Gearing up for WKA’s 45th edition of Daytona International Speedway Kartweek, World Karting has made all three event registration platforms available concurrently. With great interest in this year’s Daytona Kartweek already buzzing, Officials felt it was important to get the important details out to the racers. As always, WKA Membership is required to participate at Daytona Kartweek.

Entries for Speedway is available online, through the Speedway Dirt Page at www.worldkarting.com The specified tires for all classes will be Maxxis HT3. Much of the ManCup has been enhanced for 2020. We have added the Rok Cup Classes and enhanced the race format. Here are a few reminders to help during the registration process;

Most importantly, ManCup PRIZE PACKAGES will be announced in the next couple of days!

• Early Bird Discounts are available for racers registering by November 27. Tiered Pricing will be employed after November 27, with the next pricing level cutting off December 10. After December 10, “at-track” registration pricing will take affect.

• Qualifying Order for all classes will be determined by order of Pre-Entry only. Drivers who pre-entered first will be lined up for Qualifying first, and so on.

• Due to lack of participation in 2019, IAME X30 Senior will NOT be offered at Daytona

WKA Announces 2020 Vega Tires National Road Race Schedule

45th Year at Daytona Kartweek, and A Long-Awaited Return to Mid-Ohio Top the Highlights

CONCORD, NC - After tireless planning by WKA Officials and the Road Racing Competition Committee, WKA is pleased to announce its 2020 Schedule for the Vega Tires National Road Racing Series, for points in WKA National Classes. A bit of a break from the norm, WKA racers will enjoy bringing back a couple old track friends, coupled with the traditional regulars, and a few surprises along the way.

Topping the 2020 campaign is the return to Daytona International Speedway for WKA’s 45th visit to the facility for Kartweek, December 28-30, 2019. After that, WKA makes its regular stop at Roebling Road with the Southern Kart Club, March 6-8. A change to the date brings the series to the second annual WKA Charlotte Motor Speedway Karting Challenge, also serving as the WKA Grand National for 2020, where the entire Roval has been reserved for Road Racers, April 17-19. May brings a second return to the Gateway Motorsports Park with host CES, May 8-10, as well as an affiliation with long-time partner Woodbridge Kart Club, with a stop at Summit Motorsports Park, May 29-31. Mid-Summer brings a long-awaited favorite to the calendar, where WKA will return to Mid-Ohio, June 19-21, thanks to an agreement with the DART Kart Club and AKRA. A trip up north is slated on the schedule with a visit to Grattan Raceway with CES, July 10-12. KART hosts the August round at Heartland Motorsports Park in Topeka, August 14-16. After a well-deserved late-summer break, WKA will once again join hosts DART and AKRA in a new-for-WKA event, for the final round at Pitt Raceway Park, September 25-27.

WKA Eagle awarded to race winners at New Castle Motorsports Park to close out 2019 Championship Program

CONCORD, NC - The sixth and final event of the 2019 World Karting Association Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup Series took competitors to the New Castle Motorsports Park for the Top Kart Grand Nationals. The coveted WKA Eagle trophy was awarded to the 16 winners on the weekend, with the final points collected for those gunning for a WKA championship. Rain affected Friday practice with full sunshine be it with colder temperatures hitting the New Castle, Indiana area for the two days of racing. Five drivers were able to double up on the weekend in their respective classes around the ‘40’ configuration layout of NCMP.

One driver was able to earn three WKA Eagle trophies on the weekend – Panama driver Sebastian Ng. Two came in the Briggs 206 Cadet class after what was a great battle all weekend by the 12 drivers entered. Fresh off a Cup Karts North America title the weekend before, Aryton Grim (Nitro Kart) set the fast time in qualifying, edging out Ng (Nitro Kart) by five thousandths of a second. Christopher McKeithan (Nitro Kart) was third, only 72 thousandths off, but came away with the wins in both heat races. After leading the opening lap, McKeithan was shuffled down to 10th. Ng took over and led the remaining 13 laps for the victory. Championship leader Spencer Conrad (Nitro Kart) came 63 thousandths short at the line from taking the win from Ng. Julian DaCosta (Haase) was third with McKeithan fighting back up to fourth ahead of Grim. Ben Maier (Nitro Kart) took control on Sunday, setting fast time in qualifying and winning the Prefinal. He led the first 13 laps of the Final until Ng took control. From there, Ng led the remaining laps to sweep the main events with Conrad off by 65 thousandths in second. Caleb Tarter (Nitro Kart) moved up to third, dropping Maier to fourth with McKeithan in fifth. When the drops were calculated, Maier secured the championship over Conrad by 35 points with McKeithan in third.

Sebastian Ng was able to complete Saturday’s round of racing with a two WKA Eagle trophies. The second came in the Mini Swift division. Ng (Nitro Kart) set fast time in qualifying and won Heat #1 before placing third in Heat #2 behind Ben Maier (Nitro Kart) and Austin Jurs (Merlin). In the Final, NG jumped out to the lead and led 13 of the 14 laps for the victory. Championship leader Adam Brickley (Nitro Kart) advanced up to second with Jurs finishing third. The same names were in the hunt on Sunday as Brickley recorded the fast time in qualifying and Ng winning the Prefinal. In total, six different lead changes took place in the 18-lap Final, with Brickley able to secure the victory with a last lap pass. He held off Jurs at the line by 24 thousandths with Maier finishing third. Brickley’s win more than locked up the championship with Maier in second and Jurs in third.

The KA100 divisions – Senior and Junior – were swept on the weekend. Sam Cate, a NCMP local driver, led the way in the KA100 Senior category both days. Cate (Tony Kart) led all sessions on Saturday and was trailing Brian Rettig (FA Kart) for the first nine laps in the Final. After taking the lead on lap 10, Cate went on to score the victory. Rettig settled for second with Andrew Patterson (Tony Kart) in third. Cate nearly went wire-to-wire on Sunday, leading 11 of the 12 laps in the Prefinal for the win before showing the way the entire Final for his second victory on the weekend. Rettig was second once again with championship contender Brad Brittin (Merlin) in third. Brittin came up short of the title, finishing second in the standings as Alexander Kardashian (Top Kart) earned the title. Nate Dean (Top Kart) ended the season in third.

Westin Workman entered the weekend trailing Adam Maxwell in the KA100 Junior championship standings. Earning maximum points over the two rounds is all Workman could do on his end to help his title hopes. He did just that, sweeping the weekend. Workman set fast time in qualifying and won both heat races on Saturday before leading 13 of 14 laps for the main event victory. Tyler Wettengel (FA Kart) led one lap, and settled for second while Maxwell (Top Kart) won the battle for third. Workman led all day on Sunday, never relinquishing the top spot through the Qualifying, Prefinal and Final sessions for his third victory of the season. Gavin Griffin (Tony Kart) posted fast lap of the race to earn the runner-up spot in his 2019 WKA debut with Wettengel winning the fight for third over Maxwell. The results on the weekend were enough for Maxwell to earn the class championship by 40 points over Workman with Wettengel ending the season in third.

John Burke was able to double up in his 2019 WKA debut in the X30 Junior division. Qualifying on Saturday was the lone session that Burke (Tony Kart) did not finish in the P1 position. Title contender Nathan Nicholson (Tony Kart) was awarded the top spot in qualifying after Adam Maxwell (Top Kart) was penalized in the session for a pushback bumper penalty. Burke was classified second in the session, and went on to win both heat races and the main event by 13 seconds. Mateo Rubio-Luengo (Tony Kart) was second in his 2019 WKA debut with Maxwell finishing third. It wsa Rubio-Luengo that challenge Burke on Sunday. Burke set fast time in qualifying before the two fought for the win in the Prefinal. Burke came away with the win and carried that momentum to go wire-to-wire in the Final. Anderson Leonard (Tony Kart), making his Junior debut, drove to second with Danny Dyszelski (Tony Kart) in third for his debut in the category. In the title chase, Hayden Jones (Tony Kart) completed the season as series champion ahead of Nicholson and Maxwell.

Holden Harder was able to add to his win total for the 2019 season in the Kid Kart class, winning both main events. Saturday was a sweep of the action, holding the P1 position in all the sessions. Harder was able to come away with a four-second advantage in the main event. Adam Wooldridge and Carson Benjamin stood on the podium with Calvin Quinn and point leader Jacob Schaible completing the top-five. Benjamin broke up the perfect score for Harder, earning fast time in qualifying on Sunday while Wooldridge won the Prefinal. It was Wooldridge that took the checkered flag in the Final, however, he was removed from the results after tech. That promoted Harder to the top spot of the podium. AJ Stoner had his best finish of 2019 in second with Colton McQuade in third. Schaible was classified fourth with Jordon Pulchlopek in fifth. Harder’s victories also gave him the series championship, with Schaible back by 30 points and McQuade in third.

Two drivers split the win in the Micro Swift category, with one earning her first and another adding to the season total. Championship contenders Hoyt Mohr and Spencer Conrad set the tone for much of the day with Mohr (Nitro Kart) the top qualifier and Conrad (Nitro Kart) winning both heat races. Conrad led the majority of the main event with the closing laps a mad dash for the top spot. Ava Hanssen (Merlin) took the lead from Conrad and fell back to third at the white flag before knifing her way to the checkered flag first to earn her first of the season. Christopher McKeithan (Nitro Kart) came two hundredths short with Austin Olds (Top Kart) joining them on the podium. Conrad ended up fourth with Caleb Tarter (Nitro Kart) in fifth. Hanssen carried that momentum over to Sunday to begin as the top qualifier. She came 49 thousandths short of the Prefinal win with Ayden Patty (Nitro Kart) earning the top spot. Conrad stepped up in the Final, moving into the lead on lap two and holding the position the remainder of the race. Olds was on his bumper the entire time, coming up just six hundredths short at the line. Levi Copass (CRG) gained his first podium finish of the season in third ahead of Tarter and Hanssen. Conrad earned five victories on the season to claim the championship. Mohr finished second with Olds ending the season in third.

A Briggs 206 Senior local option class was added to the schedule and boosted 19 entries to be the largest division of the weekend. The main events were split by Andrew Patterson and Evan McCorquadale. Patterson was able to score the victory on Saturday, beating top qualifier Cayden Young to the line. Heat #1 winner Mason Piper drove to third with Jacob Smith and McCorquadale completing the top-five. Patterson came up short on Sunday, as McCorquadale drove to the victory in the 18-lap main event. Keegan Clark joined them on the podium in third while Young and Piper finished fourth and fifth.

The WKA Manufacturers Cup Series closes out the 2019 season and now looks toward the 2020 season with a new schedule structure, new weekend formats and new classes bringing on a new era for the tenured program. The new period begins at the annual Daytona KartWeek at the Daytona International Speedway in Florida, with the 45th anniversary of the inaugural event inside ‘The World Center of Racing’.

WKA Announces 2020 National Sprint Racing Programs

Complete Revamp Allows for More Classes and New Venues

In a new approach to provide a place for most all National Sprint Racers, WKA has gone outside the box to introduce its 2020 National Sprint Racing Programs, while introducing a two-race Florida Winter Cup Series, National Kid Kart Program, and the already-announced WKA America Grand National Event.
 
Race Format
As mentioned in previous announcements, the race format for WKA National Sprint Racing Programs will highlight single event Champions for all classes.
 
            Day 1 – Free Practice, followed by Happy Hour Qualifying Practice
            Day 2 – Heat Races. Drivers accumulate points to determine start position for Day 3
            Day 3 – Final Races to determine one event champion per class
 
All events in each series will count towards season-end Championships; no drops

The new Florida Winter Cup will consist of a two-event series, starting with Daytona Kartweek.  Participants racing at Daytona Kartweek in the classes for the program, receive points they can apply to round two of the two-event Florida Winter Cup Championship.  Drivers wishing to race only in Florida in the Winter can benefit, and still be part of a Championship.
 
Kid Kart racers also have their own four-event championship, to crown one WKA National Kid Kart Champion.  The category will be included in at least one event of all the National Sprint Championship Events, starting at Orlando in February, then at the famed Charlotte Karting Challenge.  Additionally, the Kid Kart Grand National Event joins the Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup Grand National Event at Newcastle, join in ManCup racers for the coveted WKA Grand National Eagle, then finish up the year in the fall with the WKA National Kid Kart Championship event at Whiteland Raceway Park.
 
“In recent years, WKA National Sprint Racing limited the opportunities for racers by only offering the Manufacturers Cup, with a limited amount of classes.” Stated WKA President, Kevin Williams, “By introducing more programs, WKA can support its working ethic, by having a place for everyone.  To do that, we had to think outside the box and offer programs that appealed to each category of racer, from Kid Kart, to Regional Racer, to National Racer, in several categories.  We are proud to have accomplished that with this well thought out, creative approach.  This is a very exciting time for WKA Sprint Racing.”

WKA Top Kart USA Grand Nationals to be Taped for TV Broadcast

Culmination of 2019 Season Television Programming to be Capped off at New Castle

Beginning at with Daytona Kartweek this year, Live Broadcast Media Group, LiveBMG.com, has been capturing video coverage select classes of the 2019 Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup Season.  Once again, Live BMG will be in attendance at the Top Kart USA Grand Nationals at New Castle, October 11-13 to cap off a season full of WKA coverage. 

After the event the producers will prepare the entire season for later broadcast this fall.  Details and air dates will be available in the coming weeks, as great care is being taken now to cover all the major markets.

WKA Tech Manual Cover Contest Artist Winner Revealed

Nearly 500 Member Votes Determined The Winner

After receiving amazing submissions from WKA Members to design the 2020 WKA Tech Manual cover, members and trustees of WKA took to social media to vote on the cover that best represents WKA Karting. The Foundation of Motorsports.  The votes are in, and Elizabeth Phillips’ hand-drawn submission was the “hands-down” winner! 
 
Elizabeth spent several hours, hand-drawing, and digitally painting her submission of the 2020 WKA Tech Manual Cover.  After careful thought, Elizabeth wanted to express all that is WKA Karting, with inclusion of all forms of WKA, Sprint, Speedway, and Road Racing, while still maintaining a great “technical” look and feel to her piece.
 
“This was such a fun project”, stated WKA President Kevin Williams, “The submissions from our members was awesome, and the vote response was overwhelming.  This was an awesome way to get the members involved in the processes at WKA, and I thank everyone for their involvement.  Most importantly, congratulations to Elizabeth Phillips for her hard-earned victory.”
 
As promoted when the contest started, in addition to publicly promoting her work, Elizabeth will receive:

WKA brings its 2019 Road Racing season to a close with a huge bang, the WKA Vega Tires Road Race Series Grand Nationals, November 8-10 at the famed National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky.  Not only will National Championships be decided at the event, National Classes will also be racing for the coveted WKA Grand National Eagle, and the bragging rights that go along with it.

Adding to the fields this year, partner groups K.A.R.T. and CES will bring their drivers for the three day event in Kentucky.

WKA Opens Entries for Newcastle Manufacturers Cup Grand Nationals

Discounted Local Briggs 206 Sr. Added and Popular Configuration 40 Slated for All Classes

CONCORD, NC - WKA opens registration for the WKA Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup, Top Kart USA Nationals, October 11-13, adding Briggs 206 Senior for a reduced price of $100 for the weekend.

Strengthening last year’s successful WKA Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup at Newcastle Motorsports Park, series organizers have made the bold move to once again race on the challenging Configuration 40 for this year’s campaign. 

“Such amazing racing was enjoyed last year on Configuration 40 of the famed Newcastle Motorsports Park, we just had to do it again this year for our Grand National event.” Stated WKA President Kevin Williams, “What’s more, we wanted to continue to embrace the Briggs racers  by adding the hugely popular Briggs 206 Senior as a local option, making the event easy for them with a reduced entry fee for the weekend, and allowing either new or used Bridgestone YLC’s.”

Race Report: WKA Manufacturers Cup Series – Badger Kart Club, FranklinKart.com Nationals hosts fifth event of 2019 season

The fifth stop of the 2019 World Karting Association Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup Series program took competitors back to the Wolf Paving Raceway this past weekend. The Dousman, Wisconsin circuit, home of the Badger Kart Club, hosted the FranklinKart.com Nationals, serving as Rounds 9 and 10 for the championship program. Four drivers were able to leave with double wins, as podium drivers took home the famous ‘cheese cow’.

KA100 Senior championship leader Alexander Kardashian (Top Kart) extended his advantage in the title chase with two wins at Badger. It was a near sweep on the weekend, with the Saturday qualifying session the only time Kardashian was not in the P1 position. Jeremy Fierke (Kosmic) set the fast time with Taylor Maas (Merlin) and Kardashian off by only 63 thousandths. Kardashian went on to win both heat races, and led all 18 laps of the main event, holding off Maas with Fierke in third. Kardashian went untouched throughout Sunday, putting in a perfect round and leading all the laps of both the Prefinal and Final for his fourth victory of the season. Maas and Fierke drove to the same positions in the main event.

A trio of drivers continued their battle in the X30 Junior division, with Hayden Jones (Tony Kart) coming out on top both days. Nathan Nicholson (Tony Kart) set the tone on Saturday, posting fast time in qualifying and winning the two heat races. The intensity picked up in the Final, with all three drivers taking turns at the point. Jones was able to secure the top position with four laps remaining, driving away to a 1.6-second advantage for his first victory of the season. Adam Maxwell (Top Kart) grabbed the second spot from Nicholson. Jones began Sunday on top after qualifying and led all but the last lap of the Prefinal. Contact between he and Nicholson allowed Maxwell to slid ahead and take the win. Maxwell led the first two laps until Jones took over. From there, he pulled out to a 1.8-second advantage for his second victory, extending the point lead. Maxwell was second with Nicholson in third.

Adam Brickley (Nitro Kart) was the third championship leader to double up in Badger, earning both wins in the Mini Swift class. There was no clear leader on Saturday during the day, as Austin Jurs (Merlin) set fast time in qualifying while Brickley and Ben Maier (Nitro Kart) won the heat races. Brickley led the majority of the 18-lap Final, driving away to a 2.4-second advantage for his second victory of the season. Jurs beat Maier to the line for second. Brickley would then go on to sweep the action on Sunday. After setting fast time in qualifying, Brickley led the entire Prefinal. After getting shuffled back to third at the start of the Final, he retook the top position and held off Jurs for the victory. Ava Dobson (Merlin) was a close third.

Maier ran double duty, along with a handful of Cadet drivers, and was the fourth double winner on the weekend with his two wins in Briggs 206 Cadet. He and Nitro Kart teammate Christopher McKeithan dominated the action on Saturday. Maier edged out McKeithan by only 49 thousandths on qualifying for the top spot. Both heat races went in the favor of McKeithan, however, the Final was a three driver fight. Championship leader Spencer Conrad (Nitro Kart) put in his bid, leading seven of the 18 laps in the Final. It came down to the final lap, with Maier jumping from third to first for the victory over McKeithan and Conrad. Only two thousandths separated the fast time for Conrad and McKeithan in Sunday’s qualifying session, with the advantage to Conrad. Maier was back in seventh, only able to complete one lap but came back to win the Prefinal. That was all he needed as Maier led all 18 laps for his fourth victory of the season. Conrad was a solid second with McKeithan in third.

The largest category of the event was the event was the KA100 Junior category. Two drivers earned their first victories of the season – Westin Workman and Zach Collins. Workman (CompKart) was able to win both heat races on Saturday before leading 17 of the 18 laps in the Final for the victory. Collins (Top Kart) came up 78 thousandths short at the line from stealing the top spot with top qualifier Adam Maxwell (Top Kart) in third. Collins took control on Sunday, winning the Prefinal and passing Workman late in the Final to secure the victory. Maxwell completed a four-podium weekend with another third place result.

A number of young drivers were fighting for victory all weekend in the Micro Swift division. Championship leader Spencer Conrad (Nitro Kart) started out the weekend with fast time in Saturday qualifying. Ava Hanssen (Merlin) and Brayden Zirves (Merlin) each took a heat race win, and yet, none of the three were able to come out on top in the Final. Starting seventh, Austin Olds (Top Kart) quickly moved up inside the top-three and then second after Conrad retired while running second. Hanssen led the first 17 of 18 laps, with Olds completing a last lap pass for the victory. Hanssen settled for second with Cade Jaeger (Nitro Kart) in third. Hanssen fought back on Sunday to set fast lap in qualifying by over two tenths of a second. She would be shuffled back in the Prefinal, with Conrad scoring the win. Similar to Olds, Indy Ragan (Merlin) started the Final in sixth, and fought forward to be in the lead group. Sitting third as they took the white flag, Ragan came around with the lead to earn the victory. Hanssen missed out on the win by 54 thousandths at the line with Christopher McKeithan, subbing for Hoyt Mohr (Nitro Kart), earning the third step on the podium.

Colton McQuade and Holden Harder scored the wins in the Kid Kart division. McQuade set fast time and drove to an 11-second victory, his first of the season. Carson Benjamin grabbed his first podium of the season with the runner-up finish over point leader Jacob Schaible. Harder finished fourth, and was able to improve on that Sunday with a victory, his third of 2019. McQuade ended up second with Schaible notching his ninth podium finish of the 10 rounds.

A Briggs 206 Senior class joined the event as a local option division. Brian Rettig took the victory on Saturday over Danny Corcoran and Nick Ksoblech. Sunday was Ksoblech’s turn, sweeping the action on the day. Corcoran was runner-up once again with Emily DeMaster joining them on the podium in third.

During lunch on Saturday, four new members joined the WKA Hall of Fame with a pair of father/son duos. George and Jamie Sieracki of Franklin Motorsports along with Steve and Brian Jacobsen of VKP were all inducted into the Hall of Fame with current President Kevin Williams and former presidents Rick Dresang and Randy Kugler in attendance.

The WKA Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup Series closes out the 2019 season with the Grand Nationals, set for October 11-13. The New Castle Motorsports Park will host Rounds 11 and 12 with the famed WKA ‘Eagle’ awarded to race winners on the weekend.

Summer Sizzler Returns to Heartland Park

As summer comes to an end the Summer Sizzler has return for the 2nd year to Heartland Park in Topeka, Kansas.  The Summer Sizzler is a joint venture between 3 great karting organizations, WKA, KART/MARRS and CES.  This race is the 2nd race this year that these 3 groups have gotten together in hopes of bringing in a diverse group of karters.  With Kansas bringing the scorching temperatures there was bound to be some hot and heavy racing as well. 

Starting off the weekend of racing was the Sprint B&S LO206 class.  On Friday this race brought out 14 racers, but that number increased to 27 on Saturday and 26 on Sunday.  With Lindsey Simon leading the points race with the KART organization, would she have what it takes to bring home a 1st place finish.  Unfortunately, lady luck was not on her side this weekend, but there was some great racing fighting for the checkered flag.  With thunderstorms the night before practice was late getting started which meant not much time to prepare for the race Friday afternoon.  That did not stop Joel Negus from dominating the track.  Right out of the gate Joel was passed by the majority of the field with Jason Lorang leading the 1st lap.  It didn’t take long for Joel and his pack, Craig McNeese and Stephen Gibson to track down the leader and take over the top 3 positions. They continued to hang on to the lead with Joel Negus securing a 1st place finish.

“We could tell right from the start of the race that our gearing was quite a bit taller than the competitors. We started towards the front but by the first corner the majority of the field has passed us. It didn't take long for our gearing and top speed to move us to the front. I lead every lap with my race buddies right behind me.”

Again, Kansas thunderstorms pounded the track Friday night and left it with a few rivers in a couple of the turns.  This left many karters with little track time to prepare for the afternoon races, but this did not stop Joel and his crew.  This time they started out leading the field but only after a couple of laps they were overtaken by another pack of karters led by Stephen Hefley.  Unfortunately, this victory was short lived, as Joel Negus and his teammates had once again tracked down the leaders and secured the win.  Regrettably Joel’s luck would run out on Sunday as teammate Craig McNeese secured the win at the line in the Sprint B&S LO206.

“Heartland park track is a fantastic smooth fast track. the facilities are first class and we can't wait to go back. Our LO206 kart reached a top speed of 77 MPH which was the fastest we have run on any road race.”

The Sprint 125cc Shifter class also brought out the karters with 24 on Saturday and 19 on Sunday.  Russ Pyles came to Heartland Park leading the points race in WKA, but would he have what it takes to bring home the checkered flag?  Right out of the gate one of the top contenders in the class was Pierce Baldus, who has been busy running the ROK circuit.  Having an off weekend, he decided to run the Summer Sizzler in hopes of bringing home gold.  With the drop of the green flag, Jeff Mills had the horsepower and gearing to separate himself from the rest of the class. He continued this pace for the entire race with a 24 second lead.  Pierce Baldus and Coltin Craigo didn’t let this lead discourage them as they continued to battle for 2nd and 3rd.  Ultimately Pierce won the battle and took 2nd place by only .10 of a second over Coltin. 

Again, Sunday brought a little water on the track, but this did not stop the 125 Shifters from fighting the good fight for 1st place.  This time Jeremy Lightwine and Pierce Baldus were able to break away from the pack early on. After just a few laps Jeremy slowly made his move by driving away putting 6 seconds between himself and Pierce.  With only 4 laps to go Pierce was able to overtake the lead from Jeremy but this would be short lived.  Unfortunately, Pierce’s luck would not hold as Jeremy took the checkered flag beating Pierce by 0.15 seconds. 

“All in all, it was a great karting weekend, I recommend marking your calendars for Heartland Park in 2020. Looking forward to the Kart MARRS National Championship Race at Gateway Motorsports Park October 4th through the 6th. Thanks to Trei at Tanda Racing and the rest of the team, Goya Foods, my tuner Alex Norris and my mother and father. Thank you all for the support.”

Even though the Sprint IAME class did not bring the numbers they made up for it in good ole fashion racing.  Leading the 1st lap the Brown brothers worked together to separate themselves from the group by lap 4.  This would not last long as Jason Lorang hunted them down where they would continue to battle for the entire race.  In the end Jason had what it took to overtake the Brown racing team securing the checkered flag. 

After a disappointing loss on Saturday the Brown racing team was determined to come out with a win on Sunday.  With a gear change and some chassis adjustments Jaime and John came out swinging.  Right from the start they were able to separate themselves from the rest of the group with Cole Peschang hot on their trail.  After only a couple of laps Jamey Brown started pulling away from teammate John, while Jason Lorang overtook the 3rd position from Cole Peschang.  This battle continued for the rest of the race with Jamey winning by almost 30 seconds over teammate John Brown.

According to Sunday’s Sprint IAME winner Jamey Brown, “Topeka was an incredible event that we were proud to be a part of. With the race being a combined event, you always wonder just how many racers will show up. The 3 organizations came together for the sport of Karting and made it work for the benefit of the racers. It is really special to see what can be done in our sport when organizations come together and focus on one goal.”

Thank you all the karters who came put to supports the race at Heartland Park.  We look forward to seeing everyone at the next stop on the Vega Road Race series, which will be in Bowling Green, Kentucky at NCM Motorsports Park November 8th, 9th and 10th.

WKA Creates True Manufacturers Cup for 2020 National Sprint Program Enhances Classes, Race Format, and National Calendar

After careful planning, the World Karting Association (WKA) has made some aggressive enhancements to its Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup for 2020, and beyond.

Adding to the popular IAME classes for 2020, WKA will create a true manufacturers cup with the addition of the Vortex ROK powered classes to the program.  Stacking the classes even further, WKA will even bring back the popular sound of shifters to the series, with the inclusion of the potent, yet reliable, Vortex ROK Shifter categories. 

With the enhancement of both IAME and ROK categories next year, event race format will further add to the excitement; changing to the globally popular Heat Race, Pre-Final, Final format.  Racers will begin each event weekend with Free Practice and Qualifying Practice on Day 1, then a full day of Heat Races on Day 2, peaking with the pinnacle test of the event of Pre-Final and Final on the final day.  Although points will be awarded throughout the Heat Races, Pre-Final, and Final, only one true winner in each category will emerge at the conclusion of each Final.

Finally, with so much racing available to karters around the country each year, WKA is making the courageous step to reduce its Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup calendar from six to four events in 2020, in a move that frees up more weekends for the karting community. Two of the four events of the 2020 campaign have already been solidified, beginning with the famed Daytona International Speedway, December 28-30 for Kartweek.  Additionally, the second annual Charlotte Motor Speedway WKA Karting Challenge has recently been secured, April 17-19.  Dates and locations for the remaining two events are nearing finalization and will be announced very soon.

“Our team has spent a great deal of effort looking back at the fractioning of karting over the past two decades, and we came to the conclusion that WKA needs to do its part to sew some of those pieces back together while strengthening the sport in general,” stated WKA President, Kevin Williams. “The people who really benefit from these bold enhancements to our program are the kart racers and the entire karting community.  That’s the foundation of a karting association.”

2020 WKA National Road Race Reserved Numbers Now Available

CONCORD, NC - A new racing season is quickly closing in on us.  The 2020 Road Racing Reserve Number form is now available on our website, via fax, or by calling the WKA office for the form.

Your current number is yours through the Grand National race at Bowling Green, National Corvette Museum Motorsports Park which is November 8th thru the 10th.

IMPORTANT:

**If you want the same number for the new 2020 season send in the renewal forms by November 11th, 2019. 

We must receive your renewal by November 11th to keep your 2019 number

Any numbers not renewed by November 11th are then open to other racers.

Open numbers are reserved on a first come basis after November 11th.
