Briggs & Stratton to Provide Major Product to Jax Gold Cup Winners

CONCORD, NC - As the newest season for the RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series prepares to take to the track this weekend in the Water Medic Southeast Showdown at 103rd Street Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Florida, competitors will have the chance to not only compete for the right to stand atop the podium as the weekends overall champion for the event in their respective classes, they will also be taking home a Power Washer courtesy of Dave Klaus and the folks at Briggs & Stratton.

Following last season in which Briggs was the sponsor of 4 national classes, and also providing generators, which will be given out to the 2016 Year End Champions, also this weekend at Jacksonville, the strong relationship between Briggs & Stratton and the WKA Gold Cup program continues to flourish into a new season.

The Briggs product, in the form of generators to the overall winners, will continue July 28-30, when the series makes its second, and inaugural stop at Thompson Kart Raceway in Ohio for stop #2, with products also being made available to the Grand National Champions at the season finale October 6-8 at Lamar County Speedway in Barnesville, Georgia.

But for this weekend, the quest for the Gold Cup title begins for the following classes:

Prior to the national competitors making the run for the weekend cup and Briggs product, WKA will again be hosting the Friday Night Shootout Races, involving the Sportsman and Junior LO 206 classes, as well as the annual Money Race for the Senior LO206 Heavy class, offering a 75% payback to the top 5, based on kart count. The Shootout races will again pay $200, with 2nd receiving $100, and $50 going to third in both classes, with awards for the top 3 also available. Entry Fee for the Shootout classes is $25, a cheap price to pay for extra track time, and a shot at $200. Entry Fee for the Senior LO206 Heavy Money race is $50. Both the CIK and Traditional Gold Cup Bodyworks will be allowed in this race.

Once the Shootout Races conclude, the focus will shift back to 2016 where the national champions, as well as other award recipients will be honored in the annual awards ceremony, held again this year at the track.

Doors for the awards presentation will open at 6:45, with dinner at 7:15, and the awards presentation beginning at 7:45pm. Tickets are $20 per person.

As the season begins for the 3-race national program, it is important to note that a competitors best 5 of 6 races will be counted towards the overall national championship, with no bonus points being awarded this season. Jacksonville, Thompson, Barnesville Headline 2017 Gold Cup Schedule

CONCORD, NC - World Karting Officials have recently released the 2017 national schedule for the RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series.

3 national events will define the series for 2017, with the first stop being the traditional venture to the popular 103rd Street Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Florida March 24-26. Run in conjunction with the North Florida Kart Club, the Water Medic Southeast Showdown will set the stage for what should be another great season for the top 4 cycle competitors in the country.

The Jacksonville event will also play host to the 2016 Year End Awards Presentation, which will be held at the track, following the Friday Practice Day. 2016 Champions will be honored with their traditional championship Eagles, as well as product from Bridgestone, RLV, Briggs & Stratton, and much more!! Many other recipients will be honored on that evening. Doors open at 6:45pm, with dinner at 7:15 and the awards presentation at 7:45. A full buffet dinner will be provided.

Once the series departs Jacksonville, the second stop will serve as a new venue for World Karting, as competitors will head to Thompson Kart Raceway in Ohio July 28-30 for the Summer Nationals. Headed by Doug Marsh and the Championship Kart Racing Association, WKA is excited to place the series on new soil for the Gold Cup program.

A change comes in the third and final venue, as the series will crown its Grand National Champions October 6-8 at Lamar County Speedway in Barnesville, Georgia. Recently, the Georgia Sprint Karting Association opened their doors for one of their first practice sessions of the season, with a plethora of new faces coming out for the season’s first crack at the fabled facility.

The format for this seasons events will be very similar to that of last season, with competitors participating in qualifying, 1 heat race, and a final each day. However, in 2017, awards will be issued on Day 2 ONLY, to the highest overall finisher of the classes they participate in, with the top 3 receiving awards. Kid Kart participants in both LO206 and 2 cycle will run together, but scored separately, with an award going to the overall winner in both categories, and participation medals going to the balance of entrants. The Kid Kart Class will not be a national class in 2017.

Both the traditional Gold Cup bodyworks, as well as CIK bodywork will be allowed in all classes for one more season. Simply stated, competitors may run a Gold Cup nose with a Gold Cup column fairing, or a CIK nose with a CIK column fairing.  Additionally, a CIK LO206 Senior Class has been added, for those wishing to run CIK Bodyworks solely.

Specs on wheels, tires, and seat rules have not changed from 2016.

Entry Fees for this season will be set at $85 per pre-entry, and $100 at the track for all national classes, with a 1 time practice fee of $60 with pre-entry, and $75 for any at track entry. Kid Kart competitors will pay $50 for their pre-entry, and $65 at the track, with Practice Fees set at the same price as well.

WKA has also incorporated a new Rookie Class for 2017, with the age group set at 6-9 years old. This being a national class affords parents of 6-9-year-old competitors a smooth transition from the Kid Kart Class.

Jax Gold Cup Entry Blank Now Available Online! Southeast Showdown slated for March 24-26

CONCORD, NC - Competitors gearing up for a new season for the RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series can now view the entry info for the series 1st event of the 2017 season. The Southeast Showdown, slated for March 24-26 at 103rd Street Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Florida, will be yet another busy weekend, as competitors from the 2016 season will also be honored Friday evening following practice in the 2016 Awards presentation, with merchandise from RLV, Bridgestone, Briggs & Stratton, and much more to be handed out to the 2016 champions, as well as top finishers in their respective classes.

10 classes will make up the 2017 season for the National 4 Cycle Series, with the format very similar in 2017. Competitors will be running qualifying, a heat race, and final each day. However, awards will be given out on the final day only to the highest overall finisher in each respective class, with the top 3 receiving awards. The LO206 and 2 Cycle Kid Kart Classes, which will be combined, will run for a separate award for the winner over the weekend, with participation medals going to the balance of drivers in each engine category. The Kid Kart Classes will not be national points classes in 2017.

Deadline for pre-entries has been set for March 14th, giving competitors plenty of time to get their info straight for the 2017 season.

Jacksonville Winter Cup Entry Blank Now Available Online

CONCORD, NC - With very little time to lift off the gas pedal, following the latest edition of Daytona KartWeek, the next round for the WKA Winter Cup Series is just around the corner, as the entry blank for the 2nd stop of the series, coming to 103rd Street Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Florida, is now available online.

With no drops in the series this season, the return of 2 cycle competition to Jacksonville for the second straight year should provide an overflowing pit area and great competition on the historic long backstretch of the 103rd Street Complex.

While the 2 cycle competitors have the chance to return for the second straight year to 103rd Street, the LO206 Senior drivers also are afforded the chance to get a leg up on the track, with the February event a good tune-up prior to the season opening Southeast Showdown for the RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series, scheduled for March 24-26.

The Jacksonville event will also mark the second round for the major incentive program for eventual champions, as well as competitors who participate in all 3 Winter Cup Events, the finale being March 31-April 2 at Ocala Gran Prix.

2017 Winter Cup Champions, aside from the ROK Shifter Class, will receive a set of Bridgestone Tires, as well as 1 free entry into 1 of the 4 remaining Bridgestone Manufacturer Cup Series events for 2017, including Pittsburgh, New Castle, Briggs and Stratton Raceway Park, and GoPro Motorplex.

The ROK Shifter Champion will receive tires, fuel, oil, and a free entry into the ROK Cup USA Nationals in September in Orlando, Florida.

For competitors in the Pro IAME Junior and Senior classes, drivers who compete in all 3 events, including race and overall event winners, will be eligible to win a trip to Lemans, France in October for the X30 International Finals. The incentive for drivers is the more you win, the more times your name will be placed in the drawing, increasing your odds to be chosen for the trip. Aside from the travel cost, all other expenses will be paid for that weekends prestigious event.

Full Contingent of Animal and Clone Classes to Run Daytona Road Race

CONCORD, NC - As per the 2017 WKA Tech Manual, that will be reaching customers shortly, competitors that have run the Animal Lite, Medium, and Heavy classes, as well as the Clone LO206 Lite and Heavy classes in the past on the Dunlop/Xeramic National Road Race Series presented by Russell Karting, will once again have that opportunity for the 2017 edition of Daytona KartWeek at Daytona International Speedway December 27-30, as well as the entire 2017 season.

While there was discussion regarding the streamlining of the classes in both categories, World Karting Officials will be honoring the classes that were in place in both Animal and Clone again for 2017, as per the 2017 rulebook.

As is the case always with all classes in any series, officials will monitor the progress of all classes during the course of the season, to help further determine a course of action for the next racing season, thus ensuring the best possible classes are made available to the competitor each year.

With the resulting announcement, here are the 4 Cycle national classes available to competitors in 2017:

While the classes will not be placed in the current race order for Daytona, which is subject to change, the classes are listed on the entry blank, affording drivers to make their necessary plans for the national classes they will run. 2017 WKA Manufacturers & Winter Cup Updates, Awards Banquet, and Daytona Race entry NOW ONLINE!

CONCORD, NC - While the 2017 version of the Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup Series Schedule was released months ago, WKA Officials have finalized all the venues and dates heading into the new year. While the Manufacturers Cup Series has maintained its original 5 race schedule, the schedule for the WKA Winter Cup Series has been modified, based on scheduling challenges with competing series.

To provide customers that run multiple programs as much of a break between races as possible, the very successful 3 race winter program, now entering its second season, has adjusted its dates and venues, with stops in Daytona, Jacksonville, and Ocala.

Following a return to impressive numbers in 2016, the Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup Series, as always, will begin the season at the World Center of Racing, Daytona International Speedway December 27-30 for the Margay Sprint Nationals. The event, as was the case last year, will also be counted as the first WKA Winter Cup program for the new season. The next Manufacturers Cup event will then take the competitors to the Pittsburgh International Race Complex in Wampum, Pennsylvania May 19-21.  The series will then head to its traditional mid-summer stop July 14-16 at New Castle Motorsports Park in Indiana, with the August venue becoming another trip to the Midwest August 25-27 at the newly renovated Briggs & Stratton Raceway Park in Dousman, Wisconsin. The finale will bring the racers to Mooresville North Carolina.  Champions will be determined at GoPro Motorplex at the season ending Grand National event October 13-15. Competitors will be able to count their best 8 of 10 finals for the Man-Cup series in 2017.

On the Winter Cup side, once the program departs Daytona in December, the series will head to 103rd Street Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Florida February 24-26, with the finale scheduled for March 31-April 2 at the Ocala Gran Prix facility making this an all Florida Winter Cup in 2017.  There will be NO DROPS in the Winter Cup program, competitors will count 6 out of 6 finals.

The WKA Manufacturers and Winter Cup Classes offer the same structure as 2016 with a few changes: 

Kid Kart will be running as an exhibition class at the Manufacturers and Winter Cup events for just the cost of a Pit Pass.  They will have the opportunity to take laps during breaks and lunch at these events, with all drivers receiving a medal for participation. Kid Kart racers wishing to compete in the Kid Kart Class for a National Championship will have the opportunity to do so as the class is now part of the 2017 WKA Gold Cup Series. Lo206 Senior (CIK Body Work and Man-Cup Chassis Rules) has been added to the Manufactures Cup filling the void left by Kid Kart. This class with the its huge growth in the Midwest and the North Carolina area should make for a very good addition to the Manufacturers Cup class structure. 

On a technical note, Yamaha Junior, starting in Daytona will have new size rear tires.  The WKA Trustees voted back in mid-2016 to change to 7.10 for the 2017 Season. There are no other changes for the class. 

A new addition to the Winter Cup Class Structure will be the local option ROK Senior Shifter Class. The package is strong in the state of Florida, so the WKA Trustees wanted to give this class an opportunity in the WKA series. This will give the local Florida racers the chance to bring their ROK Shifter equipment onto the Daytona Karting track for the first time and then compete in Jacksonville and Ocala, tracks that they are very accustomed with.  The Class will follow the ROK Cup engine rules and use the ROK Cup Bridgestone (YLR) slick tires.

Listening to the racers suggestions the WKA Trustees voted to change its format to better accommodate an earlier finish on Race Day Two.  However, because of the short amount of daylight during Daytona Kart Week and the pit closing curfew, Daytona will follow Race Day Two format that consists of Qualifying, Heat and Final both race days.  WKA will extend the laps of the Heat and Final races.  The lineup for the Final both days will consist of points from Qualifying and the Heat race each day to set the grid for the final.  Day 1 and Day 2 are separate race days and don’t impact each other.

The balance of Winter & Manufacturers Cups will consist of Race Day 1 being the same as 2016 with Qualifying, Heat 1, Heat 2 & Final with Race Day 2 consisting of Qualifying, Heat and a Final (extended laps from day 1) with the lineup for the Final of Race Day 2 consisting of points from Qualifying and Heat. Again two separate race days that don’t impact each other.  It should be noted WKA Practice schedule will not be changing.

National Road Race Titles on the Line in Atlanta

National Road Race Titles on the Line in Atlanta

CONCORD, NC - The long awaited anticipation of settling the national championships in the Dunlop/Xeramic National Road Race Series presented by Russell Karting will come to a full boil September 16-18, as the national program will crown its 2016 champions at Atlanta Motorsports Park in Dawsonville, Georgia.

With the national series off since early June at Summit Point Motorsports Park in West Virginia, anticipation to tackle the 2-mile course in Atlanta for national competitors is at an all-time high.

While many titles have pretty much been determined, there are still several that hang in the balance, including the Foster 4J Ranch sponsored Yamaha Medium class, where Lamar Hilliard holds a slim 15-point edge over David McCauley.

The Kion/Linde Forklifts Yamaha Heavy class finds Steve Gore atop the standings by 75, again over David McCauley, who will be chasing 2 titles that weekend. Walter Troup is leading the WT Racing Leopard Sprint class heading into the finale, holding a slim 22-point edge Robert Wimmer, with Quincy Smith still within striking distance as well.

Stephen Flatt comes into the weekend with an 80-point edge over Aamir Hyder in the Fisher Racing Engines Stock Honda class, while Emmit Rodriguez looks to take down the West Texas Outlaws sponsored TaG Heavy group.

In the CKI Yamaha Sportsman Medium category, Matt Michel holds a solid lead over Michael Marr in the standings, while Jeff Standridge has a stranglehold on The Agile Group Unlimited class.

Travis Miller heads to Atlanta, sporting a sizeable lead over Lance Yunck in the KALL Racing/Millers Dynotime Racing Formula 100 class, while Rob Hindery leads Stephen Wheatley in the Hoosier Racing Tires Animal Lite category. Wheatley leads Quentin Hill by 45 tallies in the Animal Medium division.

In the Matthai Material Handling 100cc Piston Port class, William Morsberger holds the lead over Anthony Vacarro, while Duane Eberhart looks to extend his 55-point edge over Benjamin Eberhart in B Stock competition.
