WKA Charlotte Logo.jpg

CONCORD, NC - During the immense planning of the much anticipated WKA Charlotte Motor Speedway Karting Challenge, WKA Officials are taking the first step in welcoming racers by opening pre-registration for the recently added CIK Briggs 206 Senior Class for the Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup.

“We realize the Briggs 206 Senior racers participate in a variety of events throughout the year,” stated WKA President, Kevin Williams, “So we wanted to welcome them early with the opportunity to pre-register for the Manufacturers Cup Event at Charlotte.”

CIK Briggs 206 Senior Drivers will be asked to pre-register online with a credit card for a $1 commitment to participate in the event initially.  The class will continue with a minimum of 15 pre-registered drivers by noon eastern time on May 25.  After the required 15-entry minimum has been met, drivers will be charged the balance of the entry fees, and the class will be on the docket for the opening of Official Registration on Memorial Day.

As with all Manufacturers Cup Classes, the CIK Briggs 206 will participate in the event on Bridgestone rubber, with one new set of YLC tires required for the first day of qualifying, then the same set must be used for the second day of racing.

“WKA has made a major commitment to the Karting community by securing this amazing venue,” continued Williams, “We are asking the CIK Briggs 206 Senior drivers to make a commitment as well to come out and have a great time.”

Registration to Open Memorial Day 2019

CONCORD, NC - After extensive work and dedication from the WKA Staff, Trustees and Executive Team for WKA’s return to the Charlotte Motor Speedway, June 21-23, the World Karting Association is pleased to bring the event into a little more focus with the announcement of the Event’s Name, Class Structures, and Track Layouts, all available at worldkarting.com.  Registration for all three races will be available Memorial Day.

“The WKA Team has already put so much into this event to applaud our rich history at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, it was time we announced to our membership and the Karting Public the important aspects of this trifecta event.”, stated WKA President Kevin Williams, “Work still continues, securing all other aspects of this stellar event, which when completed will be announced on the event page of WKA’s website, worldkarting.com. Everyone on our great sport is really looking forward to this event.  It’s very exciting!“
Together with the Charlotte Motor Speedway, WKA announces the event name, the Charlotte Motor Speedway WKA Karting Challenge in Concord, NC.  Branding the event as a major step in establishing identification to help Karters from all disciplines to plan their racing commitments.

With input from all the WKA Series Committees, Class Structures for all three racing programs are now available.  National Classes from the WKA Tech Manual are included for both the Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup for Sprint Racing, and Vega Tires National Road Racing Series for Road Racing, while Speedway Committee Members recognized an exciting line up for the MaxxisSpeedway Dirt Race.  Local Option Classes offered for the Sprint Track will include the Briggs 206 (CIK Chassis) Senior Class, while the Road Race will invite Open Sprint and Vintage Piston Port and Open racers to the event.

With a well-orchestrated plan to establish safe, competitive, raceable track layouts for all three programs, WKA Staffers solicited industry experts to design and maximize the track layouts for the WKA Karting Challenge at Charlotte Motor Speedway.  Road Racers will enjoy the majority of the famed Charlotte Motor Speedway “Roval”, (without the back straight chicane), leaving a substantial amount of the Roval available for the Sprint Racers, both racing in counter-clockwise direction.  Conversely, the Speedway Dirt Racers will relish a modified version of the renowned Charlotte Dirt Track to do battle Friday and Saturday nights of the event weekend.

“Making information available to our members and the karting public, especially on our website, worldkarting.com, is an important part of delivering consistent news that is beneficial to our audience and helps the karting community make their plans., “continued Williams, “The enormous assistance of the WKA team and the amazing staff at Charlotte Motor Speedway to bring such a monumental event to the karting community is really for everyone’s enjoyment.  After all, that’s why we bring such creative events to karting.  With these announcements today, we now look to prepare the registration forms, which will be available Memorial Day.”

Hotels and discounted rental cars have already been secured for the participants at discounted prices, and are available for the event right now at www.worldkarting.com   Online Entry/Entry Forms, parking, garage/pit space/camping reservations will be available Memorial Day, 2019.

WKA RETURNS TO CHARLOTTE WITH ALL THREE NATIONAL PROGRAMS

WKAwebsite.png

November 23, 2018 – Looking to combine multiple World Karting Association (WKA) events at one venue, karting will make its return to the Charlotte Motor Speedway in 2019 over the June 21-23 weekend. With the Vega Road Racing Series utilizing part of the Roval and Speedway made famous by NASCAR, the Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup will also use a portion of the Roval in a sprint race style setting while the Maxxis Speedway Dirt Series will compete at The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

"Everyone at WKA is thrilled to host an event back on our home soil, and even more excited to bring all three of our National Racing Series together the same weekend,” explains Kevin Williams. “The folks at Charlotte Motor Speedway have been amazing partners with WKA to make this historic event happen."

Snip20180923_36.png

Maxxis Speedway Dirt Series

With the first ever Speedway Dirt Race at the Dirt Track at CMS, careful consideration was needed for track design and track prep. Maxxis Tires and the WKA staff have brought on veteran dirt track manager Mackey Flood to prepare an awesome track.

Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup

With the added Charlotte event, the 2019 schedule will experience some changes as noted below. Huge thank you to Pitt Race Complex and Concept Haulers Motor Speedway for making room on their calendars for 2019, but the addition of the Charlotte venue will result in the Manufacturers Cup program having to cancel these event venues with hopes to return to these amazing facilities in the very near future.

Other exciting news from WKA is the confirmation that the Manufacturers Cup will return to Road America on the May 17-19 weekend. Huge credit is given to Badger Kart Club in helping secure the date and additionally, they have gracefully agreed to change their race date to the August 23-25 weekend.

Revised Final Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup 2019 Schedule:

·       Daytona Kartweek, Daytona International Speedway - December 27-30, 2018

Other changes to the Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup include a change to Motul 2T Kart Oil for all 2-cycle categories as it becomes the spec oil for the series.

Additionally, at the most recent Trustee Meeting, some changes were made to the 2019 Regulations to make participation more member-friendly, as recommended by the Manufacturers Cup Competition Committee. After sampling many of the members to discuss the program's two finals per event format for each class, the drops allowed for 2019 Manufacturers Cup have changed from two entire event drops to four daily drops.

Also, to assist Mini drivers with their transition to the Junior ranks, WKA has added the KA100 Junior category to allow drivers to gain more experience before they move to the popular IAME X30 Junior class. To further assist, WKA will allow drivers with the attained age of 11-years old to advance to KA100 Junior for 2019.

WKA ANNOUNCES SCHEDULE, CLASS STRUCTURE WITH FRESH IDEAS FOR THE 2019 SEASON

July 17, 2018 – Being prepared and proactive to help its members, the World Karting Association (WKA) Manufacturers Cup program is pleased to announce their 2019 racing schedule and class structure along with a new point program as they prepare for the future. Taking the customers travel planning and costs of racing into consideration, a six race schedule over eleven months provides teams and competitors with a great platform.

“We have been working hard to not only finish our 2018 program strong, but also plan for our 2019 racing season,” explained WKA President Kevin Williams. “We want to provide our customers the opportunity to plan well in advance, thus being able to save on travel costs and put the Manufacturers Cup schedule on their upcoming calendar.”

Kicking the season off as always in Daytona Beach in December, the series will then make their trek Northward to Mooresville, North Carolina in March. The third event weekend of the series will be schedule in Dousman, Wisconsin in May while the same can be said about the June event in Wampum, Pennsylvania. Making a return trip to Norway, Illinois in August, the Manufacturers Cup will conclude with their Grand Nationals at the famed New Castle Motorsports Park in October.

Schedule 2019

Daytona International Speedway – Daytona Beach, Florida - December 27-30 2018

GoPro Motorplex – Mooresville, North Carolina - March 29-31 2019

Badger Raceway – Dousman, Wisconsin - May 17-19 2019

Pittsburgh International Race Complex- Wampum, Pennsylvania - June 28-29 2019 – *Tentative

Concept Haulers Motor Speedway – Norway, Illinois - August 23-25 2019

New Castle Motorsports Park – Spiceland, Indiana – “Grand Nationals” - October 11-13 2019

The 2019-point structure will start at a base of 200 points with 20 bonus points available for both Daytona and New Castle event weekends. The per entry bonus points have been removed for 2019. The change in the point structure will also allow competitors to drop two full event weekends, allowing them to be flexible with their 2019 racing schedule.

Williams added, “In the past, the series forced racers to compete on a more strict structure. The new approach allows more flexibility for WKA Members to select the dates and venues that work best for them, without much penalty, and still have fighting chances in Championship Points. Coming to the end of the season at our Grand National in New Castle, a racer from the Northeast can meet their competitor from the Midwest to race for the Championship.”

“The 2019 WKA Manufacturers Cup class structure has also been altered,” explained Williams. “Our thought process is to offer venues, dates, and classes that are popular among WKA's membership base to better serve the WKA Members. The points/drop schedule allows racers to tailor their competition year with more flexibility on the calendar and the locations we are visiting. This was a great effort of contributions from our Competition Committee, made up of strong industry experts, which include Chuck Gafrarar, Bill McLaughlin, Eric Jones, Pat Slattery, Jamie Sieracki, and Nick Tucker.”

The 2019 WKA Manufacturers Cup class structure will include IAME Micro Swift and Mini Swift as well as the 206 Cadet program. For the junior ranks, competitors will have the choice to compete in KA100 and IAME Junior while Senior competitors will have the same option in KA100 Senior and IAME Senior. Looking out for the future of the sport, WKA will also offer the Kid Kart category at all event weekends, which includes Daytona, while the Ignite “Dash at Daytona” will return to Daytona this year.

Other notable enhancements to the Manufacturers Cup Program is the return of tire sales back to our valued industry retail partners and shops, starting with the first event of the year at Daytona.  Also new for 2019 is the implementation of the push-back bumper program, with video review officiating available for the new regulation.

Stay tuned for more information coming from WKA in the very near future.
