The WKA 2020 Tech Manual will be updated with schedules and categories for all these new programs.  Keep watching for updates at www.worldkarting.comfor more exciting news for the new season.

WKA Creates True Manufacturers Cup for 2020 National Sprint Program Enhances Classes, Race Format, and National Calendar

WKAwebsite.png

After careful planning, the World Karting Association (WKA) has made some aggressive enhancements to its Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup for 2020, and beyond.

Adding to the popular IAME classes for 2020, WKA will create a true manufacturers cup with the addition of the Vortex ROK powered classes to the program.  Stacking the classes even further, WKA will even bring back the popular sound of shifters to the series, with the inclusion of the potent, yet reliable, Vortex ROK Shifter categories.

With the enhancement of both IAME and ROK categories next year, event race format will further add to the excitement; changing to the globally popular Heat Race, Pre-Final, Final format.  Racers will begin each event weekend with Free Practice and Qualifying Practice on Day 1, then a full day of Heat Races on Day 2, peaking with the pinnacle test of the event of Pre-Final and Final on the final day.  Although points will be awarded throughout the Heat Races, Pre-Final, and Final, only one true winner in each category will emerge at the conclusion of each Final.

Finally, with so much racing available to karters around the country each year, WKA is making the courageous step to reduce its Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup calendar from six to four events in 2020, in a move that frees up more weekends for the karting community. Two of the four events of the 2020 campaign have already been solidified, beginning with the famed Daytona International Speedway, December 28-30 for Kartweek.  Additionally, the second annual Charlotte Motor Speedway WKA Karting Challenge has recently been secured, April 17-19.  Dates and locations for the remaining two events are nearing finalization and will be announced very soon.

“Our team has spent a great deal of effort looking back at the fractioning of karting over the past two decades, and we came to the conclusion that WKA needs to do its part to sew some of those pieces back together while strengthening the sport in general,” stated WKA President, Kevin Williams. “The people who really benefit from these bold enhancements to our program are the kart racers and the entire karting community.  That’s the foundation of a karting association.”

“It is this kind of togetherness and forward thinking that will help grow karting from the local clubs to the big national series,” explained ROK Cup Promotions Director of Operations Garett Potter. “This partnership with WKA the iconic name, the history in our industry, it’s an honor for us to be part of it. The ROK teams are ready and eager to get started, we looking forward to helping WKA in anyway we can to build the sport of karting, the growth of ROK over the past few years has been impressive but there is still a lot of work to do. I personally would like to thank the staff at WKA and Kevin Williams for bringing a great idea to fruition. “

With this exciting partnership, other synergies will benefit the racers, such as trusted race officials, common event formats, and point structures. Stay tuned for more information on the revamped WKA Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup.

Future announcements for Manufacturers Cup class structures, motor manufacturer prize packages, race event formats, venue dates and locations, and for all other WKA programs will be made in the very near future, and can be found at www.worldkarting.com

WKA Sends Their Condolences on the Passing of David Williams to President Kevin Williams & the Entire Williams Family

Dad+at+CAG.jpg

David L. Williams

1940 – 2019

It is difficult, at best to announce the passing of David L. Williams.  A man, who like so many others before him, truly showed his passion for motorsports, and gave so much to the best sport in the world.

His story is like so many others, starting in Drag Racing in the ‘60’s, then sports car racing with SCCA at famous tracks like Riverside International Raceway, and Laguna Seca, which eventually led to formula racing into the ‘70’s.  As a young father, when his two boys became old enough, off the Karting the Williams Family went.  All the while, David put his mechanical knowledge to use as a metal Sculptor, with a flair for Motorsports pieces, being commissioned for large sculpture projects for major clients, like the City of Sierra Madre, California, and the famed Laguna Seca Raceway.

As his boys became adults, David maintained his commitment to Karting donating his time to his local kart tracks and clubs, and establishing himself as arguably one of the most colorful, and well liked Kart Racing Announcer.  Always prepared to help Karting, David was the guy who often brought “extras” to the track; including a plunger if one was ever needed.  Bringing entertainment through his announcing at Karting Events around the USA and Canada, with IKF, WKA, Stars of Karting, and special Events, such as LaVerne Grand Prix, Redlands Grand Prix, and CalSpeed Kart Prix, in addition to numerous local clubs and tracks.  While announcing, David established his race-call “brand” with such phrases as “Knees in the Breeze”, and “You Picked a Fine Time to Leave Me Loose Wheel”, often using a train-whistle to signify the train of racers battling for a win.

David+Donating+Mario+Andretti+Sculpture+Arrividerci+1994.jpg

His most proud metal sculpting moment when David was commissioned by Laguna Seca to prepare a special sculpture in conjunction with Mario Andretti’s Arrivederci Tour, and Final Indy Car Race in 1994.  Other motorsports sculptures included tributes to Alan Kulwicki and Davey Allison, and of course cultural pieces throughout the art world, where he was a member and longtime volunteer at the Creative Arts Group.

Forever spreading his joy, happiness, and dedication to his passions, David L. Williams’ absence from the track and the art world will truly be missed.

A celebration of life has been scheduled for Sunday, August 4, 2019, 4pm-6pm, at the Creative Arts Group, 108 N. Baldwin Avenue, Sierra Madre, California, 91024, Ph. 626-355-8350.  In lieu of flowers or gifts, the Williams Family asks that donations be made to Creative Arts which will help their art classes for young artists.  A special page has been established for donations,

WKA RETURNS TO CHARLOTTE WITH ALL THREE NATIONAL PROGRAMS

WKAwebsite.png

November 23, 2018 – Looking to combine multiple World Karting Association (WKA) events at one venue, karting will make its return to the Charlotte Motor Speedway in 2019 over the June 21-23 weekend. With the Vega Road Racing Series utilizing part of the Roval and Speedway made famous by NASCAR, the Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup will also use a portion of the Roval in a sprint race style setting while the Maxxis Speedway Dirt Series will compete at The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

"Everyone at WKA is thrilled to host an event back on our home soil, and even more excited to bring all three of our National Racing Series together the same weekend,” explains Kevin Williams. “The folks at Charlotte Motor Speedway have been amazing partners with WKA to make this historic event happen."

Snip20180923_36.png

Maxxis Speedway Dirt Series

With the first ever Speedway Dirt Race at the Dirt Track at CMS, careful consideration was needed for track design and track prep. Maxxis Tires and the WKA staff have brought on veteran dirt track manager Mackey Flood to prepare an awesome track.

Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup

With the added Charlotte event, the 2019 schedule will experience some changes as noted below. Huge thank you to Pitt Race Complex and Concept Haulers Motor Speedway for making room on their calendars for 2019, but the addition of the Charlotte venue will result in the Manufacturers Cup program having to cancel these event venues with hopes to return to these amazing facilities in the very near future.

Other exciting news from WKA is the confirmation that the Manufacturers Cup will return to Road America on the May 17-19 weekend. Huge credit is given to Badger Kart Club in helping secure the date and additionally, they have gracefully agreed to change their race date to the August 23-25 weekend.

Revised Final Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup 2019 Schedule:

·       Daytona Kartweek, Daytona International Speedway - December 27-30, 2018

·       GoPro Motorplex, Mooresville, NC - March 29-31, 2019

**WKA Grand National Event

Other changes to the Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup include a change to Motul 2T Kart Oil for all 2-cycle categories as it becomes the spec oil for the series.

Additionally, at the most recent Trustee Meeting, some changes were made to the 2019 Regulations to make participation more member-friendly, as recommended by the Manufacturers Cup Competition Committee. After sampling many of the members to discuss the program's two finals per event format for each class, the drops allowed for 2019 Manufacturers Cup have changed from two entire event drops to four daily drops.

Also, to assist Mini drivers with their transition to the Junior ranks, WKA has added the KA100 Junior category to allow drivers to gain more experience before they move to the popular IAME X30 Junior class. To further assist, WKA will allow drivers with the attained age of 11-years old to advance to KA100 Junior for 2019.

WKA Vega Tires Road Race Series Banquet

Also, after polling many of the road race members, the decision was made to celebrate the 2018 Vega Road Race Series Champions Banquet at Roebling Road in March 2019, as has been in previous years.

"I've said from the beginning of my short time as President that we wanted to make WKA more member-focused,” adds Williams. “These program enhancements and schedules for our 2019 national campaigns bring the excitement and experience meter way up for our members. Special thank you to our committees, office team, trustees, and especially the support of our partners for making all this happen. 2019 promises to be one of our most exciting years yet."
