having over 200 employees on staff at Hy-Tech.

Marc was also the proud creator of The Christmas Train, a charitable organization that collected and assembled hundreds of bicycles donated to the Amelia County Christmas Mother each year. His extraordinary flare for the dramatic never went unnoticed, as Chimento provided helicopter rides to fans at one of the WKA National events many years ago.

Marc also served as Co-Race Director of one of the largest Daytona Dirt World Championship events several years ago at the old Daytona Municipal Stadium, back in the day of the 2,000 + entries at the track for the 4-day event. His selflessness and contributions to the sport, his business, as well as everyday life, served as a magnet, with many names passing through the Amelia gates, including the late Buddy Burkett, one of the greatest dirt series flagmen of all time, not to mention Morgan Whitaker, for decades one of the most respected national tech men in karting. His announcing booth provided 2 very distinctive voices to this day, that of Buddy Long, one of the many voices for the Motor Racing Network, and local product Russ Wiles, who now serves as the voice of the Richmond International Raceway.

Many were drawn to Marc, creating a very strong racing family.

His extraordinary spirit, selflessness, and love for his many families, as well as life itself, will be remembered Wednesday June 1 with a Visitation at the Church of the Epiphany, 11000 Smoketree Drive, North Chesterfield, Virginia, 23236 beginning at 5pm, concluding with a vigil service at 7pm.

The Funeral Mass will be held Thursday June 2 at 11am at the same location.

Additionally, the winner in the Pro Junior 3 Class, sponsored by Van K, will also be eligible for a set of wheels, thus spreading fortunes around for many drivers.

The Van K sponsorship is one of many at the $100,000 Unilli Dirt World Championship, including Champ Lite sponsor BDL Motorsports, Day 1 Pro Junior 3 Clone sponsor Onyx Racing Chassis, as well as Charger Racing Chassis, the sponsor of the $5,000 to win Pro Animal Heavy main, as well as MC Motorsports, sponsor of the $10,000 to win Pro Clone Heavy final.

Van K Wheels are sold nationwide though a very strong dealer network, including Competition Karting Inc, one of the many vendors who will be on hand for the festivities. Made 100% in North Carolina, Van K offers 2 lines of wheels, including the P-Zero, and the Pro MAXX.

ds.2013.logo_.png

CONCORD, NC - With the recent announcement of the return of the WKA/Unilli Dirt World Championships to the Dirt Track at Daytona for another year comes many of the sponsors from last years event returning as well. WKA is proud to announce the return of Charger Racing Chassis and MC Motorsports to their respective sponsorship roles for yet another year.

In 2014, Charger Racing Chassis, led by Boomer Hawk, sponsored the Pro Animal Heavy Class on Day 1 of the Dirt World Championships. With that class returning to the fold again this year, as well as a $5,000 to win carrot dangled out there, this years Pro Animal Heavy class is expected to again be busting at the seams, with 51 drivers vying for the top payday last year.

Much like Boomer, Matt Connell and the MC Motorsports group have been involved in the Dirt Motorsports world for years.  Sponsoring the Pro Junior 1 Heavy class 1 season ago, MC Motorsports returns as yet another proud class sponsor in 2015.

The return of these two long standing Dirt figures in the karting world is just the tip of the iceburg, as calls and inquiries for sponsorship and parking are flooding the WKA Office daily, making the latest edition of the Unilli Dirt World Championships another monster of a race for the holidays.

Anyone wishing to take advantage of the limited front row parking spots, or sponsorship, can contact Buddy Long at (704) 455-1606, ext 112, or buddy@worldkarting.com.

11.12.2015 - Daytona Dirt Class Structure Now Online

11.12.2015 - Daytona Dirt Class Structure Now Online

ds.2013.logo_.png

CONCORD, NC - With the Monday announcement of the classes and purses for the latest edition of the WKA/Unilli Tires Daytona Dirt World Championships Dec 27-30 at Daytona International Speedway, comes the Class Structure for the 39 classes that will be on hand for this years event, sporting $100,000 in purse, awards, and prizes. This year’s lineup is relatively close to that of last Decembers event, with very few changes, mainly to the Junior 3 classes, which will utilize the big pipe in their Clone classes this year, along with a Blue Restrictor Plate.

The respective No Pro Classes have been changed, in name only, to Semi Pro, with the same theme attached to the classes. As is the case with other programs, any driver who runs the $10,000 to win Pro Clone Heavy Class CANNOT run the Semi Pro Clone Heavy Class. Drivers must choose which of those 2 classes they will designate to run. The same applies to Day 1 with the Semi Pro Animal Heavy and $5,000 to win Pro Animal Heavy classes. Drivers running Pro Animal Heavy CANNOT run Semi Pro Animal Heavy. Drivers must choose one or the other, but not both. This rule applies strictly to these classes specifically, and does not prohibit a driver from running any other senior classes such as Champ Heavy, Limited Modified, or Animal or Clone Medium classes for example.

It is also a requirement for ALL drivers that are planning to run a Pro Class, that they MUST enter a Trophy Class. For example, once a driver decides to run either Pro Clone Heavy or Semi Pro Clone Heavy, they MUST also be entered in 1 of the classes that pays $500 to win with an overall purse of $1,000. This is the rule that applied at Daytona last year, and will be enforced once again this season.

Drivers must also remember, if respective minimum kart counts are not met in any class, purse payout will be 80%. As you fill out your entry blank, be mindful of the classes listed in their respective purse categories for minimum class participation numbers, as well as respective entry fees.

To view the Class Structure for Daytona Dirt, click on Racing Series on the WKA website. You will see the categories, including Speedway Dirt. Underneath will be a designated category for 2016 Class Structure.

Anyone with questions regarding the 2016 edition of the WKA/Unilli Dirt World Championship can contact Buddy Long at (704) 455-1606, ext 112, or at buddy@worldkarting.com.
