WKA RECIEVES A STATMENENT FROM BRIDGESTONE, ANNOUNCES NEW TIRE MARKING PROCEDURE & MAJOR PRIZES TO BE ANNOUNCED SOON

CONCORD, NC - WKA has been in consultation with Bridgestone regarding the concerns that arose at the WKA Winter Cup event in Ocala. Recognizing a need to take action Bridgestone's kart product manager stated, "It's unfortunate our valued karting customers experienced performance differences of YLC compound tires between the two logo version tires (“new” and “old”), and that WKA had to shoulder the burden at the event, however, we will work with WKA and take the proper steps to avoid this from happening in the future."

As always when there is a change there is a transition period and Bridgestone is working with its distributors to release the “new” logo tires through its normal distribution channels and ensure the tires are available to the competitors. Additionally, for drivers that have not procured the “new” logo tires by the WKA Pittsburgh Event Bridgestone will also offer a 1 for 1 exchange at the event (tires must be new in wrappers). These important steps ensure the drivers are all competing on equal equipment now and into the future.

WKA New Tire Marking Procedure:

For the Pittsburg Event, all WKA competitors will be required to bring to the WKA official tire marking area their race tires on competition Friday from 10:00am to 5:00pm. The tires will receive a very unique marking system to make sure that the tires submitted are personalized to the driver competing in that class. WKA’s President John Ferris stated, “Bridgestone has given assurances to WKA a return to the “Bar Codes” getting put back on the tires I see this as a temporary solution until that happens later this year. This temporary process will ensure that all drivers are using the required tires that were meant for that day’s competition and to make sure our valued racers know that the driver next to them is on the same tires for the competition day. Again this process will only be temporary as with the return of the “Bar Codes” WKA will be moving into a full scanning system of Tires, Engines and Chassis.”

Stay tuned to our Pitboard emails and social media posts, as we will be making an exciting announcement about major additional prizes to go into effect starting at the first Manufacturer's Cup race at PittRace on May 19-21st.

Adams, Towles, Luengo, Jarsocrak Sweep Ocala Winter Cup Finales, 2017 Champions Honored

CONCORD, NC - The finale for Year #2 of the WKA Winter Cup Series ended under brilliant sunshine, blue skies, and 95+ degree temperatures at the immaculate Ocala Gran Prix in Ocala, Florida. With titles in all classes hanging in the balance, it was time to get up on the wheel one more time. And that's exactly what many did, including Logan Adams, Corey Towles, Mateo, Rubio-Luengo, and Brandon Jarsocrak, sweeping their respective classes.

From holiday weather in Daytona for round 1, to Daytona 500 time in Jacksonville for stop #2, to what appeared to be the beginning of the Florida summer season at Ocala, the competition remained keen throughout the 3-race program.

Keeping pace with his championship performance from Gold Cup to Winter Cup, Corey Towles began the weekend off, topping Hunter Fox and James Vanderzee in the CIK LO206 Senior competition both days. Towles, also the Comet Kart Sales Fast Time winner each day, bested Fox, Vanderzee, Jorge Ruiz, and Ryan Rogers on Day 1, with Fox and Vanderzee switching places on day 2, followed again by Ruiz and Rogers. For his efforts, Towles was also crowned the 2017 Champion in the class, as Fox, Vanderzee, Rogers, and Ruiz completed the balance of the top 5 in the championship standings.

The battle for the top spot in the Allison Racing Engines Yamaha Sportsman Class was as close as it gets, with brothers Logan and Garrett Adams ending their season in a virtual deadlock in the championship standings, the tiebreaker coming in the form of national wins, with Logans sweep of the weekend enough to get past his brother in one of the best battles of the season. Taking the Comet Kart Sales Fast Time Award on the first day, Logan topped Sam Hinds, Garrett Adams, William Robusto, and Mateo Rubio-Luengo on Day 1, with Garrett charging up behind his brother for 2nd on Day 2, followed by Luengo, Fast Time winner Robusto, and Hinds. Following the Adams tandem in the final national championship standings were Robusto, Hinds, and Luengo.

The Comet Racing Engines Yamaha Junior class found 2 different winners over the weekend, the first being eventual class champion Jack Dorsey, as he edged Bryce Aron, Matthew Mockabee, and Blake Korth on Day 1. Day 2 found Mockabee not only taking the Comet Kart Sales Fast Time Award, but also heading to his first career national WKA win, edging Dorsey, Aron, and Korth. Dorsey claimed the title for the season over Aron, Mockabee, Elliott Budzinski, and Korth.

One of the tightest battles coming into the finale was in the CRPRACING.com Mini Swift class with Mateo Rubio-Luengo joining the ranks of the sweep club, pulling out the broom both days for the top honors. Splitting the Comet Kart Sales Fast time honors with Christian Miles, Luengo was able to get around Miles on Day 1 for the win, with Miles holding on for second, followed by Sam Corry, Sofia D'Arrigo, and Sebastian NG. Day 2 found NG making a great run in the event, finishing on the heels of Luengo, with Corry, Miles, and Ben Maier rounding out the top 5. By virtue of his consistency both days, Miles was able to distance the gap between himself and challenger Caleb Gafrarar, who finished 6th and 7th both days, taking the title in the class. Gafrarar, Luengo, Corry and Maier were the final 5 in the championship standings.

The IAME USA East Pro Swift Sportsman class was also loaded for bear on the final weekend of racing, with Jeremy Fletcher and Brent Crews taking down the top honors both days. Looking to gain some valuable points, and possibly get to the championship podium twice in the Winter Cup Series, Logan Adams took the Comet Kart Sales Fast Time Awards both days. However, Adams would finish on the heels of both Fletcher and Crews each day, with Anderson Leonard, Garrett Adams, and Sam Hinds the top 5 on Day 1, with William Robusto, Lucas Rodriguez, and Nikita Johnson following Crews and Adams on Day 2. While not having the weekend he wanted, Ashton Chilton had plenty of success in the series first 2 races at Daytona and Jax, assuring a championship for the young driver. While Chilton mustered up a 7th and 9th over the weekend,   the damage was done at the top, with Chilton the champ over Lucas Rodriguez, Brent Crews, Logan Adams, and Jeremy Fletcher.

Much like Chilton, Pauly Massimino enjoyed a healthy lead in the Woltjer Racing Engines Pro IAME Junior class coming into Ocala, which eventually would be needed, as Massimino was involved in contact with another kart on Saturday, thus finishing dead last on the field. Massimino rebounded for a 7th place run on Sunday, good enough for a strong result in the final standings as the champion. In the meantime, Zachary Hollingshead and Dylan Gennaro were the class of the field up front both days. Interestingly enough, both took the Comet Kart Sales Fast Time Awards, but would finish second to the other each day.

Hollingshead took Day #1 over Gennaro, with Caleb Bacon, Jade Hubert, and Isabella Robusto making up the top 5. Day 2 found Gennaro finding his way to victory lane, with Hollingshead on his heals, followed by Hubert, Gunnar Bischoff, and Caleb Bacon. In addition to Massimino, it was a tough weekend for the top 3 in the final standings, as both championship runner-up Kaden Wharff and Gray Leadbetter had rough outings, finishing outside the top 10 both days. But strong overall season efforts placed them in the top 3 behind Massimino, with Isabella Robusto and Bischoff rounding out the top 5 in the final standings.

The final title to be decided came in the form of the KartSport North America Pro IAME Senior class, where Brandon Jarsocrak was the fourth and final driver to sweep weekend action, topping Abby McLaughlin both days. With the sweep, Jarsocrak also took the title over McLaughlin, with Ryan Raffa, Jonathan Yobaggy, and AJ Myers rounding out the top 5 in the championship standings.

All champions, in addition to their awards, also received a free set of Bridgestone Tires, as well as free entry into one of the remaining 2017 Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup Series events, the next being May 19-21 at Pittsburgh International Race Complex in Wampum, Pennsylvania.

While the top 3, as well as overall weekend winners and champions were honored, the final award to be bestowed was the trip to the X30 Nationals later this year in Lemans, France. Drivers eligible were competitors in the Pro IAME Junior and Senior ranks who participated in all 3 events in the Winter Cup season, with Junior driver Gunnar Bischoff being selected as the recipient by virtue of the drawing held at the end of the weekend.

Special thanks to Eric Jones and IAME for his very special presentation and hard work for this opportunity to be presented.

Congrats to Gunnar Bischoff and all the 2017 WKA

Titles on the Line this Weekend in Ocala

CONCORD, NC - The Quest for the Cup, the WKA Winter Cup to be specific, will be attained this weekend, as the 3-race national program, now in its second season, will crown its 2017 national champions at Ocala Gran Prix. Dating back to Daytona KartWeek in December of 2016, and rolling through Jacksonville, Florida in late February, competitors have been laboring hard, in search of the title in their respective classes, including:

CIK LO206 Senior

Allison Racing Engines Yamaha Sportsman

Comet Racing Engines Yamaha Junior

OTK KART USA ROK Shifter

CRPRACING.com Mini Swift

IAME USA East Pro Swift Sportsman

Woltjer Racing Engines Pro IAME Junior

KartSport North America Pro IAME Senior

When the CIK Senior LO206 Class hits Ocala, Corey Towles will be looking to cap off what has been a great early season in 4 Cycle competition. Following a sweep at Daytona, Towles maintained his consistency, garnering a runner-up and third at Jacksonville, and currently sits ahead of Hunter Fox in the standings, with Jax winner James VanDerZee, Ryan Rogers, and fellow Jax winner Sean Meier rounding out the top 5.

The Adams brothers, in the form of Garrett and Logan, come to Ocala atop the standings in the Allison Racing Engines Yamaha Sportsman class. 2 wins and a pair of 4th place finishes have Garrett leading his brother, with William Robusto, Sam Hinds, and Annie Rhule the top 5 drivers in the overall standings.

Following a somewhat tough outing at Daytona, Jack Dorsey roared back to life at Jacksonville, sweeping the weekend's events in the Comet Racing Engines Yamaha Junior class, and holds a healthy lead in the standings over Bryce Aron, the runner-up to Dorsey twice at Jacksonville. Elliott Budzinski, a 1 time winner at Daytona, currently sits third, with Tyler Ferris and Colin Neal rounding out the top 5.

A tight battle will be settled in the OTK KART USA ROK Shifter class, where Daytona winners Vincenzo Sarracino and Jonathan Kotyk will contend for the title. Sarracino currently holds a 45-point edge over Kotyk in the championship standings, with Ryan Lewis, Michael Stevens, and Rory Van der steur making up the current top 5.

The battle of the weekend to watch may surely be for the CRPRACING.com Mini Swift title, where Caleb Gafrarar and Christian Miles are separated by just 25 points. While Gafrarar has a Daytona win under his belt, Miles sweep of the Jacksonville event tightened the battle up big time. Ben Maier comes into the event sitting third in the standings, with Sam Corry and Sebastian NG rounding out the top 5.

Ashton Chilton may just have the best finishing percentage of all Junior drivers so far this season. With a pair of wins and runner-up finishes, Chilton holds a commanding lead over Lucas Rodriguez in the IAME USA East Pro Swift Sportsman class, with Brent Crews, a winner at Jacksonville, Annie Rhule, and Tyler Wettengel the current top 5.

The battle in the Woltjer Racing Engines Pro IAME Junior class finds Pauly Massimino on top handily over Kaden Wharff. A pair of top fives at Daytona, combined with a sweep of the Jacksonville weekend has Massimino on the verge of the title. Following the top 2 are Gray Leadbetter, Isabella Robusto, and Dylan Tavella.

A win at Daytona, along with a 4th place finish, combined with a sweep of wins at Jacksonville are all the ingredients that have led to Brandon Jarsocrak cooking up a title in the KartSport North America Pro IAME Senior class. Ryan Raffa, in his return this year to WKA competition, is currently second, followed by Abby McLaughlin, Jonathan Yobaggy, and AJ Myers.

In addition to the Pro IAME Junior and Senior titles, here’s a look at the drivers currently eligible to win a trip to Lemans, France in October for the X30 Nationals, IF they participate in Ocala as well this weekend:

Pro IAME Junior

Pauly Massimino

Kaden Wharff

Gray Leadbetter

Isabella Robusto

Austin Morris

Nick Trumball

Gunner Bischoff

Pro IAME Senior

Brandon Jarsocrak

Ryan Raffa

Abby McLaughlin

Jonathan Yobaggy

Pre-Entry Deadline for Ocala Winter Cup Extended to March 24

CONCORD, NC - World Karting Officials have elected to add 1 more week to the pre-entry deadline for the final Winter Cup event of 2017 at Ocala Gran Prix in Florida, thus extending the deadline to Friday, March 24.

While far from the summertime racing season, the months of January through March historically can be just as busy with the Florida Winter Tour, WKA Winter Cup, SKUSA Winter Nats, and Challenge of the Americas events covering the winter calendar.

And with many of the WKA customers running the bulk of these events, days spent at home filling out a new entry blank for an upcoming event are few and far between. Given the rigorous challenges of the travel and home schedule, officials felt another week would allow many customers the chance to catch their breath, as they head to the home stretch of the winter racing season.

The finale for the WKA Winter Cup Series will indeed be huge, with many incentives on the line for champions, as well as participants who ran all 3 Winter Cup events, Daytona, Jacksonville, and Ocala. Champions in CIK LO206 Senior, Yamaha Sportsman, Yamaha Junior, Mini Swift, Pro Swift Sportsman, Pro IAME Junior, and Pro IAME Senior will receive a free set of Bridgestone Tires, as well as a free entry to one of the four remaining Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup Series events.

Additionally, through the relationship that WKA has developed with ROK CUP USA, any WKA driver who races the Winter Cup in Ocala will receive free registration for the 4th and final ROK CUP USA race in Orlando the week following the Ocala Winter Cup event. Essentially, a competitor can register once, which will cover the cost of two events. For any driver who does not have a ROK Shifter engine, ROK CUP USA has a great dealer program with fantastic engine rental programs. For further info, contact ROK CUP USA at (407) 476-5635, or info@rokcupusa.com.

The 2017 ROK Shifter Winter Cup Champion will receive tires, fuel, oil, and a free entry into the ROK CUP USA Finals in Orlando in September.

The final incentive for the series goes out to competitors in the Pro IAME Junior and Senior classes. Drivers in these two classes who participate in all 3 Winter Cup events will be eligible for a drawing, with the winner gaining a trip to Lemans, France in October for the X30 Nationals. In addition to the participants who have run all 3 events, winners and overall weekend champions will have their names placed in the drawing, marking each time they won, thus enhancing their chances to win the experience. Aside from the cost of the travel to the event, all other expenses will be paid for that weekend of racing. WKA would like to thank Eric Jones of IAME USA for his efforts in putting this program together.

The drawing will be held April 2 at Ocala Gran Prix.

Miles, Dorsey, Massimino, Jarsocrak Double Up in Jax Winter Cup / New Tech Update

CONCORD, NC - The WKA Winter Cup Series officially wrapped up the second national event of the season, with the ultra-long back stretch and technical turns of 103rd Street Sports Complex in Jacksonville serving as the battle ground for the series penultimate event, with the finale coming March 31-April 2 at Ocala Gran Prix.

Making the most of their weekends were Christian Miles, Jack Dorsey, Pauly Massimino, and Brandon Jarsocrak, all doubling up in the win category for the weekend. Dorsey’s wins came in the Comet Racing Engines Yamaha Junior Class both days, while Miles swept the action in the CRPRACING.com Mini Swift Class. Massimino mastered the Woltjer Racing Engines Pro IAME Junior class. And for Jarsocrak, his double success came in the KartSport North America Pro IAME Senior category. Here’s a look at the balance of the weekends winners.

CIK LO206 Senior: Sean Meier, James VanDerZee

Allison Racing Engines Yamaha Sportsman: Garrett Adams, Sam Hinds

IAME USA East Pro Swift Sportsman: Ashton Chilton, Brent Crews

3 classes found different winners both days, one of which was the CIK LO206 Senior class, in which Jacksonville veteran Sean Meier claimed the top honors on Day 1, turning back Daytona winner Corey Towles on the first day, with Hunter Fox, James VanDerZee, and Michael Clark rounding out the top 5. On Day 2, it was VanDerZee’s turn to stand atop the podium, topping Meier in the finale, with Towles, Fox, and Jorge Ruiz making up the top 5. Meier and Towles took the Comet Kart Sales Fast Time awards respectively.

The Allison Racing Engines Yamaha Sportsman class also found parity in the first position, with Garrett Adams and Sam Hinds sharing wins on the weekend. Adams fended off brother Logan Adams on the first day of action, with Hinds, Will Robusto, and Adam Maxwell completing the top 5. Hinds improved 2 notches in the order on Sunday, turning back Logan Adams, while Annie Rhule roared her way into a top 3 finishing position on the final day. Completing the top 5 were Garrett Adams and Adam Maxwell. Sebastian NG and Logan Adams were the Comet Kart Sales Fast Time winners for the weekend.

The beginning of a weekend sweep first came for Jack Dorsey in the Comet Racing Engines Yamaha Junior class, as Dorsey won a great battle with Bryce Aron on both days enroute to the sweep of weekend activities. The 2 drivers also split the Comet Kart Sales Fast Time awards for the weekend as well.

Christian Miles was the next candidate for a double event win for the weekend, taking the highly competitive CRPRACING.com Mini Swift class. After taking the Comet Kart Sales Fast Time award for Saturday, Miles proceeded to top Sebastian NG, Sam Corry, Jorge Ortiz, and Caleb Gafrarar. Miles had a little more work to do Sunday, wrestling the lead away from Comet Kart Sales Fast Timer Sofia D’Arrigo, then eventually fending off Gafrarar for the win, with Bryce Sanders improving from a 7th place run Saturday to finish third. D’Arrigo came home fourth with Ben Maier rounding out the top 5.

The IAME USA East Pro Swift Sportsman class was also loaded with talent, with points leader Ashton Chilton taking down the Day 1 honors. Comet Kart Sales Fast Time winner Lucas Rodriguez came home second, followed by Annie Rhule, Tyler Wettengel, and Jeremy Fletcher. Day 2 found Brent Crews coming to life, sweeping the Comet Kart Sales Fast Time honors, as well as the win, topping Chilton, Rodriguez, Wettengel, and Garrett Adams.

Pauly Massimino was next in line to snare a pair of wins, taking the Woltjer Racing Engines Pro IAME Junior class, as well as the Comet Kart Sales Fast Time efforts both days. Massimino was trailed by Gray Leadbetter, Kaden Wharff, Isabella Robusto, and Alex Yankowski on Saturday, while Madison Campeau improved from 6th to 2nd on day 2, followed by Robusto, Leadbetter, and Gunner Bischoff.

Brandon Jarsocrak rounded out the Four Horseman who took double event wins, taking the KartSport North America Pro IAME Senior honors on day 1, followed closely by Comet Kart Sales Fast Time winner Ryan Raffa, Lance Fenderson, Abby McLaughlin, and Jonathan Yobaggy. On day 2, Jarsocrak fended off Fenderson, the Fast Time winner, with Raffa, McLaughlin, and Yobaggy making up the top 5.

With 2 events in the books, it’s down to the third and final event of the winter season to see who the 2017 Winter Cup Champions will be, as focus now turns to Ocala Gran Prix March 31-April 2.

Champions in all classes, with the exception of the ROK Shifter class, will receive a set of Bridgestone tires, as well as a free entry into one of the remaining four Bridgestone Manufacturer Cup Series events, those including Pittsburgh, New Castle, Wolf Paving Raceway, and GoPro Motorplex.

The ROK Shifter Winter Cup Champion will receive tires, fuel, oil, and a free entry into the ROK Cup USA Nationals in September in Orlando.

Additionally, any drivers in the Pro IAME Junior and Senior classes who participate in all 3 Winter Cup events will be eligible for a drawing for a trip in October to Lemans, France for the X30 International Finals. The drawing is open to drivers who have participated in all 3 events. Chassis Battle Heats Up Early Following Daytona Mfg Cup

Snip20160815_20.png

CONCORD, NC- As the title claimed for the 2016 Manufacturers Championship Trophy was claimed by the slightest of margins, the 2017 battle for the top chassis on the Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup Series appears to be headed in the same direction. On the heels of the 2016 edition of Daytona KartWeek, which also kicks off the 2017 season for the series, 11 different chassis scored wins in the 18 Final events run during the Margay Sprint Championships at Daytona International Speedway Dec 28-30.

Leading the way was 2016 runner-up Tony Kart, checking in with 4 wins at the World Center of Racing, followed closely by defending champion Top Kart with 3. The Comet Eagle Chassis, as well as Kosmic, were the only other chassis that scored more than 1 victory in the season opener.

The wealth for Tony Kart was spread amongst 4 drivers, with Ashton Chilton scoring one of the wins in the IAME USA East Pro Swift Sportsman Class. Joining Chilton in the win category for Tony Kart were Colin Neal, the top dog in the Comet Racing Engines Yamaha Junior class, while Elliott Budzinski took Day 2 honors in the same class, with Vincenzo Sarracino taking the win in the OTK Kart USA ROK Shifter class.

For Top Kart, again 3 different drivers led the way, with Alexander Kardashian taking the Franklinkart.com Yamaha Senior class. Joining Kardashian for Top Kart were Jonathan Kotyk in the ROK Shifter class, while Dakota Pesek claimed the second day of Yamaha Senior competition.

Kosmic cashed in on their 2 wins on day 2 with Mateo Rubio-Luengo taking the CRPRACING.com Mini Swift competition, while Tyler Gonzalez laid claim to the Woltjer Racing Engines Pro IAME Junior category.

The addition of the LO206 Senior class to the Mfg Cup fold this year led to Corey Towles drawing first blood not once, but twice, leading the charge for the Comet Eagle camp. The two wins were significant also in the fact that Towles was the only repeat winner all week long in national competition, leading to quite a bit of parity for the first national event of the season.

Scoring 1 victory a piece were Comp Kart, TB Kart, Parolin, BTK, FA, Praga, and Benik. Here’s the list of winners per chassis:

Allison Racing Engines Yamaha Sportsman: William Robusto: Comp Kart

KARTSPORT North America Pro IAME Senior: AJ Myers: TB Kart

CRPRacing.com Mini Swift: Caleb Gafrarar: Parolin

Woltjer Racing Engines Pro IAME Junior: Zane Maloney: BTK

Allison Racing Engines Yamaha Sportsman: Garrett Adams: FA

KARTSPORT North America Pro IAME Senior: Brandon Jarsocrak: Praga

IAME USA East Pro Swift Sportsman: Elio Giovane: Benik

Pre Entry Deadline for all 3 Series of Daytona KartWeek Dec 14

CONCORD, NC - With December flying by at a rapid pace, competitors who have yet to submit their entries for the latest edition of Daytona KartWeek are reminded the pre-entry deadline for all 3 series, including the WKA/Maxxis Dirt World Championship, the Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup Series, and the Dunlop/ Xeramic National Road Race Series, presented by Russell Karting, is just 1 week away, December 14.

Competitors have until that point to take advantage of the pre- entry pricing, before the At Track Pricing kicks in. Entries have been pouring in at a record pace, with Road Race Entries already exceeding those of last year, as well as Mfg Cup, and the highly anticipated return of Maxxis Tires and the optional Tri State Series points deal to the Dirt Track, with sponsors and entries still coming in daily.

With just 1 race per season at present in the Dirt program, competitors are required to fill out a Temporary WKA Membership Application, at a cost of $25. While the registration window will be manned by 4 workers at Daytona on Parking Day, WKA, in an effort to keep the lines flowing, and down as best as possible, are urging competitors who need to sign up as a member, to take advantage of the Membership Application in advance of the event, and download the application, which is available on the Speedway Dirt Series site, fill out, and return to the WKA Office. This will allow for a much better start for all competitors for the latest edition of Daytona KartWeek.

2017 WKA Manufacturers & Winter Cup Updates, Awards Banquet, and Daytona Race entry NOW ONLINE!

CONCORD, NC - While the 2017 version of the Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup Series Schedule was released months ago, WKA Officials have finalized all the venues and dates heading into the new year. While the Manufacturers Cup Series has maintained its original 5 race schedule, the schedule for the WKA Winter Cup Series has been modified, based on scheduling challenges with competing series.

To provide customers that run multiple programs as much of a break between races as possible, the very successful 3 race winter program, now entering its second season, has adjusted its dates and venues, with stops in Daytona, Jacksonville, and Ocala.

Following a return to impressive numbers in 2016, the Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup Series, as always, will begin the season at the World Center of Racing, Daytona International Speedway December 27-30 for the Margay Sprint Nationals. The event, as was the case last year, will also be counted as the first WKA Winter Cup program for the new season. The next Manufacturers Cup event will then take the competitors to the Pittsburgh International Race Complex in Wampum, Pennsylvania May 19-21.  The series will then head to its traditional mid-summer stop July 14-16 at New Castle Motorsports Park in Indiana, with the August venue becoming another trip to the Midwest August 25-27 at the newly renovated Briggs & Stratton Raceway Park in Dousman, Wisconsin. The finale will bring the racers to Mooresville North Carolina.  Champions will be determined at GoPro Motorplex at the season ending Grand National event October 13-15. Competitors will be able to count their best 8 of 10 finals for the Man-Cup series in 2017.

On the Winter Cup side, once the program departs Daytona in December, the series will head to 103rd Street Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Florida February 24-26, with the finale scheduled for March 31-April 2 at the Ocala Gran Prix facility making this an all Florida Winter Cup in 2017.  There will be NO DROPS in the Winter Cup program, competitors will count 6 out of 6 finals.

The WKA Manufacturers and Winter Cup Classes offer the same structure as 2016 with a few changes:

Kid Kart will be running as an exhibition class at the Manufacturers and Winter Cup events for just the cost of a Pit Pass.  They will have the opportunity to take laps during breaks and lunch at these events, with all drivers receiving a medal for participation. Kid Kart racers wishing to compete in the Kid Kart Class for a National Championship will have the opportunity to do so as the class is now part of the 2017 WKA Gold Cup Series. (details coming soon)

Lo206 Senior (CIK Body Work and Man-Cup Chassis Rules) has been added to the Manufactures Cup filling the void left by Kid Kart. This class with the its huge growth in the Midwest and the North Carolina area should make for a very good addition to the Manufacturers Cup class structure.

On a technical note, Yamaha Junior, starting in Daytona will have new size rear tires.  The WKA Trustees voted back in mid-2016 to change to 7.10 for the 2017 Season. There are no other changes for the class.

A new addition to the Winter Cup Class Structure will be the local option ROK Senior Shifter Class. The package is strong in the state of Florida, so the WKA Trustees wanted to give this class an opportunity in the WKA series. This will give the local Florida racers the chance to bring their ROK Shifter equipment onto the Daytona Karting track for the first time and then compete in Jacksonville and Ocala, tracks that they are very accustomed with.  The Class will follow the ROK Cup engine rules and use the ROK Cup Bridgestone (YLR) slick tires.

2017 CLASSES

Mini Swift

Pro Swift Sportsman

Yamaha Sportsman

Yamaha Junior

*Yamaha Senior (Daytona, Pitt, New Castle, Dousman & GoPro)

Lo206 Senior (Man Cup Chassis Rules)

IAME Junior

IAME Senior

**ROK Senior Shifter (Winter Cup only— (Daytona, Jacksonville & Ocala)

Listening to the racers suggestions the WKA Trustees voted to change its format to better accommodate an earlier finish on Race Day Two.  However, because of the short amount of daylight during Daytona Kart Week and the pit closing curfew, Daytona will follow Race Day Two format that consists of Qualifying, Heat and Final both race days.  WKA will extend the laps of the Heat and Final races.  The lineup for the Final both days will consist of points from Qualifying and the Heat race each day to set the grid for the final.  Day 1 and Day 2 are separate race days and don’t impact each other.

The balance of Winter & Manufacturers Cups will consist of Race Day 1 being the same as 2016 with Qualifying, Heat 1, Heat 2 & Final with Race Day 2 consisting of Qualifying, Heat and a Final (extended laps from day 1) with the lineup for the Final of Race Day 2 consisting of points from Qualifying and Heat. Again two separate race days that don’t impact each other.  It should be noted WKA Practice schedule will not be changing.

Here’s a look at the 2017 National Schedule for both series:

WKA-logo-4C-CS3-small.png

CONCORD, NC - WKA Officials are pleased to announce the dates and venues for the 2017 national schedule for both the Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup, WKA Winter Cup Series and the start of the RLV Tuned Exhaust Gold Cup Series, allowing competitors and their families a wealth of advanced time to lay out their 2017 plans. Leading the charge as always on the Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup Series is the December visit to Daytona International Speedway for the latest edition of KartWeek Dec 27-30. From there, the schedule takes competitors to Pittsburgh International Race Complex in Wampum, Pennsylvania May 19-21, a change from the August date the facility has hosted the last few years. From there it’s a return to Mark Dinmore’s New Castle Motorsports Park in Indiana July 14-16 for a mid-summer classis. Following a 1year hiatus, the series returns back to Briggs & Stratton Raceway Park in Dousman, Wisconsin August 25-27, with the finale for the series this year at GoPro Motorplex October 13-15 for the series Grand National event.

The schedule allows fans and competitors to once again enjoy the beaches of Daytona, a little cooler weather in Pittsburgh in May, a possible monster summer clash prior to the SKUSA Summer Nat’s at New Castle in July, a dip into the late summer Wisconsin weather at Badger, and the chance to hoist a Grand National Eagle in the shadows of the NASCAR Hall of Fame and Race Shops at GoPro Motorplex.

While the Manufacturers Cup Series has enjoyed success for quite some time, the all new WKA Winter Cup Series enjoyed a strong response and great attendance for all 3 of their inaugural events immediately. The series will shift gears somewhat in 2017, entertaining 2 new venues to their schedule, and also starting at a later date than last season. The series will kick off its season opener at Ocala Gran Prix in Ocala, Florida February 3-5. From there, the series will head to the NOLA Motorsports Complex in Louisiana for the series first ever run in the Bayou State March 3-5, with the season finale once again wrapping up at GoPro Motorplex in Mooresville, North Carolina.

Discussions are also underway with various facilities for the RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series but we can confirm working with the great people at North Florida Kart Club and President Brad Farmer a return to Jacksonville for Round 1 of the 2017 Gold Cup March 24-26, and we will be finalizing the balance of the Gold Cup schedule, as well as the Dunlop/Xeramic National Road Race Series presented by Russell Karting shortly.

Additionally, the respective Competition and Tech Committees are holding meetings to discuss class structure and rules for the upcoming season, in preparation for the upcoming Tech Manual Meeting with the WKA Board of Trustees, being held 1 month earlier this year, following the July Manufacturers Cup event at New Castle Motorsports Park.

Here’s a breakdown of the 2017 National Schedule for Manufacturers Cup, Winter Cup and the 1st of the Gold Cup Events.

winterCup_logo.png

CONCORD, NC 2 rounds of competition in Florida the past 2 months will culminate March 4-6 at GoPro Motorplex in Mooresville, North Carolina, as WKA will crown 8 champions in the inaugural WKA Winter Cup. Of the many battles to be determined, the Briggs and Stratton LO206 Junior class is one of the best, with just 5 points separating Daytona winner Hunter Fox from Jimmy Cole Jackson, the winner of 1 of 2 events at 103rd Street Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Florida earlier this month. Nash Duyn currently holds the third spot down with Day 1 Jacksonville winner Cody Hall fighting for the third and final awards spot. Mark Steube currently rounds out the top 5 with Cade Frazier, Ryan Rogers, Daytona winner David Kalb Jr, Matt Miller, and Brian Van Cleve rounding out the current top 10.

The story in the senior version of the Briggs and Stratton LO206 Class is a little different as Corey Towles, the Day 1 winner at Daytona, currently holds a 175 point lead over 2 time winner Sean Meier, as Towles consistency has paid off big time. Matt Mayes, fresh off of some strong results from Jacksonville, holds onto third in the standings, with Mike Greiner and Michael Clark rounding out the top 5. Top ten are made up of Zack Skolnick, Patrick O’Neil, Jax winner Jason Yarbrough, Hannah Grisham, and David Vasquez.

In the IAME USA East Pro Swift Sportsman class, Jason Welage and Connor Ferris have been the big winners this season with Ferris taking a win at both Daytona and Jax. However, Welage’s win at Jacksonville, combined with his consistency, have the defending 3 time Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup champion in the lead by 50 points heading into the final event. Robert Noaker III currently leads the charge for the final step on the championship podium in third followed by Kaden Wharff and Annie Rhule for the top 5. Top ten include Zane Maloney, Gray Leadbetter, Ugo Ugochukwu, Ashton Chilton, and Luca Mars.

While Wharff is fighting for a top 3 in Pro Swift Sportsman, his Allison Racing Engines Yamaha Sportsman win at Jacksonville has placed him in a position to challenge for the title, with Robert Noaker III, the event sweeper at Daytona, as well as Day 2 Jax winner Jason Welage, leaving the top 2 in a virtual deadlock for the title, with Wharff 120 points back, but comfortably in the third and final podium spot. Eli Trull and Luca Mars round out the top 5 with Annie Rhule, Connor Ferris, Taylor Maas, Madison Campeau, and Rylee Engel making up the top 10.

Parity has reined supreme in the Water For A Cause Kid Kart Class with 4 different winners finding victory lane so far this season. Karsyn Walters Day 2 win at Jacksonville has the young driver in total command of the point standings though, sporting a 175 point lead over Ayrton Grim, with Jax Day 1 winner CJ Bowman currently third, followed by Dusty Larson and Austin Olds. Daytona winner Ava Dutton is currently sixth in the standings with Preveil Perkins, Daytona winner Indy Ragan, Samuel Igua, and Aubrey Adams rounding out the top 10.

Former Kid Kart competitor Caleb Gafrarar impressively leads the charge in the CRPRACING.COM Mini Swift class. Fresh off his Day 2 win in Jacksonville, Gafrarar leads Nicholas Terlecki by 50 tallies heading to the finale. Sebastian NG, as well as Jax Day 1 winner Brent Crews, and Eli Trull round out the top 5. Making up the top 10 are Danny Dyszelski, Daytona winner Jeremy Fletcher, Sam Corry, Benjamin Maier, and Perra Granger.

Lance Fenderson brings the best winning percentage of all drivers into Mooresville, having won 3 of the 4 events in the Woltjer Racing Engines Pro IAME Junior class. After splitting with Vincenzo Sarracino at Daytona, Fenderson swept at Jacksonville, and sports a 100 point edge over Alex Bertagnoli, with Pauly Massimino, Sarracino, and Ty Gibbs the top 5. Completing the top ten are Emil Schulz, Joshua Maloney, AJ Zale, Sam Tisdale, and Jacob Abel.

Much like Kid Karts, the KartSport North America Pro IAME Senior class has seen 4 different winners, with points leader Brandon Jarsocrak still looking for his first win. Jarsocrak leads Jax winner Braden Eves by a slim 30 point margin, with Daytona winner Brandon Lemke, Jonathan Kotyk, and Daytona winner Elliott Findlayson making up the top 5. The top ten are rounded out by Calvin Ming, Austin Schulz, NASCAR Sprint Cup driver AJ Allmendinger, Jax winner Mike Giessen, and Abby McLaughlin.

With the stage now set, competitors will go through an all day practice session Friday, with qualifying, 2 sets of Heat Races, and a Final, rounding out each days activities. Following podiums for each days top 3 finishers, the 2016 Winter Cup Champions, as well as the second and third place finishers will also be established, with awards also on hand for the champions and top recipients of the first annual WKA Winter Cup.

Special thanks to Comet Kart Sales, proud sponsor of the Fast Time awards, as well as Checkered Motorsports, sponsor of the award given to each classes overall best finisher per class.

Additionally, Tillotson will be giving away another 4500w Portable Generator to 1 lucky entrant in the Mini Swift, Pro Swift Sportsman, Pro IAME Junior, or Pro IAME Senior class. Drivers in these classes must make sure they have the Tillotson stickers affixed to their karts. Stickers will be available at Registration, or also on the WKA Souviner Trailer. The drawing will be held on Sunday of the event.
