Road Race Competitors Gear Up for Roebling Road Nationals

CONCORD, NC - The long gap between December and March has finally concluded for competitors on the Dunlop/Xeramic National Road Race Series presented by Russell Karting, as Roebling Road Raceway in Savannah, Georgia allows drivers a chance to return to the track for stop #2 on the WKA Road Race circuit this weekend.

Leading the way is Four-time Daytona winner Andrew Boyer, leading both the Animal Heavy and Clone LO206 Heavy classes, following his stellar performance during Daytona Kart Week. Some of the challengers for Boyer in the Animal class will be Rob Garland, Wesley Thompson, Robert Garland Sr, and Toni Alexander, while the Garland duo, as well as Joe Cuslidge and James Cartledge will be some of the competition for Boyer in the Clone LO206 Heavy class.

The female contingent will be well represented, with both Amanda Holewski and Dawn Magiera coming to town as leaders in their respective classes. For Holewski, the season has started off with the lead in the CKI sponsored Yamaha Sportsman Medium class, with past champion Matt Michel, David Lee, Brandon Schenkel, and Lyle Trudell just some of the stiff competition she will face. Magiera leaves Daytona, leading the Yamaha Sprint class over Al Gierz, Louie Magiera, Tory Kamerling, and Mark Justice.

Another multiple winner in the form of Midwest ace Patrick Olsen leads the KALL Racing/Millers Dynotime Racing Formula 100 class over 2016 champion Lance Yunck, with Scott Stauffer, Brian Morse, and Jason Lorang expected to mount a serious challenge.

Lorang comes to Roebling leading a class as well. Following success in the West Texas Outlaws TaG Heavy class at Daytona, Lorang will be challenged by Jim Snyder, Brian Cherry, Jeff Salak, and John Brown, to name a few.

Stephen Wheatley comes to Savannah leading the Hoosier Racing Tires Animal Lite class over Ben Thomason, while Brian Wilhelm is looking to defend 2 classes, as the leader in the Formula 125 class over Mitch White, Allen Hollinger, Anthony Turco, and Darrin Cuthbertson, while also leading The Agile Group Unlimited class over Cuthbertson, Turco, Hollinger, and Scott Hodges.

Margay Racings Keith Freber again enjoyed Daytona, leaving the World Center of Racing as the leader in the Yamaha Senior class over John Brown, Adam Trumbley, Chad Dokken, and Bill Trumbley, while Tim Linthicum brings the lead in the Yamaha Sportsman Heavy standings to town with him, leading Austin Henry, Amanda Holewski, David Lee, and John LaRue.

Road Racing would not be complete if a Fulks wasn’t leading the standings in SOME category. For both Randy and Rick Fulks, they have again found that early season success, with Randy leading the B Stock class over Scott Goodman, Robby Harper III, Dusty Dean, and Robby Harper, while brother Rick holds the lead in the 100cc Controlled class over Gary Mikusch, Lance Yunck, Michael Tracy, and Scott Stauffer.

In the 125 Sprint Shifter class, Tracy Phillips comes to town as the leader over Donald Santini, Jim Russell Jr, Denver Liabenow, and April Danals, while steady veteran Louie Magiera holds court in the WKA Sprint class over Al Gierz, David Bruinsma, Otto Vollmerhausen, and Adam Trumbley.

Nicholas Martin will look to maintain his lead in the WT Racing IAME Sprint class, leading Donald Nelson, Walter Troup, Stephen Bassham, and Jeff Salak, while Brian Fisher leads the ultra-competitive Fisher Racing Engines Stock Honda class over Benjamin Eberhart, Steven Rougeou, Stephen Flatt, and Jason Park.   

Jordan Johnson currently leads 2-time 2016 champion Cole Peschang in the Junior Animal category, with Dan Febbroriello leading the Yamaha Sportsman Sprint class this weekend over Mandy Doles, Levi Newman, Ashley Crawford, and Tommy Young.

Rob Hindery is the early leader in the Clone LO206 Lite class over Ricky Taylor and Peter Mazzarella, while Gary Schenkel leads JC Sanders in the all new X30 Laydown Class.

In addition to the many national classes on hand this weekend, the Roebling Road Nationals will also offer a plethora of Local Option classes, including:

Jacksonville, Thompson, Barnesville Headline 2017 Gold Cup Schedule

CONCORD, NC - World Karting Officials have recently released the 2017 national schedule for the RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series.

3 national events will define the series for 2017, with the first stop being the traditional venture to the popular 103rd Street Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Florida March 24-26. Run in conjunction with the North Florida Kart Club, the Water Medic Southeast Showdown will set the stage for what should be another great season for the top 4 cycle competitors in the country.

The Jacksonville event will also play host to the 2016 Year End Awards Presentation, which will be held at the track, following the Friday Practice Day. 2016 Champions will be honored with their traditional championship Eagles, as well as product from Bridgestone, RLV, Briggs & Stratton, and much more!! Many other recipients will be honored on that evening. Doors open at 6:45pm, with dinner at 7:15 and the awards presentation at 7:45. A full buffet dinner will be provided.

Once the series departs Jacksonville, the second stop will serve as a new venue for World Karting, as competitors will head to Thompson Kart Raceway in Ohio July 28-30 for the Summer Nationals. Headed by Doug Marsh and the Championship Kart Racing Association, WKA is excited to place the series on new soil for the Gold Cup program.

A change comes in the third and final venue, as the series will crown its Grand National Champions October 6-8 at Lamar County Speedway in Barnesville, Georgia. Recently, the Georgia Sprint Karting Association opened their doors for one of their first practice sessions of the season, with a plethora of new faces coming out for the season’s first crack at the fabled facility.

The format for this seasons events will be very similar to that of last season, with competitors participating in qualifying, 1 heat race, and a final each day. However, in 2017, awards will be issued on Day 2 ONLY, to the highest overall finisher of the classes they participate in, with the top 3 receiving awards. Kid Kart participants in both LO206 and 2 cycle will run together, but scored separately, with an award going to the overall winner in both categories, and participation medals going to the balance of entrants. The Kid Kart Class will not be a national class in 2017.

Both the traditional Gold Cup bodyworks, as well as CIK bodywork will be allowed in all classes for one more season. Simply stated, competitors may run a Gold Cup nose with a Gold Cup column fairing, or a CIK nose with a CIK column fairing.  Additionally, a CIK LO206 Senior Class has been added, for those wishing to run CIK Bodyworks solely.

Specs on wheels, tires, and seat rules have not changed from 2016.

Entry Fees for this season will be set at $85 per pre-entry, and $100 at the track for all national classes, with a 1 time practice fee of $60 with pre-entry, and $75 for any at track entry. Kid Kart competitors will pay $50 for their pre-entry, and $65 at the track, with Practice Fees set at the same price as well.

WKA has also incorporated a new Rookie Class for 2017, with the age group set at 6-9 years old. This being a national class affords parents of 6-9-year-old competitors a smooth transition from the Kid Kart Class.

Miles, Dorsey, Massimino, Jarsocrak Double Up in Jax Winter Cup / New Tech Update

CONCORD, NC - The WKA Winter Cup Series officially wrapped up the second national event of the season, with the ultra-long back stretch and technical turns of 103rd Street Sports Complex in Jacksonville serving as the battle ground for the series penultimate event, with the finale coming March 31-April 2 at Ocala Gran Prix.

Making the most of their weekends were Christian Miles, Jack Dorsey, Pauly Massimino, and Brandon Jarsocrak, all doubling up in the win category for the weekend. Dorsey’s wins came in the Comet Racing Engines Yamaha Junior Class both days, while Miles swept the action in the CRPRACING.com Mini Swift Class. Massimino mastered the Woltjer Racing Engines Pro IAME Junior class. And for Jarsocrak, his double success came in the KartSport North America Pro IAME Senior category. Here’s a look at the balance of the weekends winners.

3 classes found different winners both days, one of which was the CIK LO206 Senior class, in which Jacksonville veteran Sean Meier claimed the top honors on Day 1, turning back Daytona winner Corey Towles on the first day, with Hunter Fox, James VanDerZee, and Michael Clark rounding out the top 5. On Day 2, it was VanDerZee’s turn to stand atop the podium, topping Meier in the finale, with Towles, Fox, and Jorge Ruiz making up the top 5. Meier and Towles took the Comet Kart Sales Fast Time awards respectively.

The Allison Racing Engines Yamaha Sportsman class also found parity in the first position, with Garrett Adams and Sam Hinds sharing wins on the weekend. Adams fended off brother Logan Adams on the first day of action, with Hinds, Will Robusto, and Adam Maxwell completing the top 5. Hinds improved 2 notches in the order on Sunday, turning back Logan Adams, while Annie Rhule roared her way into a top 3 finishing position on the final day. Completing the top 5 were Garrett Adams and Adam Maxwell. Sebastian NG and Logan Adams were the Comet Kart Sales Fast Time winners for the weekend.

The beginning of a weekend sweep first came for Jack Dorsey in the Comet Racing Engines Yamaha Junior class, as Dorsey won a great battle with Bryce Aron on both days enroute to the sweep of weekend activities. The 2 drivers also split the Comet Kart Sales Fast Time awards for the weekend as well.

Christian Miles was the next candidate for a double event win for the weekend, taking the highly competitive CRPRACING.com Mini Swift class. After taking the Comet Kart Sales Fast Time award for Saturday, Miles proceeded to top Sebastian NG, Sam Corry, Jorge Ortiz, and Caleb Gafrarar. Miles had a little more work to do Sunday, wrestling the lead away from Comet Kart Sales Fast Timer Sofia D’Arrigo, then eventually fending off Gafrarar for the win, with Bryce Sanders improving from a 7th place run Saturday to finish third. D’Arrigo came home fourth with Ben Maier rounding out the top 5.    

The IAME USA East Pro Swift Sportsman class was also loaded with talent, with points leader Ashton Chilton taking down the Day 1 honors. Comet Kart Sales Fast Time winner Lucas Rodriguez came home second, followed by Annie Rhule, Tyler Wettengel, and Jeremy Fletcher. Day 2 found Brent Crews coming to life, sweeping the Comet Kart Sales Fast Time honors, as well as the win, topping Chilton, Rodriguez, Wettengel, and Garrett Adams.

Pauly Massimino was next in line to snare a pair of wins, taking the Woltjer Racing Engines Pro IAME Junior class, as well as the Comet Kart Sales Fast Time efforts both days. Massimino was trailed by Gray Leadbetter, Kaden Wharff, Isabella Robusto, and Alex Yankowski on Saturday, while Madison Campeau improved from 6th to 2nd on day 2, followed by Robusto, Leadbetter, and Gunner Bischoff.

Brandon Jarsocrak rounded out the Four Horseman who took double event wins, taking the KartSport North America Pro IAME Senior honors on day 1, followed closely by Comet Kart Sales Fast Time winner Ryan Raffa, Lance Fenderson, Abby McLaughlin, and Jonathan Yobaggy. On day 2, Jarsocrak fended off Fenderson, the Fast Time winner, with Raffa, McLaughlin, and Yobaggy making up the top 5.

With 2 events in the books, it’s down to the third and final event of the winter season to see who the 2017 Winter Cup Champions will be, as focus now turns to Ocala Gran Prix March 31-April 2.

Champions in all classes, with the exception of the ROK Shifter class, will receive a set of Bridgestone tires, as well as a free entry into one of the remaining four Bridgestone Manufacturer Cup Series events, those including Pittsburgh, New Castle, Wolf Paving Raceway, and GoPro Motorplex.

The ROK Shifter Winter Cup Champion will receive tires, fuel, oil, and a free entry into the ROK Cup USA Nationals in September in Orlando.

Additionally, any drivers in the Pro IAME Junior and Senior classes who participate in all 3 Winter Cup events will be eligible for a drawing for a trip in October to Lemans, France for the X30 International Finals. The drawing is open to drivers who have participated in all 3 events. Additionally, race and overall event winners from Daytona, Jacksonville and Ocala, will have their names placed in the drawing again, giving those drivers an even better chance to win the trip. Aside from the cost of travel, all other expenses will be paid.

Final Tier Deadline for Roebling Road National Approaching

CONCORD, NC - The deadline for pre-entries for the second race of the Dunlop/Xeramic National Road Race Series presented by Russell Karting is fast approaching. Competitors wishing to take advantage of the final pre-entry price for the Road Race Nationals at Roebling Road Raceway in Savannah, Georgia March 10-12 have until Tuesday March 7 to submit their entry. After that, At Track pricing will go into effect.

Pre-Entry Forms may be filled out by using MotorsportReg.com, which is available on the Southern Kart Club website, www.southernkartclub.com.

The weekend event at Roebling will also include the 2016 Year End Awards Presentation Friday March 10, being held this year at the Art Gallery at the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force, right on the track exit.

Doors to the function will open at 7pm, with dinner at 7:30 and the awards presentation beginning at 8pm. February Trustee Meeting Minutes Available Online

CONCORD, NC - The minutes of the first WKA Board of Trustees Conference for 2017 have been approved and are now online for review by the WKA Membership.

One of the many topics discussed were the results from the most recent edition of Daytona KartWeek, involving the Dunlop/Xeramic National Road Race Series, the Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup Series, and the WKA/Maxxis Speedway Dirt event.

The next Board of Trustees Meeting will be held in early March. Once approved, the minutes of that meeting will be made available to the membership online.

Women in Motorsport Commission Partners with CIK-FIA and Academy Trophy

CONCORD, NC - The FIA Women in Motorsport Commission (WiMC) is pleased to announce the renewal of partnership with the CIK-FIA. The aim is to designate one young female driver between 12 to 14 years old to be granted a kart out of the 51 allocated for the 2017 edition of the CIK-FIA Academy Trophy.

This Academy Trophy is a competition in which the equipment will be identical for everyone (Exprit-Vortex-Bridgestone), allocated by drawing lots and placed at the disposal of the participants free of charge. Although the Trophy is a genuine competition based on the usual format of international karting events (free practice, qualifying practice, qualifying heats and final phase), there will be an educational program for the drivers. This pedagogical program will address topics related to safety, the code of driving conduct on circuits, the anti-doping code, the patrimony of karting, and more.

It is the fifth year of an ambitious project in which the WiMC is working with the CIK-FIA. Drivers from all over the world will submit their resume to be part of this prestigious championship program.

Conditions of participation:

- Payment of a deposit of €600 (the season entry fees of €2,095 are taken care of by the WiMC)
- Provision, free of charge, of the paddock structure and provision of overalls and gloves by the CIK
- Provision, free of charge, of a complete kart by the official supplier designated by the FIA for the season (3 events and 1 day of official tests); except for the training tyres, fuel, service team and any damage to the equipment.

Criteria required by the Sporting Regulations

1) Year of birth: 2003 to 2005* (Article 14 of the Sporting Regulations attached)
2) The driver must hold a Grade C Junior International Karting Licence
3) Nationalities: all
4) Competition history: sporting CV to be submitted with the candidature
* Among the candidatures, priority will be given to drivers aged 12/13 years, in order to give them the opportunity to take part in two consecutive seasons.

Tier One Deadline for Roebling Road Race Nationals Feb 17

CONCORD, NC- Competitors gearing up for the second race of the season for the Dunlop/Xeramic National Road Race Series presented by Russell Karting, scheduled for March 10-12 at Roebling Road Raceway in Savannah, Georgia have just 1 week left to take advantage of the Tier 1 Pre-Entry pricing.

The deadline for Tier 1 is slated for Friday February 17. Between now and that date, competitors can take advantage of the $90 pre-entry price. After the 17th, the Tier 2 pre-entry pricing will move to $100 per class, with that deadline in place until March 7. After that, At Track pricing will kick in. Pre-Entry Pricing for the Cadet Class remains at $65 through both pre-entry tiers.

Those wishing to pre-enter for the event can either download the WKA Entry Blank, or fill out the pre-entry form using MotorSportReg.com, of which a link to the event page is available at www.southernkartclub.com. It is important to note that ALL entries are processed through the MotorSportReg.Com site, as no entries come to the WKA Office.

In addition to the Roebling Road Nationals, those wishing to attend the annual Year End Awards Presentation Friday March 10 need to fill out their Awards Banquet Reservation Form, and return it to the WKA Office as soon as possible.

This year’s awards presentation will be taking place at The Art Gallery at The National Museum of The Mighty Eighth Air Force, located right on the Pooler, Georgia exit, same as the track. The festivities will take place following Friday practice, with doors opening at 7pm, dinner at 7:30pm, with the awards presentation beginning at 8pm.

A full buffet dinner, catered by Barnes Restaurant and Catering will feature Green Salad with all dressings, Baked Boneless Chicken Breast with herb seasoning, Sliced Roast Beef, Green Beans, Mac and Cheese, Mashed Potatoes and Gravy, Rolls, Banana Pudding, Apple Cobbler, with Sweet and Unsweet Tea.

Results of Annual WKA Trustee Elections

CONCORD, NC- World Karting Association recently concluded its annual election process, tending to the needs of the 3 Districts that were up for re-election. The 3 Districts were the following;

District 2, representing the states of Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, and Mississippi

District 5, representing the states of Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia

District 8, representing the states of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania

WKA welcomes back Robby Harper of Pell City, Alabama, the new trustee in District 2. Harper, who has served on the WKA Board in previous years, still actively competes as a driver in the Dunlop/Xeramic National Road Race Series, also serving as Race Director at the annual KartWeek event in Daytona Beach, Florida. His time served as a driver, race director, and past trustee, completely enhances his ability to serve on the Board, as well as serve the needs of competitors and members in his district. Harper has designated Rob Hindery of St Augustine, Florida as his 4 Cycle Rep, while Robby Harper III of Pell City, Alabama will serve as the 2 Cycle Rep. Both gentlemen currently are competitors on the Road Race Series as well.

In District 5, Randall Lyles of Chilhowie, Virginia has retained his seat for another term. Lyles, a well-known and very well respected Tech Inspector in 4 Cycle racing, has a most extensive background in both the Dirt industry, as well as serving as part of the technical inspection team for the RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series. Lyles also brings a wealth of knowledge and respect in the form of his 2 and 4 Cycle Representatives, with Lynn Haddock of Chattanooga, Tennessee returning as the 2 Cycle Rep, and Brandon Taylor of Roanoke, Virginia again serving as Lyles 4 Cycle Representative.

Mike Tetreault of Warminster, Pennsylvania returns for another term as Trustee in District 8. In addition to his duties as Trustee in one of the quadrants of the northeast, Tetreault has also worked most diligently in the role as Treasurer for the organization. Tetreault has retained the services of Scott Ferris of Brick, New Jersey as his 2 Cycle Rep, while Zach Linsell, a well-respected Road Race and Gold Cup competitor from Pennsylvania will sign on as Tetreault’s 4 Cycle Rep.

The new board of trustees met via phone conference Tuesday February 7, discussing the most recent agenda items, including a most successful review of Daytona Kart Week. The minutes of the February meeting will be made available, upon approval by the board.

While the board is set for 2017, the rotational process of elections continues each year, with Districts 1, 4, 7, and 10 up for re-election in 2018. Here are the states that these 4 Districts represent.

District 1: Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota

District 4: Georgia, South Carolina

For those interested in becoming more involved with the organization as trustee, the first step in the process is to nominate qualified trustee candidates. You can participate by completing and returning the nomination ballot, which is mailed out to all WKA Master Members in good standing. The person nominated must be 18 years or older, and reside in the district for which they would like to represent.

The 3 members receiving the most nominations from each district will be asked to submit theircandidates for 2 and 4 Cycle Representative, providing a team of qualified people for which they feel will best represent the interests of the WKA Membership.

Individuals interested in the position will be placed on the official election ballot, along with their 2 and 4 Cycle representatives from their district. The ballots for valid Master Members are then sent to an independent accounting firm for membership verification. You will then have the opportunity to vote for the team in your district you believe to be the most qualified.

Deadline for Jax Winter Cup Feb 10

CONCORD, NC - The turn of the calendar into February also signifies the cranking up of kart engines for the second event of the season for the WKA Winter Cup Series. Competitors wishing to take advantage of the Pre-Entry pricing for the series 2nd stop at 103rd Street Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Florida have until Friday February 10. After that, the At Track Pricing kicks into effect.

The event, scheduled for Feb 24-26, will feature 8 national classes including;

Fast Time Awards will again be sponsored in the event by Comet Kart Sales, with the weekends overall winner receiving an award per class courtesy of Trinity Karting Group.

Fresh off his sweep of 4 cycle competition at Daytona, Corey Towles leads the CIK LO206 Senior class standings, with Zach Linsell, Hunter Fox, Dustin Demattia, and Mike Greiner the current top 5.

Garrett Adams comes into Jacksonville, holding the advantage over William Robusto, Mateo Rubio-Luengo, Anderson Leonard, and Logan Adams in the Allison Racing Engines Yamaha Sportsman Class, while Elliott Budzinski is the current top dog in the Comet Racing Engines Yamaha Junior class, with Tyler Ferris, Colin Neal, Emory Lyda, and Finnegan Bayliff the current top 5.

In the OTK Kart USA ROK Shifter category, Vicenzo Sarracino has a solid lead over Jonathan Kotyk, while Ryan Lewis, Michael Stevens, and Rory Van der steur make up the top 5.

While currently third in the Yamaha Sportsman class, Mateo Rubio-Luengo holds a comfortable margin over Caleb Gafrarar in the CRPRACING.com Mini Swift class, with Calem Maloney, Alex Powell, and Ben Maier the current top 5.

The IAME USA East Pro Swift Sportsman class finds Ashton Chilton atop the leader board, with Santiago Trisini, Elio Giovane, Lucas Rodriguez, and Anderson Leonard the current top 5 following Daytona.

Dylan Tavella will head to Jacksonville, sporting the edge over Zane Maloney in the Woltjer Racing Engines Pro IAME Junior class, with Pauly Massimino, Max Peichel, and Oliver Calvo the top 5, while AJ Myers holds the edge over Brandon Jarsocrak, Jonathan Kotyk, Braden Eves, and Austin McCusker in the KartSport North America Pro IAME Senior class.

As mentioned many times before, all champions, aside from the ROK Shifter champion, will receive a set of Bridgestone Tires, as well as a free entry to one of the remaining Bridgestone Manufacturer Cup Series events in 2017.

The ROK Shifter Champion will receive tires, fuel, oil, and a free entry into the ROK Cup USA Nationals in September in Orlando, Florida.

Additionally, drivers in the Pro IAME Junior and Senior classes who participate in all 3 Winter Cup events will be eligible for a drawing on Sunday April 2 at Ocala Gran Prix, site of the final Winter Cup event. The winner of the drawing will have the opportunity to travel to Lemans, France for the X30 International Finals in October. Winter Cup winners of each event will also have their name inserted in the drawing an additional time, providing more incentive for drivers to win and increase their chances to win the drawing. Aside from the travel expense, all other expenses will be paid for that weekends prestigious event.

Activities for the Jacksonville Winter Cup event get underway Friday March 24 with a full day of practice. Saturdays action features Qualifying, 2 Heat Races, and the Final, with Qualifying, 1 Heat Race, and a Final on Sunday to round out event 2 for the event.

Roebling Road Race Entry Blank Now Online

CONCORD, NC - Entry Information regarding the second event of the season for the Dunlop/Xeramic National Road Race Series presented by Russell Karting is now available online. As has been the case the last few years, competitors wishing to enter the Roebling Road Nationals March 10-12 at Roebling Road Raceway in Savannah, Georgia in advance may fill out the entry blank by using MotorsportReg.com. You can see the link to the event page on www.southernkartclub.com.  Entries DO NOT come to the WKA Office.  All entries are submitted to Southern Kart Club through MotorsportReg.com.

WKA and SKC Officials are anticipating another banner turnout of entries, coming on the heels of a most successful Daytona KartWeek, where entries far exceeded those of the previous year.

For competitors wishing to pre-enter, there are 2 tiers for entering, with the initial deadline coming February 17. Should competitors miss the initial pre-entry deadline date, the second deadline is March 7. After that, the At Track Pricing will go into effect.

Another added perk to the weekend is the annual Awards Presentation, being held this year at The Art Gallery at The National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force, located in Pooler, Georgia, just a few miles from the track, and adjacent to many of the hotels on I-95 in Pooler.

A full buffet dinner will be served with doors opening at 7pm Friday March 10. Dinner will be served at 7:30 with the awards presentation getting underway at 8pm. 2016 Champions, as well as many other special recipients will be honored on that evening. Seating is limited to 120 people. So be sure and make your reservations as soon as possible.

Help Needed for Hall of Famers

CONCORD, NC - WKA recently learned of some very challenging circumstances regarding 2 members of the Karting Family. For those that have been around the karting industry for many years, the name Ron Withrow may indeed ring a bell. 

Serving in a variety of capacities within the WKA organization, including that of Race Director and Officer for the organization on many different occasions spanning decades, Mr. Withrow and his wife Carma, both WKA Hall of Fame Members, Ron in 1991, Carma in 1996, have encountered some very rough circumstances.

While residents of Kentucky for many years, the Withrows also spend quite a bit of time in Sarasota, Florida. While in Kentucky recently, Ron fell and broke his ribs, spending up to a month in the hospital. During this time, adding insult to injury, heavy rains in Sarasota, Florida led to major roof issues, in which the complete interior of the home was destroyed by water damage.

Ron is retired, and on Social Security, which doesn’t allow for a quick repair of damaged items, as many in this position can well attest. This is a couple that has bled the WKA colors for many decades in a variety of capacities.

CONCORD, NC - The first national event of 2017 for the RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series received another good shot in the arm with the announcement of Water Medic of Cape Coral, Florida as the Official Race Sponsor for the Southeast Shootout March 24-26 at 103rd Street Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Florida.

Badger Kart Club Announces Multi-Year Partnership with Wolf Paving; Track Named Wolf Paving Raceway

DOUSMAN, WI – Badger Kart Club and Wolf Paving announced today a multi-year partnership t0 rename the historic track Wolf Paving Raceway. Wolf Paving will begin its tenure as naming rights partner on January 15, 2017 and become the second company to serve as track title sponsor in Badger Kart Club history, following Briggs & Stratton.

The Oconomowoc-based Wolf Paving is a third generation, family-owned paving contractor with locations throughout Southeastern Wisconsin. “We are very excited about partnering with Wolf Paving; both as the title sponsor of the track and on the expansion of our facility.” said club president Al Weisensel. “We are confident this new partnership will bring a heightened level of excitement for both the racers and spectators at our facility moving forward.”

CKI Takes Early Lead in Road Race Chassis Standings

CONCORD, NC - The latest edition of Daytona KartWeek was successful to many in so many ways, one of those being the folks at Competition Karting Inc. For many years, CKI has been the dominant chassis in Road Race competition. And following Daytona KartWeek, the Welcome, North Carolina chassis manufacturer is well on their way to reaching that same goal again in 2017.

At the conclusion of the first event of the season for the Dunlop/Xeramic National Road Race Series, presented by Russell Karting, CKI holds a commanding 14-win edge over the rest of the competition, as a result of their 18 victories in the season opener at Daytona.

While it’s a big gap from first to second in the standings, it’s a literal log jam from 2nd on back, with both MGM and Margay enjoying 4 wins apiece at the World Center of Racing. Elite Chassis wound up with 3 wins at Daytona, while Owl, CRG, Ital Kart, and Parolin claimed 2 wins apiece. Single national event wins also went to PVP, Praga, and Sodi Kart.

CKI looks to maintain their momentum March 10-12, when the series moves on to Roebling Road Raceway in Savannah, Georgia for stop #2 on the national program. Ironically, the stop also includes the series annual awards presentation at The Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum Friday March 10, following practice, where CKI will receive their 2016 Manufacturers Championship Award. Gold Cup Year End Awards Presentation Set & Final 2016 Points Now Available

CONCORD, NC - The 2016 Year End Awards Presentation for the RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series will again be run in conjunction with the season opening event for National 4 Cycle competitors March 24 at 103rd Street Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Florida, following Practice for the Southeast Showdown, stop #1 for the series in 2017.

10 Champions will be honored on that evening, with 2 of the 10 claiming double championships, that being Maryland’s Jacob Heavlow, the top dog in the Bordeaux Dyno Cams/Trackside Kart Supply Senior Pro Gas Heavy class, as well as the Coyote Motorsports/Jim’s Marine Senior Pro Gas Medium class. Ohio’s David Kalb Jr also had an incredible season in the 4 Cycle ranks, taking the Junior Pro Gas Lite title in 2017, as well as the Briggs & Stratton Junior Pro Gas Heavy top honors.

Jax Gold Cup Entry Blank Now Available Online! Southeast Showdown slated for March 24-26

CONCORD, NC - Competitors gearing up for a new season for the RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series can now view the entry info for the series 1st event of the 2017 season. The Southeast Showdown, slated for March 24-26 at 103rd Street Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Florida, will be yet another busy weekend, as competitors from the 2016 season will also be honored Friday evening following practice in the 2016 Awards presentation, with merchandise from RLV, Bridgestone, Briggs & Stratton, and much more to be handed out to the 2016 champions, as well as top finishers in their respective classes.

10 classes will make up the 2017 season for the National 4 Cycle Series, with the format very similar in 2017. Competitors will be running qualifying, a heat race, and final each day. However, awards will be given out on the final day only to the highest overall finisher in each respective class, with the top 3 receiving awards. The LO206 and 2 Cycle Kid Kart Classes, which will be combined, will run for a separate award for the winner over the weekend, with participation medals going to the balance of drivers in each engine category. The Kid Kart Classes will not be national points classes in 2017.

Entry Fees for the season will be set at $85 for Pre-Entry, and $100 at the track for all national points classes, with a 1-TIME PRACTICE FEE for the weekend set at $60 with your pre-entry, and $75 at the track. Kid Kart Competitors will pay $50 for their pre-entry, and $65 at track, with Practice Fees set at the same price for pre-entry and at track.

Deadline for pre-entries has been set for March 14th, giving competitors plenty of time to get their info straight for the 2017 season.

WKA and North Florida Kart Club Officials are excited to once again be starting the Gold Cup season off at 103rd Street, something that has become somewhat of an annual tradition.

2016 Road Race Awards Presentation Set

CONCORD, NC - Following a most successful Awards Presentation, combined with stronger numbers at the seasons second event in 2016 at Roebling Road Raceway in Savannah, Georgia for the Dunlop/Xeramic National Road Race Series presented by Russell Karting, WKA Officials are proud to announce the 2016 Awards Presentation will again be returning in March to the Savannah, Georgia area. The event will again be run in conjunction with the Roebling Road Nationals March 10-12, the second stop for the 2017 series.

Champions for the 2016 season, as well as many other award recipients and special honorees, will have a chance to reminisce on Friday March 10 at The Art Gallery at The National Museum of The Mighty Eighth Air Force. With an overflow crowd on hand last year, officials elected to move the awards presentation to a more spacious area, allowing for more attendees.

A full buffet dinner, catered by Barnes Restaurants and Catering, will be available, along with a Cash Bar, as alcohol will not be allowed to be brought into the hall.
