CONCORD, NC - The Eagles will be soaring high this weekend in West Virginia as the VEGA/TS Racing National Road Race Series will host their Grand Nationals this weekend at the legendary Summit Pont Motorsports Park. With the season winding down quickly, there are many points battles that are extremely tight, as competitors will be afforded Bonus Points for this weekends activities. Many drivers will try and lock up their national title. If not, the Fall Nationals at NCM Motorsports Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky October 23-25 will carry even more weight.

The tightest battle in points is B Stock, where Randy Fulks and Tom O’Reilly are deadlocked for the lead with 348 points apiece. The Streeter Super Stands Stock Leopard class finds Walter Troup currently holding a 163 point lead over Jay Ellis with 2 races to go.

Chris Hines currently leads both Stock Honda 1 and 2, with Keith Buffo and Michael Hines in hot pursuit. A tight battle also exists in the Animal 385 class as Brent Hadden is holding onto a slim 40 point margin over Rob Garland Jr. Meanwhile, the elder Garland, Rob Sr, has a comfortable margin at present over Bill Lewis in the Van K Wheels Animal Masters 410 class.

Another great battle to watch for the balance of the year is in the Yamaha Sportsman Heavy class where Tim Linthicum has just 20 tallies over Bill Holder for the title. 20 points also separate William Morsperger from David McCauley in the Matthai Material Handling Yamaha Heavy class. Animal 360 is also a tight class heading into the weekend with Blake Beattie edging Zach Linsell by 49 points.

Travis Miller leads the KALL Racing and Millers Dynotime Racing Formula 100 class into town this weekend, holding a 135 point advantage over Michael Tracy while Tracy leads The Agile Group sponsored 100ccControlled Class by 315 points over Adam Myers.

53 National classes will be eligible to run for a Grand National Eagle this weekend, along with 9 Local Option Classes, added by the Woodbridge Kart Club.

Action for the Road Race Grand Nationals gets underway Friday with a full day of practice starting at 8:30am. On Saturday, practice begins at 8:30 with the days first races slated to kick off at 11am. Practice will begin the same time Sunday with racing action slated for a 10:15am start.

08.25.2015 - National Points Titles On The Line This Weekend at Pitt

mc_logo.2012.png

CONCORD, NC - Following a most successful season, the curtain will be drawn this weekend on the Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup Series at Pittsburgh International Race Complex in the Top Kart USA Grand Nationals. And while many points leads could be deemed safe, Bonus Points always play a key factor, sometimes throwing a wrench into what appeared to be a title in hand for some competitors.

The tightest battle is in one of the newest classes to the Mfg Cup program. Unfortunately, the IAME Swift Cup is considered a Local Option Class for the 2015 season. But if all Local Option classes grew like this one in its maiden year, life would indeed be great. Local Option aside, competitors in this class are going for bragging rights in the inaugural year for this most popular class. At present, Jason Welage holds a slim 10 point advantage over Connor Ferris with Pauly Massimino just 20 points back in third. The top 5 consist of Tyler Ferris and Luca Mars with Owen Mahle, Eli Trull, Nick Snell, Kyle Thome, and Robert Noaker III still jockeying for positions in the top 10.

While the Zero Error Racing class has for the most part all year just had 3 entries, the on track competition between points leader Dakota Pesek and runnerup Derek Hughes, as well as third place points man Tony Peterson has been phenomenal. Pesek currently leads Hughes by 70 points. And it appears the title will come down to these 2 drivers, as Peterson had to unfortunately withdraw from the event.

Derek Dignan has things well in hand in the Hytorc of Texas Pro Leopard Senior class, sporting a comfortable 227 point margin over multi time winner Andrick Zeen. Olivia Horn, Austin Osborne, and Nick Landi currently reside in the top 5 in this class, with the weekends winner again receiving $1,000 to win, with second place getting $500 and the third place finisher receiving a set of Bridgestone Tires.

The CRP Racing Kid Kart Class has been full of great competition all season long. Currently Caleb Gafrarar leads Benjamin Maier by 80 tallies with Danny Dyszelski, Sofia D’Arrigo, and Adam Brickley in the top 5. Others that will be on hand for the weekends action include Sam Corry, Aubrey Adams, Austin Olds, Tristan Young, and Ava Dutton, all drivers in the top 10 in the series standings.

Donald Whorton II comes in to Pittsburgh holding a 75 point edge over Nick Snell in the New Jersey Sprint Series Yamaha Rookie class. Trailing those 2 drivers are Lucas Smalec, Owen Mahle, and Elliott Cox for the top 5, with Riley Erickson, Annie Rhule, Eli Trull, Lucas Rodriguez, and Connor Churchill the current top 10, all expected to be on hand.

While Jason Welage holds a slim lead in the IAME Swift Cup standings, he has a commanding edge over Pauly Massimino in the Comet Kart Sales Yamaha Sportsman class, by some 230 points. Gage Rodgers is currently within striking distance of Massimino in third, with Tyler Ferris and Madison Campeau making up the current top 5. Also signed up to do battle this weekend in this class are Robert Noaker III, Kaden Wharff, Thomas Schrage, Joshua Warren, and Emil Schulz as the top ten is expected to shuffle again.

Welage also leads the DRT Racing Pro TaG Sportsman class, currently holding a 95 point advantage over Luca Mars, with Massimino, Rodgers, and Connor Ferris the top five. Noaker, Campeau, Wharff, Schrage, Aiden Lindley and many more will not only fight for final position in the points, but the $500 payday that accompanies the winner this weekend, with second place getting $250, and the third place finisher receiving a set of Bridgestone Tires.

The remaining 3 classes have healthy leads as John Paul Southern Jr sports a 145 point edge over Brandon Lemke in the Woltjer Racing Engines Yamaha Junior class, with Zach Holden, Drew Lindley, and Geo Bromante making up the top five. Also expected to be on hand to better their position in the top 10 are Marina Walters, David Malukas, Austin Schulz, Sam Paley, and Brody Warren, as well as many others.

While Lemke trails in Yamaha Junior, he looks to cap off the KartSport North America Pro IAME Junior class this weekend. Lemke currently leads Zach Holden by 170 points, with Southern, Jack Miller, and Bromante rounding out the top five. Others expected on hand include Abby McLaughlin, Drew Lindley, Alex Bertagnoli, and many more. Winner in this class will receive $500 for the win with $250 going to second, and a set of Bridgestone Tires being presented to the third place finisher.

Finally in the Tillotson Pro X30 Senior class, Alexander Kardashian has a stranglehold on the field, sporting a 209 point edge over his closest competitor, that being Derek Dignan. Andrick Zeen, Olivia Horn, Sam Cate, and many more are expected to be on hand for this finale, which again will pay the winner $1,000, with $500 for second, and third receiving a set of Bridgestone Tires.

Activities for the Top Kart USA Grand Nationals get underway with a full day of practice Friday Aug 28, beginning at 9am. Action begins Saturday at 8am with 1 round of practice, followed by 3 sets of heat races, setting the field for Sundays Pre Finals and Finals which will begin at 8am with 1 round of practice.

On behalf of the World Karting Association, best of luck to all competitors in the Grand National this weekend, and thank you for supporting the Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup Series in 2015.

Racing World Mourns Loss of Todd King

Racing World Mourns Loss of Todd King

toddKing.jpg

CONCORD, NC - The World Karting Association community is at a great loss today with the unexpected passing of longtime competitor and contributor Todd King. For the past several years, Todd, along with his wife Karen, served as the official photographers and vendors for the National Road Race Series through their most unique business name, Krapp Photos. But prior to getting in the photography business, Todd logged many laps in Road Race and Gold Cup Competition for World Karting, most recently running the season opening Gold Cup event at 103rd Street Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Florida.

His success led to many special awards throughout the years. But while Todd enjoyed the gift of racing, his true gift was the smiles and laughter he created in the pits as one of the truly “Good Guys” in the sport, willing to help solve any issues in racing, and be that friend in need, all the while being oblivious to the challenges he was dealt with in the most recent years of his life. His main goal was for everyone to have fun and enjoy themselves at events.

Not allowing the physical ailments to dominate his life, Todd stood tall on the racetrack, helping to provide smiles through the lens of a camera with his great action shots, all the while standing out on a racetrack for hours on end. There was simply nothing Todd would not do for anyone, as long as he was physically able to handle it.

Todd married Karen Brown, the love of his life, this past St Patricks Day. Together, for many years, they enjoyed traveling the road, meeting the wonderful families of the various WKA National Series, with Road Race holding a very special place in their heart.

While funeral arrangements have yet to be finalized, through the efforts of his good friend, and fellow Road Racer Stephen Flatt, a link to donate to Todd’s fund has been established. If you would like to help, please click on to the following link, http://www.gofundme.com/toddkingmemorial.

On behalf of the World Karting Association, as well as the entire karting community, our thoughts and prayers go out to Todd’s family and his loving wife Karen.

CONCORD, NC - World Karting Association Officials are proud to announce the official venues and dates for the 2016 edition of the Bridgestone Manufacturers Series. With steady and consistent participation, as well as a renewed energy in the entire program and organization, WKA is pleased to announce the continuation of relationships with some of the greatest 2 cycle facilities in the country Headlined by the World Center of Racing, Daytona International Speedway, for the annual edition of Daytona KartWeek in December, WKA will also be venturing back to the ultra modern Go Pro Motorplex in Mooresville, North Carolina for an April event, giving fans a chance to visit some NASCAR Race Shops during their visit, as well as the NASCAR Hall of Fame. Also on the schedule will be 2 stops at Mark Dismore’s New Castle Motorsports Park in Indiana, the crown jewel of the Midwest, along with a return to the northeast at the always challenging and competitive Pittsburgh International Race Complex in Pennsylvania, a track with high-speed straight-aways and awesome elevation changes

Adding to the excitement of the 2016 schedule will be the first ever edition of The WKA Winter Cup, a three race series, kicking off at Daytona International Speedway, the same week as Daytona Kartweek, giving competitors an opportunity to not only run nationally, but also begin the quest for the Winter Cup title, all at the same time

Stop #2 for the series will take place at the legendary 103rd Street Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Florida in February, with the third and final run for the title ending up at Go Pro Motorplex, thus crowning the 2016 inaugural Winter Cup Champions For many running both the Winter Cup AND the Manufacturers Cup Series, the final date for the Winter Cup at Go Pro will afford competitors returning for the April Mfg Cup nationals the opportunity to leave their trailers on the property, should they choose to.

“ We are extremely pleased to be able to present our Mfg Cup national schedule to the karting public as early as we can, thus giving them the opportunity to make their plans for all the series they compete in, well in advance” stated WKA President John Ferris.

While still working on class structure for both series, WKA Officials, as well as the respective Competition Committees, are finalizing proposals that will be announced shortly. While the bulk of the Mfg Cup National Classes will clearly remain in place, the Winter Cup will be a strong mix of IAME Classes, as well as LO206 Junior and Senior Classes, providing an awesome mix of 2 and 4 cycle competition, taking many back to the days of old, before the 2 series became independent of one another.

The level of energy has not been measured this high in quite some time in both 2 and 4 Cycle racing, as WKA continues to provide their racers the best venues and class options available in their quest for the ultimate national title!!!!

Lemke Doubles Up In McLaughlin Motorsports Nationals at NCMP

Lemke Doubles Up In McLaughlin Motorsports Nationals at NCMP

IMG_0710.jpg

CONCORD, NC - Race #4 for the Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup Series found quite a bit of parity, as the battle for national titles tightened up in the McLaughlin Motorsports Nationals at New Castle Motorsports Park in Indiana. Drivers were greeted with a change in the scoring line at the track, as competitors would have an even harder run up the final long straightaway coming back from Interstate 70, taking the checkers on the long stretch instead of racing to one final tight corner after racing up the fastest straightaway on the track. Traditionally known to be the deciding factor in the outcome of events with drivers outdueling the other, competitors had to rely on raw horsepower, a partial draft, and a slingshot move to vie for the top honors.

The end result were some of the closest finishes and hair-raising moments for fans and competitors.

With heat index numbers soaring past 100 for the weekend, Brandon Lemke was the only driver to find success at the top twice, taking both the Woltjer Racing Engines Yamaha Junior Class, as well as the KartSport North America Pro IAME Junior Division.

Other winners for the weekend included Sam Cate in the Tillotson Pro X30 Senior class, Dakota Pesek in the Zero Error Racing Yamaha Senior Pipe, Luca Mars in the DRT Racing Pro TaG Sportsman class, Adam Maxwell in the New Jersey Sprint Series Yamaha Rookie Division, Benjamin Maier in the CRP Racing Kid Kart class, Derek Dignan in the Hytorc of Texas Pro Leopard Seniors, Jason Welage in the IAME USA Swift Cup, and Robert Noaker III in the Comet Kart Sales Yamaha Sportsman Class.

For Lemke, his day started with the Yamaha Junior class. After getting by Streeter Super Stands Fast time winner Zack Pretorius, the Merlin driver edged out to a comfortable margin, taking the top honors over New Castle product Zach Holden, with John Paul Southern Jr, Drew Lindley, and Gio Bromante rounding out the top 5.

The decision for Robert Noaker III to run New Castle paid off well in the Comet Kart Sales Yamaha Sportsman Class. Struggling with the decision to visit family or stay in contention for the Yamaha Sportsman title ended with Noaker taking the win on Sunday. The victory by no means was an easy one as Noaker had to out haul Jason Welage and Streeter Super Stands Fast Timer Gage Rodgers for the top honors. Tyler Ferris and Kaden Wharff completed the top five in a battle that saw these five go back and forth throughout the entire 15 lap distance.

Not to be shut out of victory lane for the weekend, Welage scored the win in the IAME USA Swift Cup Class. Running as a Local Option Class in 2015, the Swift Cup has turned into the event that has fans clinging to the fence this year, as 26 competitors signed into the paddock. But when it was all said and done, Welage stood atop the podium for yet another time, claiming another event win, besting Anthony Willis, Reese Gold, Lachlan DeFrancesco, and Streeter Super Stands Fast Time winner Connor Ferris

Sam Cate was the first driver of the weekend to claim a check, taking down the competition in the Tillotson Pro X30 Senior Class. Following a spirited battle with Streeter Super Stands Fast Time winner Alexander Kardashian and Derek Dignan, Cate laid claim to the $1,000 top prize for the weekend, with Kardashian taking home $500 for second. For his third place efforts, Dignan took home a set of Bridgestone tires. Austin McCusker and Roger Ralston completed the top 5.

As the saying goes, it only takes 2 karts to make a race exciting. Well, add one more, and the Zero Error Racing Yamaha Senior Pipe had fans on the edge of their seats the entire weekend, through 3 heat races, the Pre Final, and final event. All year long it’s been a great battle between Dakota Pesek and Derek Hughes. The previous 2 races have found Tony Peterson adding to the mix. Through all the back and forth battles between the 3, Pesek, the Streeter Super Stands Fast Time Winner, cam e out on top, with Hughes and Peterson the top 3.

All season long, Luca Mars has been lurking in the shadows as one of the top drivers in the DRT Racing Pro TaG Sportsman class. Sundays main event finally paid off big for Mars as took the checkered flag, along with the $500 payday that went with it. Mars fended off Jason Welage and Streeter Super Stands Fast Time winner Connor Ferris for the top honors with Kaden Wharff and Robert Noaker III completing the top 5. Welage received $250 for his second place effort while Ferris won a set of Bridgestone Tires.

In the New Jersey Sprint Series Yamaha Rookie Class, Adam Maxwell came to New Castle loaded for bear!!! Maxwell took the early lead from Streeter Super Stands Fast Time winner Donald Whorton, then rode off in the sunset for the victory for the weekend. Owen Mahle came home second, with Whorton, Elliott Cox, and Nick Snell completing the top 5.

As always, the CRP Racing Kid Kart Class did not disappoint. Sporting yet another large field, Benjamin Maier took his turn atop the podium, claiming the victory over the weekend. While the Kid Karts run a shorter course at New Castle compared to the other national classes, the insertion of the Monza made for some exciting times on the track, as competitors had more than just the long straight-aways to deal with. Chasing Maier across the stripe were Danny Dyszelski, Adam Brickley, Ava Dutton, and Addison Iannielo, as the girls flexed their muscle in this class for the weekend with Sofia D’Arrigo taking the Streeter Super Stands Fast Time award.

After taking third in the Pro X30 Class earlier in the day, Derek Dignan roared back to life, claiming the $1,000 top prize in the HyTorc of Texas Pro Leopard Senior class. Dignan made it a clean sweep in the class, taking the Streeter Super Stands Fast Time Award, then topping David Galownia, Austin Osborne, Graig Alvarez, and Bryce Englehart for the win. Galownia took hone $500 for his efforts with Osborne getting a set of Bridgestone tires.

Lemke finished his day the way he started, taking top honors in the KartSport North America Pro IAME Junior Class. Lemke fended off the efforts of Gio Bromante, Zach Holden, John Paul Southern Jr, and Michael Cruz to collect the $500 top prize. Bromante’s second place run placed $250 in his pocket while Holden received a set of Bridgestone tires. Samuel Paley, who finished 7th, was the Streeter Super Stands Fast Time winner.

With the fourth race of the season in the books, all focus turns to the Top Kart USA Grand Nationals August 28-30 at Pittsburgh International Race Complex in Wampum, Pennsylvania. Competitors wishing to reserve parking for this event need to contact the WKA Office.

WKA Preparing For 2015 Edition of Daytona KartWeek

WKA Preparing For 2015 Edition of Daytona KartWeek

CONCORD, NC - While the racing season begins its stretch run in many parts of the country, officials with the World Karting Association and Daytona International Speedway have already begun the process for kartings annual return to the World Center of Racing in December. For many years, Daytona KartWeek has been the launching point for motorsports newest season. Running their traditional dates of December 28-30, nestled in between Christmas and New Years, WKA plans a return of three of their four major touring series to Florida for yet another year. Headlined by a most successful Dirt program boasting over 800 entries last year, the organization will also return the VEGA Tire/TS Racing National Road Racing Series to the high banks of Daytona, as well as the Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup Series on the specially designed road course in the infield of turns 3 and 4.

“The return of World Karting for another year is a great testament to the continued tradition of professional sanctioning bodies of motorsports racing at Daytona” stated Andrew Gurtis, Vice President of Operations for Daytona International Speedway.

“While the latest edition of KartWeek is several months away, the process of preparing for three national events running simultaneously requires a huge undertaking well in advance” according to WKA President John Ferris. Ferris also stated the organization is proud of the continued relationship between Daytona and WKA, and looks forward to making the 2015 version of Daytona KartWeek the best ever!!!!

More information regarding Daytona KartWeek will be revealed in the coming months. So be sure and make your plans now!!!

Critical Points Race For McLaughlin Motorsports Nationals at NCMP

Critical Points Race For McLaughlin Motorsports Nationals at NCMP

CONCORD, NC - If ever there was a time to get up on the wheel in the battle for a national title in the Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup Series, this weekends McLaughlin Motorsports Nationals at New Castle Motorsports Park in Indiana would be just that time. With just one race left till the Top Kart USA Grand Nationals in late August at Pittsburgh International Sprint Complex, this weekends event is paramount for many competitors, not just for the title, but for the many jockeying for positioning in the top 10 in the overall standings. While Caleb Gafrarar enjoys a healthy margin over runnerup Adam Brickley in the CRP Racing Kid Kart Class, the battle for third is a good one between Sofia D’Arrigo and Briggs and Stratton Raceway Park winner Benjamin Maier, with just 25 points separating the 2 competitors. Fresh off his 5th place run at Badger, Sam Corry, the #5 driver in the standings, has some ground to make up, but still has some time to make an impact deeper in the top 5.

In one of the many tight battles for a championship, just 80 points separate Donald Whorton II from runnerup Nick Snell in the New Jersey Sprint Series Yamaha Rookie Sportsman class. Whorton was able to pad his lead in Dousman, Wisconsin with a 3rd place run while Snell wound up 12th in the weekends rundown. Lucas Smalecs 5th place run in Dousman keeps him alive for a title, while Owen Mahle still has some work to do to figure in the title hunt.

While fans are keeping a sharp eye on the Yamaha Rookie Sportsman battle, an even closer watch needs to be kept on the Comet Kart Sales Yamaha Sportsman class, where Jason Welage holds a 50-point margin over Pauly Massimino. While Welage has found victory lane in several classes, his consistency has kept him atop the standings in this class, with 3rd place points man Gage Rogers winning at Daytona, while Massimino took down Go Pro Motorplex, and Aiden Harrington made it 3 races and 3 faces at Dousman, Wisconsin. Also in the hunt are Madison Campeau and Tyler Ferris to name just a few of the many who will be vying for the top shelf of the podium this weekend.

While Welage has been leading the points in the DRT Racing Pro TaG Sportsman class this year, he’s recently also been raking in the money, taking the most recent $500 to win prize in Wisconsin. And again, looking over his shoulder, there sits Massimino waiting to pounce, just 45 points back in 2nd. Tightly bunched behind this duo stands Luca Mars, fresh off a second place run in Wisconsin. Gage Rogers and Madison Campeau have also been joined at the hip, on the track and in the standings recently. Campeau ran one of her best races to date, taking third in Wisconsin, with Rogers on her bumper, while Campeau is bump drafting behind Rogers in the standings in the battle for 4th and 5th.

Competitors in the Pro TaG Sportsman Class will once again be running for a $500 to win payday this weekend, with $250 for second, and a set of Bridgestone Tires going to the third place finisher.

One of the brightest, and most competitive new classes in 2015 has been the IAME USA sponsored Swift Cup class. Run as a Local Option class this year, many of the names already mentioned in the Junior classes have added this class to their resume, and thus have made it one of the best races to watch in the weekend. Currently Pauly Massimino leads the standings by 85 points over Connor Ferris with Jason Welage, the most recent winner in Wisconsin trailing the lead duo. Other competitors in this class, loaded for bear this weekend, include Tyler Ferris, Luca Mars, Nick Snell, Wisconsin runnerup Kyle Thome, and a host of others.

While John Paul Southen Jr holds a 145-point lead in the Woltjer Racing Engines Yamaha Junior class, the battle for second is a deadlock behind the Wisconsin winner with Zach Holden and Brandon Lemke in a virtual deadlock for the second spot. Holden fell into a tie for second in the standings, following his 9th place run in Wisconsin, while Lemke came home second to Southern. Geo Bromante and David Malukas are 2 other drivers still looking to shake the top five in the standings up.

The battle between Lemke and Holden far exceeds 1 class though, as Lemke comes to New Castle, holding a 95-point edge over Holden in the KartSport North America Pro IAME Junior Class. Lemke took down the win at Badger while Holden took 4th in the event. In between the 2 drivers in the final rundown in Wisconsin were Geo Bromante and Alex Bertagnoli. Bertagnoli currently sits 3rd in the title hunt with David Malukas, Jack Miller, John Paul Southern Jr, Abby McLaughlin, Bromante, Austin Schaff, and Drew Lindley currently the top 10 in the standings. This class will again be vying for a $500 payday, with $250 for second, and a set of Bridgestone Tires to the third place finisher.

In Senior competition, the Zero Error Racing Yamaha Senior Pipe Class sports by far the tightest battle of all classes, with just 20 tallies separating series leader Dakota Pesek from Derek Hughes. While TJ Koyen played the spoiler, winning in Wisconsin, Pesek and Hughes were a tight second and third in the event, making for a great run in Indiana this weekend.

Nick Landi brings the points lead into New Castle in the HYTORC of Texas Pro Leopard Senior Class, sporting a 127 point edge over Dustin Stross, with Olivia Horn, Jacob Donald, and Austin Osborne the current top 5. While in the Tillotson Pro X30 Senior class, Alexander Kardashian leads Stross by 90 points, with Derek Dignan a few points back in third. However, Andrick Zeen, the driver who swept both the Pro Leopard and Pro X30 Senior classes in Wisconsin, is expected to also be on hand for another shot at the $1,000 payday in both classes. Second place will receive $500 with the third place finisher in both events getting a set of Bridgestone Tires.

So while many points battles are tight, another great challenge to these competitors will be the early arrival of many SKUSA competitors, getting prepared for their Summer Nationals the following weekend at New Castle, driving the weekends entry list up, and pegging the barometer with regards to heated competition.

Activities for the McLaughlin Motorsports Nationals begins Friday 9am with a full day of practice for all classes. On Saturday, activities begin on track at 8:30am with 1 round of practice, followed by qualifying and three rounds of heat races, making for a full day. On Sunday, following a round of practice at 8:30am, drivers will begin their Pre Finals, followed by the Finals for the weekend.

CONCORD, NC - There is a recurring theme in the RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series this year. When a driver is on a roll at a specific event, there is no stopping them. And it hasn’t always been the same dominant face this year. Such was the case at the Michigan Kart Supply Nationals at G and J Kartway in Camden, Ohio, stop #3 for the 4 race series.

camdenCONCORD, NC - There is a recurring theme in the RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series this year. When a driver is on a roll at a specific event, there is no stopping them. And it hasn’t always been the same dominant face this year. Such was the case at the Michigan Kart Supply Nationals at G and J Kartway in Camden, Ohio, stop #3 for the 4 race series.

While Jacob Heavlow and Riley Kelley have scored national event wins this season, it wasn’t until the Camden stop where both put together large win streaks. For Heavlow, wins came in the Senior Pro Gas Money race, both of the Coyote Motorsports Senior Pro Gas Points races, and the Animal Medium main as well. For Kelley, his streak of 4 came in the Miller Welders Sportsman LO206, as well as the Razor Chassis Sportsman Pro Gas Lite, and the Baker Racing Engines Sportsman Pro Gas Heavy classes.jacobHeavlow

With late Friday afternoon rains halting practice for the day, the inclement weather also forced the Sportsman and Junior Pro Gas Money races, as well as the Senior Pro Gas Money race to Saturday evening, making for a full day of on track activity Saturday.

Defending champion Jax Walker came to life at Camden, also joining the multiple wins club, taking top honors in the Tyler Sandmeyer Kid Kart class both Saturday and Sunday.  On Saturday, Walker had to outhustle Mikim Motorsports Fast Time Award winner Blake Boone to take the win, as Kershaw winner Owen Lloyd chased the pair home in third. Walker bettered his qualifying run on Sunday, taking the pole, and once again fending off the efforts of Boone and Lloyd for his second win of the weekend. Wyatt Kessinger came home fourth on Sunday.

After dominating the top shelf of the podium in Kershaw, South Carolina in June, Aiden Baker Crouse continued his winning ways, securing the win in the Razor Chassis Sportsman Pro Gas Lite main event, the first of HIS 2 wins on the weekend. After taking the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time Award, Crouse bested Cale Hall for the top honors, while Riley Kelley chased the pair across the stripe for the win.

Once again, the Coyote Motorsports Senior Pro Gas class was packed with entries. And this also would serve as the starting point for Jacob Heavlows success as the Maryland driver staved off Dustin Demattia for his 1st of 4 wins for the weekend. Chasing the duo across the stripe were Sean Meier, Sarah Luoma, and Mike Greiner, as Gary Lawson, a longtime competitor on the series, returned to Camden and grabbed the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time award.

dustinWhile 4 wins in a weekend was fantastic for some, Matt Miller wasn’t far behind in the win total category, notching 3 wins himself for the weekend. Starting with the Van K Wheels Junior Pro Gas Lite class, Miller had another quality field of competitors to fend off, taking the top honors over Jason Alder, with Joshua Stark, Cody Hall, and Brian Van Cleve chasing the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time winner across the stripe. Later in the day, Miller came back with an LO206 motor strapped on the kart, scored the Mikim Motorsports Fast time honors, then proceeded to top Jimmy Cole Jackson, Cody Hall, Talia Moffet, and Alex Vrabel in the Thor Oil sponsored class. Part of Millers wins would include a weekend sweep of the class as the Maryland driver returned Sunday to take the win, again over Jackson, with Jason Alder, Hall, and Vrabel completing the top 5.

With Matt Miller and Riley Kelley prepping for their next track time in the pits, Heavlow took back to the track to secure what would be the second win of the weekend, this time in the Animal Medium class. Heavlow topped Paul Headley, Jim Lipari, Justin Funkhouser, and Cayla Chapman, as well as securing the Mikim Motorsports fast time honors.

With a Sportsman Pro Gas Lite win already in his pocket, Aiden Baker Crouse returned to the track, taking the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time award in the Miller Welders Sportsman LO206 class. However, Riley Kelley was ready to click off his string of wins for the weekend, thus grabbing the lead, and holding on for the win over Crouse, with Tanner Carter rolling home third.

Time off from the Gold Cup Series hasn’t slowed Gary Lawson down one bit, as the Mentor, Ohio driver returned to Camden, and laid claim to the Briggs and Stratton Racing LO206 Senior class victory on Saturday. Fresh off a second place run earlier in the day in Senior Pro Gas, Dustin Demattia roared home for a second place run, with Mikim Motorsports Fast Time winner Eric Fagan, Chris Osgood, and Ben Wagenhals completing the top 5.

Demattia was finally able to break the second place streak on Sunday, flip flopping the finishing order, and taking the LO 206 win over Lawson, with Tyler Smith, Richie Kuhn, and Austin Queen completing the top 5.

In the Baker Racing Engines Sportsman Pro Gas Heavy class, Aiden Baker Crouse returned to the podium to claim his second win of the weekend, edging Riley Kelley for the top honors.

Following a solid second place in the Animal Medium class earlier in the day, Paul Headley found his familiar spot back up front, taking the Power Plus Lubricants Animal Heavy Mix main event. Headley was able to beat out Josh Stiefel for the honors, with Tim Stiefel, Case Hall, and Jacob Connor completing the top 5.

In the midst of so many multiple winners, Alex Vrabel was able to sneak in and slow down the win streak of Matt Miller in winning the Brads Heating and Cooling Junior Pro Gas Heavy main event. Miller was hot on Vrabels heels in second, with Brian Van Cleve, Mikim Motorsports Fast Time winner Jason Alder, and David Kalb completing the top 5.rileyKelly

With the bulk of points races in the books for Saturday, it was time to focus on the rescheduled Money Races, sponsored by Brads Heating and Cooling. In the 10 lap Sportsman Pro Gas Shootout, Cale Hall laid claim to the $200 event win, topping Riley Kelley and Aiden Baker Crouse. For his second place effort, Kelley received $100, with Crouse earning a cool $50.

In Junior Pro Gas Shootout competition, the Hall family tradition continued as Cale’s older brother Cody topped Matt Miller for the $200, 10 lap win, while Brian Van Cleve streaked across the line in third.

With Zach Linsell not in attendance, the 2 race Senior Pro Gas Money race win streak also came to a conclusion as Jacob Heavlow scored his third event win of the weekend, besting Sean Meier, Eric Fagan, Scott Klemen, and Sarah Luoma.

Sundays Razor Chassis Sportsman Pro Gas Lite Main found Riley Kelley back in the win column again, topping Mikim Motorsports Fast Time winner Aiden Baker Crouse and Tanner Carter. Kelley would win the bulk of his races on Sunday, roaring back for the top honors in the Baker Racing Engines Sportsman Pro Gas Heavy Class, again taking the win over Crouse. Kelley polished off the day in the Miller Welders Sportsman LO206 Class, with Crouse haunting him the entire way, while Tanner Carter again took third.

Heavlow returned to the winners circle Sunday, stopping older brother Jimmy in the Coyote Motorports Senior Pro Gas Class. Gary Lawson returned on Sunday as well, taking third, with Eric Fagan and Josh Stiefel completing the top 5. Lawson was the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time winner.

After many efforts on Saturday, the fruits of labor paid off for Jason Alder as he laid claim to the Van K Wheels Junior Pro Gas Lite victory. After taking the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time honors, Alder proceeded to show the field his rear bumper in taking his lone win of the weekend.  Cody Hall came home second followed by Brian Van Cleve, Matt Miller, and Austin Williamson.

In Animal Medium, Paul Headley improved one spot from the day before, storming out of the gate for the Fast Time honors, then taking his second national win of the weekend. Headly edged out Justin Funkhouser and Jim Lipari.

After scoring the LO206 win on Saturday, Gary Lawson came back to take the top honors in the Power Plus Lubricants Animal Heavy Mix class, topping Saturday winner Paul Headley, with Josh Stiefel, Sarah Luoma, and Jacob Connor completing the top 5.

The final event of the weekend found Cody Hall triumphing in the Brads Heating and Cooling Junior Pro Gas Heavy main, making it two wins for the weekend for Hall after taking the Junior Pro Gas Shootout Saturday night. Hall bested Brian Van Cleve, Matt Miller, Joshua Stark, and Jason Alder for the top honors.

Following two back-to-back national events, just 1 month apart, the series gets a major breather, not running the GT Machine Grand Nationals until September 25-28 at Lamar County Speedway in Barnesville, Georgia.

Gold Cup Points Battles Head to Camden for the 4th!!!!

CONCORD, NC - Less than 1 month removed from the heat of Kershaw, South Carolina in the Kart City Performance Nationals, The RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series hits the track for stop #3 of the season this weekend in Camden, Ohio at G and J Kartway for the Michigan Kart Supply Nationals.

While Mother Nature may give competitors in the rolling corn fields of Ohio a little better break, temperature wise, the hotly contested battles for national titles will continue at the home of the Ohio Valley Karters Association.

Headlining the battle is the continued dogfight for the top spot in the Coyote Motorsports Senior Pro Gas Animal class, one of the largest classes of the year. Coming into the event. Corey Towles sports a slim 5 point advantage over Sean Meier, with Zach Linsell, Matt Mayes, and Tyler Smith not far behind. Towles grabbed a runnerup spot and a 4th in the 2 days of competition at Kershaw, and looks to pad that points lead this weekend.

While this is clearly the closest battle in the national points, of all classes, 1 weekend slip can tighten things up in any class, as the Camden event serves as the final tune-up before the Grand Nationals in Barnesville, Georgia in September.

Austin Queen brings the points lead in the Briggs and Stratton LO 206 Heavy class, another well attended group in 2015. Queen’s consistency has netted him an 80 point lead over his next closest challenger in Eric Fagan, a winner at Kershaw. Also expected to battle are Haley Kummer, Patrick O’Neal, Michael Clark, and Evan Cowen.

Jim Lipari and Paul Headley bring points leads to Camden as well in their respective classes, Animal Medium, and the Power Plus Lubricants Animal Heavy Mix classes. Cayla Chapman and Josh Stiefel have been strong contenders in these respective classes this year, and figure to give the points leaders a run for the money.

Owen Lloyd, a winner on Day 1 at Kershaw in the Tyler Sandmeyer LO206 Kid Kart class, brings a 60 point lead in the standings to Camden over defending series champion Jax Walker.

Meanwhile, Sportsman drivers have had to learn their ABC’s all over again, not by choice though, as Aiden Baker Crouse has been lighting things up in the Razor Chassis Sportsman Pro Gas Animal Light, Baker Racing Engines Sportsman Pro Gas Heavy, as well as the Miller Welders Sportsman LO 206 classes, leading the points in all 3 categories, after taking 5 out of a possible 6 national wins in South Carolina. Crouse will be heavily challenged throughout the weekend as Riley Kelley, the only driver to win other than Crouse in Sportsman competition at Kershaw, will be loaded for bear at a run for another few wins. Other drivers set to battle for the 4th of July title include Tanner Carter, Cale Hall, Macon Moore, and Mark Steube to name a few.

Matt Miller brings the points lead in both the Van K Wheels Junior Pro Gas Lite Class, was well as the Brads Heating and Cooling Junior Pro Gas Animal program. Set to challenge Miller this weekend are Jason Alder, Joshua Stark, Jimmy Cole Jackson, Kershaw hot shoe David Kalb Jr, and many others.

Meanwhile Cody Hall leads Alder, Miller, Jackson, and Nash Duyn in the Thor Oil Junior LO 206 class. Hall and Alder swept the main events in Kershaw with 40 points separating the top two point contenders.

Activities for the Michigan Kart Supply Nationals get underway with a full day of practice Friday, beginning at 8:30am. Following practice, the first of 3 Money Race events will be held as Brads Heating and Cooling presents the Sportsman Pro Gas and Junior Pro Gas 10 lap shootouts, each race paying $200 to the winner, $100 for second, and $50 for third, with trophies being awarded to the top 5. Following the Shootout races, the best in Senior competition take to the track for the Senior Pro Gas Money Race.

Saturday and Sunday activities will start at 8:30am both days with practice, followed by qualifying, heat races, and main events.
