Commercial Point Racing Committee Announces 2019 Dates, Classes, Payouts and Awards

September 24, 2018 – The Commercial Point Racing Committee announced the dates, classes, payouts and awards for the 2019 Commercial Point Karting Classic. The Karting Classic will be held on the weekend of August 2nd, 3rd & 4th, 2019 with races being run on Saturday and Sunday. Once again, there will be a $10,000.00 guaranteed purse for the weekend, making the Karting Classic the richest street race in the entire United States.

For 2019, a 206 Junior Class has been added to the roster. This brings the total number of classes to 11 for the weekend. In addition to the professional racing action, there will also be a car show and free concert held in the center of town that weekend. The first go-kart race held on the village streets of Commercial Point was over 50 years ago, making the Karting Classic the oldest street race in the country.

Entry Form and Schedule Available for WKA Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup, Top Kart USA Grand Nationals

Series Concludes at GoPro Motorplex with Insights into the 2019 Campaign and Annual Membership Meeting

CONCORD, NC - Bringing a close to an amazing WKA Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup season, GoPro Motorplex in Mooresville, NC., will be the next stop for the popular series.  As one season comes to a close, WKA Officials will introduce elements that will be a part of the campaign’s 2019 season. 

Introducing new classes for 2019, WKA will offer those classes as Local Option Classes for GoPro.  LO206 Cadet and KA100 Junior will be added to the line-up all weekend to help racers prepare for the 2019 season.

Additionally, as announced by the Board of Trustees from their Summer Rules Meeting, WKA will install the push-back bumpers to 2019.  To help the racers prepare, the system will be required at the GoPro event, with no penalties.  Proven already in other series to help clean up driving craft, racers will get a taste of the system at the event to prepare for next year, with no penalties issued for infractions during this test.

“We are excited to see a ton of great racing at GoPro.” Stated WKA President Kevin Williams, “With Championships being decided, and adding some of next year’s features to help our members prepare for the new season, I expect the weekend to be a thriller.”

Finally, WKA will host its annual WKA Membership Meeting at the Mooresville facility, Friday, October 26 immediately following the Practice Schedule.

“As I’ve said from the beginning, I think it is important to keep our membership informed and to listen to their comments.” Continued Williams, “In addition to our regular Third Thursday Facebook Live broadcasts, the membership meeting is an important part of keeping the dialogue going.”

CONCORD, NC- With much anticipation surrounding the for the Maxxis Tires Daytona Dirt World Championship, WKA is pleased to announce Class Structures, Payouts, and Prizes for its 2018 Event.

CONCORD, NC - To give the drivers a new challenge when the WKA Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup ascends on the Newcastle Motorsports Park, for the Nitro Kart Newcastle Nationals, September 14-16, series organizers have elected to race Newcastle Configuration 40 for the event.

“Newcastle is such an amazing facility, with many configurations, we wanted to give our participants a new experience at this stapled facility.” Stated WKA President Kevin Williams, “We worked with the track to come up with a unique experience, with plenty of opportunities for action-packed racing, and configuration 40 offered those elements.”

KART / WKA Vega Road Race Summer Sizzle at Topeka

CONCORD, NC - Heartland Park was the 6th stop on the Vega Road Race series but this time WKA’s Robby Harper combined forces with KART’s Kelly Read and Jim Edgington to bring the Summer Sizzler to Topeka Kansas.  With these two-powerhouse karting organizations joining forces there was bound to be some good ole fashion racing to the checkered flag. This is just the second time that these two organizations have come together, the first being three years ago at NCM Motorsports Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky which proved to be very successful and like the first time this past weekend again did not disappoint .  Many WKA racers had never been to Heartland Park so practice day was used to familiarize themselves with all the turns and fine tuning their karts.  Of course, this track is old news for most KART members, so it was like saying hello to an old friend you hadn’t seen in quite a while.

With the combined effort of both karting groups, the numbers for the Sprint 125cc Shifter class did not disappoint as 15 racers came out to battle for the checkered flag.  Straight out of the gate Jared Langenfield led the 1st lap with Derek Proctor a close 2nd while Melvin Nelsen and Chase Pflughaupt battled for 3rd and 4th.   Unfortunately, around the 10-minute mark Jared Langenfield was unable to finish which Derek Proctor took full advantage of.  With his kart settling in and running well he was able to take the lead and keep it all the way to the winner’s circle with a full lap lead on 2nd place, Jeff Mills.  Melvin Nelsen, Tommy Plahitko and Jonathan Fairfield rounded out the top 5.  Derek Proctor also took home the 1st placed finish on Sunday in the Sprint 125cc Shifter class with another impressive 1 lap lead over 2nd place finisher Tommy Plahitko.

The Sprint B&S LO206 class also brought out 14 karters to the track all wanting to be the first to see the checkered flag waving.  Coming down the straight away on the 1st lap, Lindsey Simon and Chase Pflughaupt were paired up leading the charge while Cory Caswell, Buck Caswell and Richard Hoff were coming up strong in the 2nd pack.  These 5 continued to play cat and mouse for most of the race with Lindsey Simon leading the majority of the time.  At one point in the race the 2nd pack consisting of the Caswell’s and Richard Hoff broke the draft and made an impressive pass on the back straight-away over Lindsey Simon and Chase Pfughaupt.  This lead was short lived as Chase Pflughaupt took the checkered flag with only a 0.225 lead over Lindsey Simon, Luke Kannady, Jon Fairfield, and Brad Roberts brought up the rear with the 3rd, 4th, and 5th place finishes.

Sunday’s race in the LO206 class also brought lots of excitement to the track.  Lindsey Simon and Chase Pflughaupt were both out front at the beginning of the race but unfortunately Chase got caught up in some traffic between two other karts and lost quite a bit of ground.  He eventually chased down the lead pack, which consisted of Lindsey Simon, Cory Caswell and Buck Caswell.  Lindsey and Chase tried to break away but the Caswell’s caught back up to them and that is where they stayed until some lap traffic caused the Caswell’s to fall back.  From there Chase Pflughaupt stayed in the draft of Lindsey Simon until the finally straight away where he slings shot around her the take the win by less than second between them.

Even though the Sprint Tag Sr class only had 6 drivers Jamey Brown was a man on a mission.   He and Nick Martin jumped out to an early lead followed by Trenton Chrisco and Devin Chrisco. Jamey Brown was able to pull away and led the entire race. Even though Brown and Martin were in different classes they worked together until the end. Nick tried to draft past Jamey at the end but with his Fisher powered X30 he was able to hold Nick off at the line. Trenton Chrisco, Seth Urton, Devin Chrisco and John Brown rounded out the top 5.

 Sunday’s Sprint TaG Sr class also saw some action out on the track.  Jamey Brown was able to shoot off the grid and instantly had a 6 second lead early in the race. Once again, he and Nick Brown were able to work together to keep ahead of the rest of the pack even though they were in 2 different classes.  Jamey Brown eventually broke away from Nick Martin but was still able to keep the 6 second lead over 2nd place Trenton Chrisco.  With 3 laps to go Jamey saw a little off-road action as he tried to avoid a lap kart in turn 10.   As he re-entered the track he immediately noticed that he had broken the brake rod.  2nd and 3rd were able to pass him but he had just enough time to run them down and get by them for the win. Thank goodness you don’t need a lot of brakes at Heartland Park says Jamey Brown!

I’ve decided to add a driver highlight section to the race reports so that we can all learn a little more about each other.  This race highlights Derek Proctor of Tulsa, Oklahoma.  Derek has raced for 8 years starting in kid karts when he was 5 years old with the help of his grandpa, Jim Stroud who is well known in the karting world for building some mean engines.  He then decided to stop racing to concentrate on baseball.  Derek returned to racing his freshman year of high school, running the Yamaha 4 hole can just at the local Tulsa Kart Club races.  He eventually moved into the TAG class running for Rodney Berryhill and Champion racing out of Norman, Oklahoma.  He also ran the Texas Pro Kart Challenge for 2 1/2 years and competed in the SKUSA Supernationals in 2015.  Derek just recently made the switch to the Praga Kart thanks to Trei Smith and Tanda Racing, his full-time promoter and sponsor. He is currently competing in the 125cc shifter class running both modified and Stock Honda with the help of the Brian Fisher motors, which delivers tremendous horsepower and speed. Derek says that he wouldn't be where he is today without the support of his mom, Janie Proctor, his grandpa, Jim Stroud and stepdad Drew Hockenson. He is excited to keep moving forward with Trei Smith and Praga and looks to return to many KART/WKA events while competing full time in the Rok Cup in 2019!

The Passing of Mark Taylor

It is will great sadness that we email our karting members today.  Mark Taylor was very well known and respected in our karting community and often worked for WKA at our national races and at Daytona Kartweek.  We would like to pass this newsletter onto you from our friends at the Woodbrige Kart Club which includes a message from Mark's family:

As most of you have heard we at WKC have lost one of our very own. I received the call from Brandon Taylor on Friday telling me of this very sad news. He and I talked about a posting to FB and I wanted the family to tell me their wishes.

As the family states below. Mark was a incredible person and I will never forgot him. The personal friendship that he and I had was awesome. He always had encouraging words for me and my family.

He will be deeply missed by many and especially his extended family here at WKC. I know right now he has his foot down on the pedal and hands on the steering wheel wheeling that go kart around the track.

Family statement....
Family, friends, and entire karting community;

It is with the deepest regret that we inform you all of the passing of our father, Mark Taylor. He passed away peacefully while sitting in his home in Manassas on August 9. 2018. We appreciate everyone’s thoughts and prayers during this time and, like most of you, are going to miss him greatly. Dad was living life fully until his unexpected death and loved being at a racetrack and being around people. He was especially proud of us but was even prouder and happiest when he was around his three granddaughters.

To each of you who meant something to Dad, thank you. He has made countless friends in his journey through karting and the stories he could tell were priceless. We thank you for helping to make those wonderful memories that we will never forget.

Dad was devoted to his fiancé Trina, his dog Ovi, and the rest of his family. He was a man with a kind heart that will be missed by everyone. We hope to see you at the visitation and/or funeral service.

WKA 2019 Tech Manual Ads Now Being Accepted

Enhanced Pricing and Added New Advertising Opportunities For 2019

Now that the WKA Board of Trustees have updated the contents of the WKA Tech Manual for 2019, the association has opportunities for Karting Industry partners to get exposure in 2,500 copies of the 2019 Tech Manual, with enhanced pricing and new advertising opportunities for the new year.

“We looked at the way we were presenting the Tech Manual ads to our partners, and thought, ‘Let’s really give them new opportunities this year’.” stated WKA’s President Kevin Williams, “So we reduced the pricing from previous years and added a couple new bits to help the Industry gain new exposure.  The Office Team can even design custom packages based on the partner’s needs.”

New for the 2019 edition is simpler pricing structures at reduced rates from previous years, additional places to advertise that were not available before, and a whole new item to be included with the Tech Manual mailing…a 2019 Wall Calendar for karters to hang in their home, garage, or office.

WKA DAYTONA KARTWEEK NOMINATED FOR BEST SPORTS EVENT OF 2017

August 9, 2018 – As one of the most anticipated events on any karters calendar, the World Karting Association (WKA) Daytona KartWeek is a must attend for North American teams and drivers and just today, the event was nominated for the Best Sports Event of 2017. Nominated by the readers of SportsTravel for a 2018 SportsTravel Award, the WKA organization was the only motorsports organization of any kind that received a nod.

“Wow!” expressed Kevin Williams, President of the WKA. “We pride ourselves on good racing and putting on great events so receiving a nomination of the stature, really shows how much effort our staff puts into our events. Our goal is to ensure that every team and driver leaves at the events conclusion with a smile and wanting to come back the following year.”

With voting open until August 15th, 2018, the WKA Daytona KartWeek event can be found on the awards ballot that appears at www.SportsTravelAwards.com. The WKA Daytona KartWeek can be seen on the ballot in two separate divisions:

WKA Mourns the Loss of Pete Michel

Pierre “Pete” Jules Michel, 70, passed away unexpectedly on August 3rd, 2018 at his home in Perry, Georgia. Pete’s funeral service will be held on Friday August 10th, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home, 417 S. Houston Lake Road Warner Robins, Ga 31088.

Pierre Michel was born on July 21st, 1948 in Manchester, New Hampshire to the late Eugene and Marie-Jeanne Michel.

Pete has been widely known in the karting industry beginning with the opening of Michel’s Kartway, Inc. on October 1st, 1967 in Miami, Florida. Pete started racing himself in 1958 and building motors for other racers since 1967. On March 12th, 2016 Pete was inducted in the World Karting Association’s Hall of Fame. He has since passed down his love of racing to his children, Matthew and Ashley Michel.

Pete is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Michel; Children: Collette Baglia, Matthew Michel, Ashley Michel, Tina Romaine, Teri Rionda (George). Grandchildren: Kayla Rionda, Geovanni Romaine, Nicole Romaine, Victor Romaine, Noah Romaine and Jordan Rionda. Siblings: Andy Michel and Paul Michel (Cookie).

CONCORD, NC - Giving back to the racers once again, WKA has brought new enhancements to the upcoming Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup Event at Newcastle, September 14-16 that will surely appeal to a vast array of Karters.
 
New Title Sponsor
Continuing with their rapid growth, Nitro Kart has stepped up as title sponsor of the event, now known as the Nitro Kart Fall Nationals.  In their 2+-year existence, Nitro Kart has already covered podiums all around the country. 
 
“WKA has been great friends of Nitro Kart since their existence a few short years ago,” stated Kevin Williams, WKA’s President, “We are thrilled to help them expand their presence with this title sponsorship, and thankful for their continued support and participation of the various WKA Programs.  I encourage anyone to stop by their paddock during the event.  They’d be happy to talk to racers about their programs.”
 
Local Option LO206 Cadet Added
In preparation for the class to be added Nationally in the 2019 Manufacturers Cup, LO206 Cadet has been added as a Local Option at Newcastle.  The class will run the same schedule as the National Classes, with Friday Practice, and Races both Saturday and Sunday.
 
Electric Karting Series Added on the East Track
Continuing its support of the Collegiate and High School Electric Karting Series, WKA will be bringing the program to Newcastle, running parallel with the Manufacturers Cup Event.  The Series will Practice Friday and Race Saturday on Newcastle’s East Track. 
 
TV Production for Manufacturers Cup
Stadium View Network will return the film the Manufacturers Cup Race Weekend, Saturday and Sunday, filming the finals to air on their distribution network, made up of over 6,000 restaurants, sports bars and entertainment venues across the country; some LIVE and some recorded playback.  More information to follow.
 
Special Pricing Returns for Yamaha Sportsman and Yamaha Senior Classes
For the second event this year, WKA extends special pricing to enter the Manufacturers Cup event at Newcastle for basically the cost of race tires.  Yamaha Sportsman only pay $195 for the weekend, while Yamaha Senior drivers will only pay $415.

Michel Puts the Icing on the Cake at VIR/Updated Points Now Posted

CONCORD, NC - With rain in the forecast many were wondering if they would even get to race at Virginia International Raceway, but that didn’t seem to stop the dedicated racers from showing up and bringing their (A) game.  As we entered into the 5th race of the season at VIR many had never raced at this track and were excited to see what it had to offer.

Since this is only the 2nd time WKA has ran at this track in quite some time, here is a little background.  Virginia International Raceway originally opened August 3, 1957 but closed in 1974 and then reopened in March of 2000.   VIR offers six track configurations, of which two can be run simultaneously. The "Full Course" is 3.27 miles in length while the "Patriot Course" stretches for 1.1 miles entirely inside the Full Course. The "North Course" is 2.25 miles long and the "South Course" covers a distance of 1.65 miles. Both consist of a portion of the "Full Course" and short connecting sections that connect to portions of the "Patriot Course" to produce the two courses that can run simultaneously.

After a full day of practice and fine tuning many racers felt prepared for the next 2 days of racing.  Some came with brand new karts never to have touched a race track and others came with seasoned karts ready to take home 1st place. 

Starting out in the 1st race of the day was the CIK LO206 Sr class which brought 14 racers to the grid.  One particular racer who made a special appearance in this race was Woodbridge Kart Club’s very own president Rodney Smith.  He, along with the father/son duo of Clark Gaynor Sr and Jr, Greg Heberle, and Scott Clark made up the lead pack for this class.  A few laps later JC Sanders had made his way up to the pack while Gaynor Sr fell back to the 2nd pack along with Mark McNaught, Todd Horton and Jon Tedder. These 2 groups continued to battel for position through out the entire race.  In the end Clark Gaynor Sr. took home the 1st place finish on Saturday but came in 5th on Sunday’s race.  Jon Tedder came in a close 2nd along with Scott Clark, Clark Gaynor Jr. and Greg Heberle rounding out the top 5.

The Yamaha Sportsman Heavy class brought some tough competition with the likes of Randy Fulks, Matt Michel, Chad Dokken, and Bill Holder.  With Matt Michel leading in points, he was going to do whatever it took to take home the 1st place finish to make sure he stayed on top.  Starting out Fulks, Dokken, Clark and Michel drove away from the rest of the class.  About halfway through the race Clark fell out and came in with an 8th place finish.  That left Fulks, Dokken and Michel heading up the lead pack.  Throughout the race the lead changed several times between Randy Fulks and Chad Dokken but in the end the Fulks pulled out the win with a 1 sec lead over Dokken with Michel bringing home a 3rd place finish.

IAME Sprint class also brought a large number of racers to VIR.  There were 14 racers that would battle for the 1st place finish.  Clark Gaynor Jr would be fighting on his own in this race as Sr did not race.  Gaynor Jr would battle the lead pack which consisted of Robert Wimmer, Greg Heberle, Walter Troup, Sebastian Bushney, Chase Speacht, and Indy Kassy.  By the halfway mark the lead pack had dwindled down to only 5 with Gaynor Jr. still leading the way.  He would go on to win the race by one tenth of a second over Robert Wimmer. Heberle, Bushney, and Speacht rounded out the top 5.

The WKC Vintage Open (LO) class also brought an impressive 12 racers to the grid.  As soon as the green flag dropped Louis Mageria took off like The Flash and ran away with the lead.  He continued to dominate all the way to a 1st place finish with a 12 sec lead over 2nd place Rodney Garrison.  Phillip Copeland, Arthur McKenny and Terence Armstrong rounded out the 5 top for the LO class.

The Yamaha Sportsman Medium class also brought out a whopping 15 racers ready to take the checkered flag.  Coming into the 5th race of the Vega Road Race Series racer Justin Greene was leading the class points with a 200-point lead over 2nd place Donald Dump.  The lead pack was soon established with the veteran racers of Randy Fulks, Chad Dokken, Matt Michel and Zack Clark on the lap one.  Throughout the race there were a few lead changes between Fulks and Dokken with Clark and Michel battling in the 3rd and 4th positions.  With only a few laps to go the 3 main contenders continued to be Fulks, Dokken and Michel.  Then on the last lap Michel and Dokken teamed up to pass Fulks which helped Michel go on to take the Checkered flag and Fulks and Dokken coming in 2nd and 3rd. Matt would walk away with three 1st place finishes, one 2nd place finishes and one 3rd place finish for the weekend.

This win for the Matt Michel was just the icing on the cake for the Pete Michel racing team as it was the patriarch’s 70th birthday on Saturday. The name Pete Michel has been synonymous with the karting industry for many decades. Pete himself started racing in 1958 and then started building motors for other racers in 1967.  He has since pass down his love of racing to his children Matt and Ashley.   They too have added many wins to the racing team and tradition will continue when Pete himself starts racing again in the Vintage Sprint class in the near future.

The last race of the day featured Stock Honda and TaG Heavy which brought in an impressive 30 go karts to the International Raceway.   The lead pack consisting of Torres, Rothenhoefer, Waddell, Harding and Bushney made their presence know as they pulled away from the rest of the Stock Honda class.  The top four continued to battle through out the race leading Pascal Torres to a 1st place finish. He finished the weekend with two 1st place wins both in Stock Honda.  Rothenhoefer, Waddell, Harding and Eller rounded out the top 5 positions.

TaG Heavy also proved to be a class of warriors with 16 racers ready to do battle.  As the racers took off at the drop of the green flag, Brad Adams, Indy Kassy, and Robert Wimmer quickly made their presence known by pulling out to take the lead.  John Bryant and Ashley Michel quickly followed suit.   Adams continued to hold onto the lead all the way to a 1st place finish.  He would also take home the win in TaG Heavy on Sunday.  Wimmer, Bryant, Michel, and Sircy would finish out the top five for this class.

Meeting Minutes of the Trustees' Annual Rules Meeting

CONCORD, NC - Although still reviewing a few rules, the Trustees held their annual face-to-face meeting to review the regulations in the WKA Tech Manual for 2019.  The intention is to get the book out earlier than in past years, as a benefit to the members.

Here  are some of the highlights that will take affect in 2019:

 - 2019 Manufacturers Cup Dates, Venues, and Classes

 - Kid Karts have been added to Daytona 

 - More flexible event requirements and points structure for Manufacturers Cup

 - Revise Camera Mounting Regulations on Karts to help racers

 - Addition of the Push-Back Bumpers in Manufacturers Cup

 - Clearer definition of Competition Age

 - Clearer definition of some Road Race Classes

“Maxxis Tires Named the Official Tire of the Daytona Dirt World Championships”

CONCORD, NC- Continuing their pledge to keep their members informed in a timely manner, the World Karting Association, together with Goldspeed USA, are pleased to announce a 3-year partnership for the use of the Maxxis Dirt tire for the Daytona Dirt World Championships, beginning this December. 

“This is a huge announcement for the dirt Industry, letting people know what is happening over the next 3 years,” stated WKA President Kevin Williams, “Rather than keeping the dirt oval racers in the dark each year with our tire announcement, we felt it imperative to give the racers our commitment to them for 3-years.  Goldspeed is a great partner and we look for forward to working with them.”

“WKA’s three-year commitment to the Maxxis brand for their speedway dirt program will produce great rewards for the future of kart racing.  Goldspeed USA is happy and honored to be part of the prestigious event at Daytona,” stated Goldspeed USA’s Patti Owens.

WKA ANNOUNCES SCHEDULE, CLASS STRUCTURE WITH FRESH IDEAS FOR THE 2019 SEASON

July 17, 2018 – Being prepared and proactive to help its members, the World Karting Association (WKA) Manufacturers Cup program is pleased to announce their 2019 racing schedule and class structure along with a new point program as they prepare for the future. Taking the customers travel planning and costs of racing into consideration, a six race schedule over eleven months provides teams and competitors with a great platform.

“We have been working hard to not only finish our 2018 program strong, but also plan for our 2019 racing season,” explained WKA President Kevin Williams. “We want to provide our customers the opportunity to plan well in advance, thus being able to save on travel costs and put the Manufacturers Cup schedule on their upcoming calendar.”

Kicking the season off as always in Daytona Beach in December, the series will then make their trek Northward to Mooresville, North Carolina in March. The third event weekend of the series will be schedule in Dousman, Wisconsin in May while the same can be said about the June event in Wampum, Pennsylvania. Making a return trip to Norway, Illinois in August, the Manufacturers Cup will conclude with their Grand Nationals at the famed New Castle Motorsports Park in October.

The 2019-point structure will start at a base of 200 points with 20 bonus points available for both Daytona and New Castle event weekends. The per entry bonus points have been removed for 2019. The change in the point structure will also allow competitors to drop two full event weekends, allowing them to be flexible with their 2019 racing schedule. 

Williams added, “In the past, the series forced racers to compete on a more strict structure. The new approach allows more flexibility for WKA Members to select the dates and venues that work best for them, without much penalty, and still have fighting chances in Championship Points. Coming to the end of the season at our Grand National in New Castle, a racer from the Northeast can meet their competitor from the Midwest to race for the Championship.”

“The 2019 WKA Manufacturers Cup class structure has also been altered,” explained Williams. “Our thought process is to offer venues, dates, and classes that are popular among WKA's membership base to better serve the WKA Members. The points/drop schedule allows racers to tailor their competition year with more flexibility on the calendar and the locations we are visiting. This was a great effort of contributions from our Competition Committee, made up of strong industry experts, which include Chuck Gafrarar, Bill McLaughlin, Eric Jones, Pat Slattery, Jamie Sieracki, and Nick Tucker.”

The 2019 WKA Manufacturers Cup class structure will include IAME Micro Swift and Mini Swift as well as the 206 Cadet program. For the junior ranks, competitors will have the choice to compete in KA100 and IAME Junior while Senior competitors will have the same option in KA100 Senior and IAME Senior. Looking out for the future of the sport, WKA will also offer the Kid Kart category at all event weekends, which includes Daytona, while the Ignite “Dash at Daytona” will return to Daytona this year.

Other notable enhancements to the Manufacturers Cup Program is the return of tire sales back to our valued industry retail partners and shops, starting with the first event of the year at Daytona.  Also new for 2019 is the implementation of the push-back bumper program, with video review officiating available for the new regulation.

IAME KA100 Senior Throwdown Sword Award Returns

CONCORD, NC - After a short hiatus from the National Karting Scene, the popular KA100 Throwdown returns, July 14 and 15 at Concept Haulers Speedway in Sheridan, IL.  WKA, together with Franklin Motorsports, will host the competition during the fourth stop of the 2018 Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup.  In additional to huge bragging rights that comes with this historical event, KA100 Senior Drivers will fight for a cash purse of up to $800 Saturday, July 14, and the all-important, one-of-a-kind  Throwdown Sword Award Sunday, July 15.  Previous editions have treated spectators to amazing racing, and this year's edition will certainly not disappoint.  

WKA President Kevin Williams added, “The IAME KA100 Throwdown Sword was a popular award that drivers strived for in Midwest competition. I think it is important that we renew this special award and provide some fun for our senior level drivers. Offering cash awards for KA100 Senior drivers on Saturday, the premier field will race for ‘The Sword’ on Sunday in an all-out wheel-to-wheel battle.”

“I am happy to bring KA100 Throw Down and the Sword back into competition,” explained Franklin Motorsports’ Jamie Sieracki. “Not that the Sword has any monetary value, but the bragging rights of winning this award is priceless.”

In Saturday’s competition, KA100 Senior drivers will be shooting for:

First Place - $200.00

Fastest Lap - $100.00

Oldest Entered Driver - $100.00

Youngest Entered Driver - $100.00

Prior to the main event, a random draw for a kart number entered for the weekend will take place. If your number is drawn, that driver will receive an automatic $50.00. If that kart number wins the race, the driver will also receive a $250.00 bonus on top of their $200.00 winner’s purse.

WKA will be offering its temporary membership once again for the balance of the 2018 season. For only $20.00 for any person who has not been a member in the last twelve months or have not been a member in the past. At the conclusion of the event, any temporary members can become a WKA member can apply the $20.00 fee to a full membership.
