2017 Gold Cup Season Coming Together

CONCORD, NC - The planning for the 2017 season for the RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series is nearing completion. Recognizing some of the modifications made in 2016 may not have been the best fit for the program, WKA Officials, beginning with the August New Castle event this past season, and heading into next season, are moving back in the direction that the majority of Gold Cup competitors have been familiar and comfortable with.

Once again, the series will boast a 4-race program in 2017, beginning with the opening event at 103rd Street Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Florida March 24-26, and ending with the season finale at Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, South Carolina October 6-8, again running the track backwards, similar to the recent October Grand National. With 2 well respected and renowned facilities serving as the bookend events for the series, WKA is proud to add 2 new venues to the middle portion of the program for 2017 with Thompson Kart Raceway in Thompson, Ohio serving as stop #2 for the series. The date of the debut of a WKA Gold Cup National to Thompson Speedway will be July 7-9. The third stop is yet to be announced.

The format for this seasons events will be very similar to that of this past season, with classes running qualifying, a heat race, and a main each day. However, in 2017, awards and merchandise will be issued on Day 2ONLY, to the highest overall finisher of the classes they participate in, with the top 3 receiving awards. Kid Kart participants in both the LO206 KID Kart and 2 Cycle Kid Kart classes will receive awards that will go to the winner, with participation medals going to the balance of the drivers in each class. While the 2 engine packages will run together, they will be scored separately, with a winner determined in both categories. The Kid Kart classes will not be national points classes in 2017.

While the 2017 WKA Technical Manual is out, and in the hands of the competitors, it is very important to note that the Board of Trustees have elected to allow both the traditional Gold Cup Bodyworks, as well as the CIK Bodyworks in all classes for 2017, thus giving competitors 1 more season of having the option of which bodyworks to run. However, a CIK LO206 Class has been added in the Senior ranks, for those wishing to run CIK Bodyworks solely.

Entry Fees for this season will be set at $85 for Pre Entry, and $100 at the track for all national classes, with a 1 time practice fee of $60 with your pre entry, and $75 at the track for the weekend. Kid Kart Competitors will pay $50 for their pre entry fee, and $65 at the track, with Practice fees set at the same price as well.

WKA has also incorporated a new Rookie 206 Class for 2017, with the age group set at 6-9 years old. This being a national class, affords parents of 6-9 year old competitors a smooth transition from the Kid Kart Class.

Competitors can count their best 6 of 8 races for the season.

More information will be coming soon. WKA is looking forward to another wonderful season with the top 4 Cycle racers in the country.

Here is a look at the 2017 schedule:

Lipari Sweeps GT Machine Grand Nationals at Kershaw

CONCORD, NC - The season finale for the RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series at Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, South Carolina finally received the checkered flag, albeit 1 month later, following a postponement due to Hurricane Matthew in October, as the GT Machine Grand Nationals drew the season to a close for WKA Gold Cup Competitors.

While Hurricane Matthew was the talk of October, it was Tropical Storm Jim that led the charge of winners on one of the most interesting weather weekends in recent history, as Rochester, New York’s Jim Lipari led a Coyote Motorsports charge, recording 4 national event wins over the weekend in Senior Pro Gas Medium and Heavy. Coming into the weekend, Coyote needed 11 wins to tie Arrow for most wins in the season, while Arrow needed to go winless. However, Arrow scored 2 wins on the weekend with Kevin Lanyi in the LA South Tire Sportsman LO206 Class, just edging Coyote, in what was a runaway in the chassis standings following Race #3 back in August in New Castle, Indiana.

From near perfect fall weather conditions on Friday, to cold, sunny, and windy conditions on Saturday, culminating with an all-day dose of wet weather on Sunday in raw conditions, competitors in all classes were still up on the wheel, fighting for the right to a Grand National Eagle, as well as an ultimate national title.

In addition to Lipari and Lanyi, other notable winners included Jimmy Cole Jackson, leading the Razor Chassis camp with wins in the Junior Pro Gas Lite and Water Medic Junior LO206 Classes, as well as Blake Boon, notching wins in the MattMillerRacing.com Sportsman Gas Lite classes, as well as the Friday night Sportsman Pro Gas Shootout. Sean Meier also recorded a good weekend for the Coyote camp, sweeping the Senior LO206 Heavy mains, as well as the Friday night Money race. And it can’t be Kershaw unless David Kalb Jr is in victory lane as well, as the Ohio speedster notched wins in the Briggs and Stratton Junior Pro Gas Heavy classes, as well as a Junior Pro Gas Lite and Junior Pro Gas Shootout win on Friday night. Elmer Edmonson was the last double event winner, taking down the Brad’s Heating and Cooling Sportsman Pro Gas Heavy main events.

Action got underway Friday evening with Blake Boon taking the $200 win in the Brads Heating and Cooling Sportsman Pro Gas Shootout. In addition to the win, Boon also received a Grand National Eagle for his effort, as well as a brand new Milwaukee brand power gun, courtesy of Chris Kelly, as well as Dave and Sue Koehler from GT Machine. Hunter Burns chased Boon across the stripe for second and a $100 payday, with Elmer Edmonson coming home third, and garnering $50.

Kalb began his winning weekend, also taking down $200 from Brad’s Heating and Cooling in the Junior Pro Gas Shootout, with Jimmy Cole Jackson and Austin Williamson claiming the $100 and $50 paydays for second and third. Kalb also received a Grand National Eagle, as well as a Milwaukee Power tool.

Meier wrapped up the night, taking the LO206 Senior Money race, topping Patrick O’Neal and Brian Collins. For this race, the Hard Charger in the event would receive the Milwaukee power gun, with Patrick O’Neal being the recipient. To add more interest, $100 was placed inside one of the tool cases, with Blake Boon adding to his win total by an additional $100, totaling a $300 evening.

The busy day of activity was topped off by a Thanksgiving dinner, sponsored by Paul Rice Sr of MGM Chassis, as well as Rich Jackson of Water Medic. WKA Thanks Mr Rice and Mr Jackson, as well as the many supporters who could return for the rescheduled event, and get their Thanksgiving kicked off in fine fashion.

As Race Day #1 approached, Jim Lipari went to work, taking the first main of the day in the Coyote Motorsports Senior Pro Gas Medium event, topping Jacob Connor for the effort. Lipari would return later in the day to take the Bordeaux Dyno Cams Senior Pro Gas Heavy main, again topping Jacob Connor, with Matthew Turner checking in for third. Lipari was the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time winner in both classes.

Jimmy Cole Jackson began his multiple win weekend, taking the Junior Pro Gas Lite main Saturday, topping David Kalb Jr, with Austin Williamson, Talia Moffett, and Riley Kelly taking the top 5. Kalb took the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time award.

With 1 win, a Grand National Eagle, and $300 in his pocket already, Blake Boon began his assault on the national points classes, taking the MattMillerRacing.com Sportsman Gas Lite event over Hunter Burns and Elmer Edmonson, with Boon securing the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time award as well.

Meier continued his winning ways from Friday, taking the Briggs and Stratton Senior LO206 event over Corey Towles, Ryan Bennett, Chris Wells, and Jeremy Warren, with Towles taking the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time award.

While the Water Medic Junior LO206 win was his lone of the weekend, Cade Frazier carried the MGM Chassis flag high, rolling to the Saturday win over Jimmy Cole Jackson, Talia Moffett, and Riley Kelly. Frazier also nailed down the Mikim Motorports Fast Time award for the class.

Another first time winner on the weekend was Todd Horton, taking the Briggs and Stratton Masters LO206 Senior class, as the local product topped Tim Stiefel and Brad Farmer for the win. Stiefel claimed the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time Award.

Kevin Lanyi’s 2-win weekend, and ultimate Chassis Championship winning effort began in the LA South Tire Sportsman LO206 Class, where the young driver topped Caleb Gafrarar, Bree Miller, Elmer Edmonson, and Mason Cantrell. Miller took the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time effort for the class.

Kalb found his second win of the weekend in the Briggs and Stratton Junior Pro Gas Heavy class, besting Talia Moffett, Riley Kelly, and Austin Williamson, with Kalb also taking the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time award.

The finale for Day 1 found Elmer Edmonson scoring his first of the weekend in the Brad’s Heating and Cooling Sportsman Pro Gas Heavy class. Edmonson topped Hunter Burns, while also taking the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time Award.

As Sunday rolled around, so did the clouds and damp weather. However, the top shelf of the podium changed very little, with Jim Lipari returning to sweep the Jim’s Marine Senior Pro Gas Medium race over Jacob Connor, while also taking down the Trackside Kart Supply Senior Pro Gas Heavy class over Connor and Matthew Turner, sweeping 4 Grand National Eagles, as well as 4 Mikim Motorsports Fast Time Awards.

Kalb equaled Lipari’s win total for the day, first taking the Junior Pro Gas Lite event over Austin Williamson, Jimmy Cole Jackson, Riley Kelly, and Talia Moffett, while also taking down the Briggs and Stratton Junior Pro Gas Heavy class, topping Williamson, Kelly, and Moffett. Kalb and Jackson were the respective MIKIM Motorsports Fast Time winners.

Boon returned to victory lane in the MattMillerRacing.com Sportsman Gas Lite event, turning back Elmer Edmonson, as well as taking the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time award.

Meier continued his average of 1 win per day, returning to take the Inferno Racing Clutches Senior LO206 main for the second day in a row, topping the heavy rain and water, edging a fast closing Ryan Bennett for the win. Michael Clark rolled home third, with Towles and Stiefel making up the top 5. Towles took the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time effort.

Jimmy Cole Jackson was the only driver to win a race on more than 1 engine package. After winning in Pro Gas on Day 1, Jackson returned to take the Water Medic Junior LO206 event over Saturday winner Cade Frazier, with Talia Moffett and Riley Kelly completing the top 4. Jackson was also the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time winner.

Lanyi returned to sweep the LA South Tire Sportsman LO206 activities, besting Bree Miller, Caleb Gafrarar, Collin Miller, and Mason Cantrell on Sunday, while Blake Boon, an 8th place finisher in the event, was the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time winner.

Tim Stiefel notched the Sunday win in the Briggs and Stratton Masters LO206 Senior class, while Elmer Edmonson wrapped up the weekend in the Brad’s Heating and Cooling Sportsman Pro Gas Heavy ranks.

With the results in hand, the Unofficial Chassis Rankings gives Arrow a narrow 1-win edge over Coyote 24-22, with Razor finishing up in third with 11 wins.

Arrow: 24

Coyote: 23

Titles on the Line This Weekend for Gold Cup at Kershaw

CONCORD, NC - Following a 5 week delay by virtue of Hurricane Matthew in October, the season finale for the RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series will officially return to action, providing a unique challenge at this weekend's GT Machine Grand Nationals at Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, South Carolina, as competitors will be going in the opposite direction, a vast difference than the June national, thus making the run for the coveted Grand National Eagle, as well as the overall national title in each class, that much more interesting.

Leading the charge for the title will be Jacob Heavlow of Galena, Maryland, the current leader by 175 points over brother Jimmy in the Coyote Motorsports/Jim's Marine Senior Pro Gas Medium class. Staying in contention all season long also has been Glen Burnie, Maryland driver Jacob Connors, while New Yorker Jim Lipari, and Floridian Mike Greiner round out the top five in the classes current standings.

Another Marylander, in the form of Perry Hall, Maryland's Matt Miller is looking to take the top brass in the Junior Pro Gas Lite category. Miller currently sports a 210-point edge over Alex Vrabel, while Ohio's David Kalb Jr, who has become a complete master on the Kershaw course, sits third in the standings, followed by Brian Van Cleve Jr and Austin Williamson.

The battle in the MattMillerRacing.com/Spooner General Contractor Sportsman Gas Lite class is a little tighter, with Rochester, New York driver Blake Boon closing in on the title, leading Fort Myers, Florida driver Elmer Edmonson by 90 tallies, while Hunter Burns, Landen Lewis, and Aiden Baker Crouse complete the top 5.

One of the most competitive classes this year has been the Briggs and Stratton/lnferno Racing Clutches Senior L0206 Class, where Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida driver Sean Meier holds a 112-point edge over Jacksonville, Florida's Corey Towles, while Jacob Heavlow, Michael Clark, and Patrick O'Neal are waging war within the top 5.

The Boon and Sons Kid Kart class has seen a few different competitors up top, with Brently Miller currently atop the standings over Rachel Richter and Carlos Willis, with newcomer Walker Porter expected to mount a challenge this weekend as well.

Possibly the best battle of the weekend to watch may be the Water Medic Junior L0206 Class, where

Matt Miller may have a little tougher fight on his hands, leading by just 35 tallies over Cape Coral, Florida's Jimmy Cole Jackson. Kannapolis, North Carolina driver Cade Frazier, third in the standings, will also be on hand, with Hunter Fox and Talia Moffett rounding out the top 5 in the standings.

Much like Miller, Jacob Heavlow will also be looking to secure his second title of the weekend, holding a

180-point edge over brother Jimmy in the Bordeaux Dyno Cams/ Trackside Kart Supply Senior Pro Gas Heavy Class. Drafting with this pair again is Jacob Connors, with Chris Osgood and Matthew Lewis making up the top 5.

The L&A South Tire Sportsman L0206 Class will also be a great battle to watch, with Midland, North

Carolina driver Caleb Gafrarar, fresh off a Grand National win in the Mini Swift class at New Castle

Motorsports Park in Indiana, ready to tackle another piece of hardware, leading Madison, Alabama's Kevin Lanyi by 35 points. New York's Blake Boon is 75 tallies back as well, with Florida's Elmer Edmonson and Maryland's Brady Atwood making up the top 5.

Miller will be seeking the trifecta this weekend, holding a 175-point edge over Alex Vrabel in the Briggs & Stratton Junior Pro Gas Heavy class, with Brian Van Cleve Jr, David Kalb Jr, and Austin Williamson holding down the top 5.

The Briggs & Stratton Masters L0206 Senior class is by far the tightest points battle, with just 10 tallies separating leader Brad Farmer from New York's Tim Stiefel, with Tennessee's Matt Skaggs, Illinois's Ryan Cassity, and Indiana's Rob Smith completing the top 5.

Finally, in the Brad's Heating and Cooling Sportsman Pro Gas Heavy class, Florida's Elmer Edmonson looks to lock up the title, holding a commanding lead over Landen Lewis, with Aiden Baker Crouse, Adam Maxwell, and Tanner Carter making up the top five spots.

The battle for the Grand National Eagles will kick off Friday with a full day of practice, followed by the Brad's Heating and Cooling Sportsman and Junior Pro Gas Shootouts, in which the winners will also

receive eagles for their efforts, with $200 going to the winner, $100 to 2 nd, and $50 to 3 rd . The Senior L0206 drivers will also be running their final Money Race of the season, with an eagle on the line, and Cups going to second and third, as well as a money payout. The Shootout races will roll off at 4:45 Friday afternoon.

Following the events on Friday, there will be a Thanksgiving Dinner for all competitors, sponsored by MGM Chassis and Water Medic, as WKA will show its appreciation to all competitors for their support for the 2016 season. The dinner will be served buffet style at The Palmetto Club, with guests welcome to head back to the pits and enjoy an early evening meal.

Saturday and Sunday activities will hit the track each day at 8:30am with 1 round of practice, followed by the Mikim Motorsports run for the pole, then 1 heat race, followed by the main events for each day, culminating with the hoisting of the Grand National Eagles for each race winner.

Revised Kershaw Gold Cup Entry Blank Posted

CONCORD, NC- With the postponement of the GT Machine Grand Nationals recently at Carolina Motorsports Park due to Hurricane Matthew, World Karting Officials have updated and released the newest version of the event entry blank and weekend schedule for the season finale for the RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series.

The event has been rescheduled for the weekend of Nov 11-13, with the full intent to run the track in the opposite direction, thus adding a little challenge to those still in contention for a 2016 national title.

Additionally, the deadline for anyone who would like to pre enter has been extended to Friday November 4, giving those who were planning on coming, and missed the deadline, the opportunity to take advantage of the pre entry pricing. This also leaves the door open to any competitors who could not originally make the October 7-9 event, and would now have the opportunity to attend.

Other than the date change and extended pre entry deadline, the program will remain unchanged, with a full day of practice Friday, followed by the Sportsman and Junior Pro Gas Shootout Races, sponsored by Brad’s Heating and Cooling, as well as the Senior LO206 Money Race.

Saturday and Sunday activities will kick off at 8:30am each day with practice, qualifying, 1 heat race, and the final event each day, as competitors will fight for the right to hoist the traditional Grand National Eagle at day’s end.

GT Machine Grand Nationals Rescheduled for Nov 11-13

CONCORD, NC - As a result of the postponement of the scheduled Oct 7-9 GT Machine Grand Nationals weekend at Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, South Carolina due to the potential damaging effects of Hurricane Matthew on the area, World Karting Officials, in cooperation with the track and national competitors registered for the event, have mutually agreed to reschedule the event for November 11-13.

The decision to postpone the event for the October date was met with overwhelming positive results, as competitors from Florida, New York, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Georgia, and more locally would all have been met with great challenges to not only make it to the event, but possibly endure some extremely dangerous weather conditions while at the facility. Potential flooding and 60mph winds are expected in the Kershaw area.

“Postponing this event put all of the Florida customers in a little better frame of mind’, stated Brad Farmer of the North Florida Kart Club in Jacksonville. “While it’s always a joy to be at the track, the constant thought of what is happening to my family and property while I am gone, would have constantly weighed on my mind the entire weekend. I applaud the decision”

Coming from a similar perspective, yet different geographic direction, Jim Lipari of Coyote Motorsports of New York realized the potential war zone they could be driving into. “We’re hearing parts of I-95 South were being shut down, which would force us to not only redirect our path to the track, but then the unknown element of what we would be facing while we were there. WKA did the right thing to ensure people’s safety. I know that wasn’t an easy call, but I think it’s clearly for the best”

While 2 dates were made available by David Watkins of the Carolina Motorsports Park, the date that best suits the majority of competitors is the November date.

Although Daylight Savings Time will have kicked 1 week earlier, WKA is more than confident, given the expedient and consistent manner in which they run a Gold Cup show, that impending darkness as the fall season hits, will not be a factor at all.

Nothing has changed as far as the weekend schedule. Activities will begin Friday at 8:30am with a full day of practice till 4:30pm, followed by the Sportsman and Junior Pro Gas Shootout Races, sponsored by Brads Heating and Cooling, as well as the Senior LO206 Money Race, all beginning at 4:45pm.

Saturday and Sunday activities will roll off at 8:30am each day with 1 round of practice, followed by qualifying, heat race, and final each day.

WKA sincerely thanks all competitors and families involved in our Gold Cup program for their positive support of the postponement, and working with the organization to find a suitable date to finish the season, with all drivers earning their titles on the track.

TRACK MAP FOR KERSHAW GOLD CUP GRAND NATIONAL AVAILABLE

CONCORD, NC - As announced recently, the finale for the RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series October 7-9 at Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, South Carolina will have a little bit of a twist thrown in. Competitors in the hunt for their respective national titles will be running the GT Machine Grand Nationals in the opposite direction from what they have been accustomed to.

The path drivers will take for this event is not uncommon, as Carolina Motorsports Park Officials have run many local events with the same configuration, which is a bit quicker running clockwise than the traditional route.

As a result, the grid and tech area will also be shifted to accommodate the change in direction for the event.

Activities for the GT Machine Grand Nationals get underway Friday with a full day of practice at 8:30am. Later in the day, the Sportsman and Junior Pro Gas drivers will compete in their final Shootout races of the season, with $200 up for grabs to the winner, $100 for 2nd, and $50 for third, along with awards for the top 3. The Senior LO206 competitors will also have a Money Race Friday evening, with a 75% payback based on entry count.

08.09.2016 - Maxwell, Kalb, Heavlow Storm New Castle Victory Lane Multiple Times

Maxwell, Kalb, Heavlow Storm New Castle Victory Lane Multiple Times

CONCORD, NC - After suffering through triple digit heat numbers back in June at Carolina Motorsports Park, the RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series drivers were given a little reprieve for the third stop of their 4 race campaign this past weekend in the Kart City Performance Nationals at New Castle Motorsports Park.

Returning to the famed Midwest road course after a hiatus of a few years, many competitors instantly took to the national course, with many repeat winners on the top shelf of the podium multiple times, including Maryland’s Jacob Heavlow with 5 national wins, Ohio‘s David Kalb Jr checking in with 4, and Indiana product Adam Maxwell equaling Kalb’s Junior success numbers by knocking down 4 wins in Sportsman competition. For Heavlow and Kalb, it was actually 6 and 5 wins respectively, including the Friday Evening Shootout races.
Other winners on the weekend included former national champion Ryan Cassity returning to the series for a pair of wins in the Masters Class, and Kevin Lanyi recording his first ever Gold Cup national win in the Sportsman LO206 class. Other winners included Matt Miller, Jimmy Cole Jackson, Sean Meier, and Caleb Gafrarar.
For Heavlow, his 5 victories began with the top spot in the Coyote Motorsports Senior Pro Gas Medium class on Saturday, taking the top honors over brother Jimmy, with Jim Lipari, Jacob Connors, and Sarah Luoma completing the top 5. Jimmy Heavlow was the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time Award winner.
Sundays class, sponsored by Jim’s Marine, was almost a repeat performance of the top 5, with both Heavlows in the top 2, Lipari again third, with Josh Stiefel powering his way into 4th, and Luoma again in the top 5. Once again on Sunday, Jimmy Heavlow was the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time award winner.
Heavlow then went to the LO206 side, with again the same end result, a win on Saturday in the Briggs & Stratton sponsored class, over a very talented field of competitors, with Sean Meier, Zachary Linsell, Ryan Cassity, and Scott Hamble the top 5. Meier returned on Sunday to take the top spot over Heavlow, with Corey Towles, Linsell, and Luoma making up the top 5. Heavlow and Meier were also the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time winners.
Heavlow polished off the weekend with wins each day in the Bordeaux Dyno Cams/Trackside Kart Supply Senior Pro Gas Heavy class. On Saturday, the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time winner topped brother Jimmy, with Jacob Connors, Josh Stiefel, and Chris Osgood the top 5. Sundays action saw the same top 3, with Osgood and Stiefel trading slots in 4th and 5th. Heavlow won the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time Award on Sunday as well.
For David Kalb Jr, it appeared to be Kershaw all over again, as the Ohio top dog shredded the field each day with a solid performance. Starting with the Junior Pro Gas Lite classes, Kalb topped Mikim Motorsports Fast Time Winner Matt Miller on Saturday, with Jimmy Cole Jackson, Alex Vrabel, and Austin Williamson completing the top 5.  In Sundays action, Kalb, the Mikim Motorsports Fast Timer, again topped Miller and Vrabel, with Talia Moffett and Austin Williamson completing the top 5.
Kalb’s success continued in the Briggs & Stratton Junior Pro Gas Heavy class, as the Mikim Motorsports Fast Timer bested Miller, newcomer Justin Wishard, Brian Van Cleve, and Williamson. Kalb returned on Sunday for the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time win, as well as victory #4.
Indiana native Adam Maxwell had an awesome weekend, collecting a ton of hardware as well in the Sportsman ranks. A regular in the tracks very successful KRA program, as well as a competitor in the 2 cycle ranks, Maxwell immediately used the home court advantage, topping Blake Boon and Elmer Edmonson in the MattMillerRacing.com Sportsman Gas Lite class both days, also claiming the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time Award on Sunday, while Boon was Fast Time on Saturday.
Maxwell laid claim to wins #3 and 4 in the Brad’s Heating and Cooling Sportsman Gas Heavy class both days, topping Edmonson, as well as garnering 2 more Mikim Motorsports Fast Time Awards.
One of the best battles of the weekend each day was in the Water Medic sponsored Junior LO206 Class where Matt Miller and Jimmy Cole Jackson shared the wins. Miller claimed the win over Jackson on Saturday, with Talia Moffett, newcomers Alex Sullivan and Aaron Maxwell completing the top 5. Sundays race was determined by mere inches, with Jackson eeeking out the win over Miller, while Cade Frazier, Talia Moffett, and Justin Wishard completed the top 5. Miller swept the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time Awards both days.
Not to be outdone, the L&A South Tire Sportsman LO206 put on a great performance both days, with Caleb Gafrarar edging Adam Maxwell on Day 1, followed by Blake Boon, Elijah Skaggs, and Kevin Lanyi. Sundays race found Lanyi scoring his first career win, beating out Maxwell again, with Skaggs, Boon, and Gafrarar making up the top 5. Maxwell collected both Mikim Motorsports Fast Time Awards for the weekend.
While the weekend was peppered with new faces in the pits, a very familiar and welcomed face from the past in the form of Ryan Cassity made a popular and triumphant return to Gold Cup competition, taking down the wins in the Briggs & Stratton Masters LO206 Senior class in dominating fashion both days. On Day 1, Cassity topped Matt Skaggs, Chuck Gafrarar, another returning veteran, Florida’s Brad Farmer, and New York’s Tim Stiefel. On Sunday, Cassity returned to the top shelf of the podium, with Stiefel, Scott Hamble, Gafrarar, and Farmer making up the top 5. Cassity also won the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time Award both days.
Going back to Friday nights action, Elmer Edmonson picked up his lone win of win of the weekend, taking the Brads Heating and Cooling Sportsman Pro Gas Shootout, along with a $200 payday. Adam Maxwell came home second, earning $100 for his efforts, with Caleb Gafrarar taking third, and the $50 that goes with it.
Kalb earned his first win of the 5 win weekend, along with the $200 top prize in the Brad’s Heating and Cooling Junior Pro Gas Shootout, topping Matt Miller, who earned $100. Alex Vrabel came home third for a $50 effort on the evening.
Pro Gas or LO206 Senior seems to not faze Jacob Heavlow much, as the Maryland driver took the Senior LO206 Money race, which was run in lieu of the traditional Senior Pro Gas Heavy race on Friday night, taking down the likes of Corey Towles, Zach Linsell, Dustin Demattia, and Sean Meier for the win.
The Shootout races will kick off the final weekend of racing for the Gold Cup Series October 7-9 at Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, South Carolina for the GT Machine Grand Nationals. While many special things are being planned for the weekend, it all starts with running the track backwards for the second time around at the Palmetto State facility. Entry Blank information will be available shortly for the season finale, where Grand National Eagles will be awarded, and champions will be determined for 2016.
Special thanks this past weekend to Rob Smith and Kart City Performance for sponsorship of the New Castle event, and to Mark Dismore, Mike Adams, and their entire staff for providing yet another top notch facility for the Gold Cup competitors to compete at, thus joining Jacksonville and Kershaw for 2016.
On behalf of WKA, our sincerest thanks to all the wonderful families who attended the event, to the many new families that joined us for the weekend for the first time, and some familiar faces from the past, thus making it yet another great RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup weekend.

07.19.2016 - Entry Blank for Kart City Performance Gold Cup Nationals Now Available

gc_logo.2012.png

CONCORD, NC - The Entry Blank for the 3rd race of the season for the RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series, the Kart City Performance Nationals August 5-7 at New Castle Motorsports Park in New Castle, Indiana, is now available for competitors to view and submit.

Several wholesale changes and additions will complement the series return to the famed Midwest facility, including a Friday Night Money Race for Senior LO206 competitors, as well as the addition of a Local Option Senior LO206 Class, utilizing CIK Bodyworks only. The Local Option class will run both Saturday and Sunday as an addition to the 11 National Classes scheduled.

Additionally, World Karting Officials have elected to return the series back to its 2015 format, moving into the second half of the season. There will be no Tiered Fee System. Competitors will pay $85 per class entered from this point until July 29 at 5pm. If competitors miss the pre entry deadline, the At Track Fee will be $110.

Competitors will also pay a 1 time pre entry Practice Fee for the weekend of $60, until July 29 at 5pm, reverting back to the format from last year. At Track Practice Fee for National Competitors will be $70. Local Option class competitors will not practice Friday, but will have 2 rounds of practice on Saturday and Sunday, with a $45 Entry Fee in place per day. If a Local Option class competitor wishes to enter the WKA LO206 all WKA fees will apply.

Officials felt it was also in the best interest of the series moving forward to eliminate the purse structure for the balance of the season, with drivers reverting back to the format of last year as well, with the top 3 drivers running for awards. While the addition of the purses was most attractive, the added entry and practice fees to offset the purses for the 6 classes eligible each race placed a strain on competitors trying to attend all of the events, with set budgets in place. Returning the series back to its previous structure is a work in progress towards returning the program back to very successful numbers attained in 2015.

The New Castle event also affords the organization, as well as New Castle Motorsports Park, who have enjoyed a most successful KRA Series this season, to find an affordable national venue for the huge throng of Local Option racers to run, while also affording the current national series competitors a more close up look at the CIK Style Bodyworks that has become quite popular in the Midwest, as well as many other areas. Track Owner Mark Dismore will be putting up Prize Money and Tires for the overall weekend event top five KRA members in the Local Option race. To be eligible for this award you must have been a registered KRA member since May 1st 2016. WKA National competitors will be allowed to run with the Local Option drivers, as long as they conform to the rules of the class.

As for the Friday night races, the Sportsman and Junior Pro Gas Shootouts will continue, sponsored by Brads Heating and Cooling, with $200 to the winner, $100 for second, and $50 for third. The Senior LO206 Money Race will follow the same purse format as the Senior Pro Gas Money race, with a 75% payout, based on kart count.

06.27.2016 - Boon, Gafrarar, Smith Highlight Weekend of Career Firsts at Kershaw Gold Cup

gc_logo.2012.png

CONCORD, NC - Kershaw, South Carolina in June can only mean 1 thing, HEAT!!!!!!! And there was plenty of it this past weekend at Carolina Motorsports Park for the RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup competitors for their second stop of the 4 race national season. However, with heat index numbers, and sometimes daily temperatures, reaching into the triple digits, the level of competition was extraordinary. A great mix of multiple, repeat, and first time career winners greeted the podium each day, led by the respective 4 and 5 win performances of David Kalb Jr and Jacob Heavlow, the driving forces in the Arrow chassis camp, thus moving Arrow back on top in the overall chassis standings, following the second event of the season.

The weekend also found 1st time career Gold Cup winners in Blake Boon, Caleb Gafrarar, and Rob Smith in their respective classes. Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup regular Danny Dyszelski also showed up on the Gold Cup side for the weekend, taking down 2 national wins, as well as the Friday night Sportsman Pro Gas Shootout, while other wins went to Corey Towles, Hunter Fox, Elmer Edmonson, Sean Meier, and Jimmy Cole Jackson, making for a great mix of national event winners for the weekend.

IMG_3140

IMG_3140

Activities started off Saturday in the Coyote Motorsports Senior Pro Gas Medium class where Heavlow began his weekend points assault, topping brother Jimmy Heavlow, Jim Lipari, Mike Greiner, and Zach Linsell. Jacob would return on Sunday to take down the class again, this time sponsored by Jim’s Marine. However, the day and sponsor were the only differences, as the top 5 changed very little, with Lipari, Jim Heavlow, and Mike Greiner the top 4, while Jacob Connors improved 1 spot from his 6th place Saturday run to claim a top 5. Jacob Heavlow and Jim Lipari were the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time Award winners.

Heavlow also excelled in the Bordeaux Dyno Cams and Trackside Kart Supply Senior Pro Gas Heavy class for the weekend, topping Jimmy Heavlow, Matthew Lewis, Chris Osgood, and Jacob Connors on Day 1, with brother Jimmy, as well as Connors chasing Jake across the stripe on Day 2. Heavlow again claimed the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time awards for both days.

Heavlow accounted for 4 national wins for the weekend, as well as the Friday night Senior Pro Gas Money race, in which he restarted the second half of the race in 6th, yet still found his way to the front to garner yet another checker for the weekend. Mike Greiner came home 2nd on Friday, with Zach Linsell, Patrick O’Neal, and Jimmy Heavlow completing the top 5.

For Ohioan David Kalb Jr, he returned to the scene of his most successful stop from 1 year ago, when he claimed 3 of the 4 class wins in Junior competition. Kalb swept the Junior Pro Gas Lite classes both days, besting Matt Miller, Austin Williamson, Talia Moffett, and Alex Vrabel on Day 1, while Jimmy Cole Jackson chased Kalb to the stripe on Sunday, followed by Vrabel, Williamson, and Moffett. Kalb also swept the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time Awards.

IMG_3189

IMG_3189

What worked well in Lite for Kalb was equally successful in the Briggs & Stratton Racing Junior Pro Gas Heavy class as well, with Kalb topping Miller, Vrabel, Williamson, and Brian Van Cleve on Saturday, with the Sunday top 5 a carbon copy of Day 1. Kalb took the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time effort on Saturday, while Vrabel, inching so much closer to that first national win of the year, was the top qualifier on Sunday. While it wasn’t a national event win in the traditional points sense, Vrabel still turned back all the heavyweights in the Friday Night Junior Pro Gas Shootout sponsored by Brads Heating and Cooling , taking the $200 top prize, with Matt Miller coming home second, grabbing $100, and Austin Williamson, another steadily improving Junior driver, taking the $50 third place prize.

A regular in the Mini Swift and Yamaha Sportsman classes on the Bridgestone Manufacturers Series for WKA, area driver Danny Dyszelski has now showed his prowess in both 2 and 4 Cycle action, taking down 3 wins for the weekend on the 4 Cycle side, starting with the Brads Heating and Cooling Sportsman Pro Gas Shootout Friday night, topping Landen Lewis and Elmer Edmonson for the top $200 prize. Dyszelski then proceeded to take down the MattMillerRacing.com Sportsman Gas Lite class Saturday, edging out Blake Boon, Elmer Edmonson, Landen Lewis, and Hunter Burns, then returning Sunday in the same class, sponsored by Spooner General Contractors, claiming his 3rd win of the weekend. Boon and Edmonson were again second and third, with Burns and Lewis the top 5. Dyszelski and Lewis shared the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time honors.

IMG_2877

IMG_2877

Corey Towles continued his strong season in the Briggs & Stratton Racing Senior LO206 class, taking the Saturday win in the sweltering heat over Sean Meier, Jacob Heavlow, Patrick O’Neal, and Michael Clark. On Sunday, Towles found himself chasing both Jacob Heavlow and Sean Meier, with Meier winning a great battle for the weekend finale. Towles came home second, as Heavlow unfortunately lost a weight on the track, leaving him light at the scales. Michael Clark came home third on the final day with local products JT Swygert and Jeremy Ghent completing the top 5. Towles was the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time winner both days.

Maintaining the theme of the Senior LO206 Class, the Water Medic Junior LO Class also found 2 different winners in victory lane on the weekend, with Hunter Fox taking the checkers on Saturday, topping Jimmy Cole Jackson and Talia Moffett in a tremendous 3-way battle to the stripe, with Matt Miller and Brian Collins completing the top 5. Jackson improved 1 step on the podium Sunday, taking down the win, with Miller, Fox, Brian Van Cleve, and Moffett completing the top 5. Miller and Jackson were the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time winners.

While much celebrating had already taken place on the podiums to this point in the weekend, for some, the best had yet to come, as Blake Boon notched his first career WKA Gold Cup victory, taking the L&A South Tire and Auto Sportsman LO206 win, edging Danny Dyszelski, Kevin Lanyi, Elmer Edmonson, and Caleb Gafrarar. Day #2 saw yet another first time Gold Cup National winner in this class, as Gafrarar laid claim to his first win, topping Dyszelski, Lanyi, Edmonson, and Boon. Gafrarar also claimed the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time wins both days.

The firsts continued in the Masters Senior LO206 Class where long time, and well respected engine builder Rob Smith, took back to the wheel and claimed a popular win in the class, his first career with WKA, topping another well known chassis builder, who ALSO took to the wheel, that being Paul Rice, who finished 2nd. Tim Stiefel and Brad Farmer has a great battle for third, with Stiefel claiming the spot, while Shane Burkett rounded out the top 5. Day 2 found Smith back on top again, with Stiefel and Farmer the top 3, followed by Dirt Series standout Jamie Knopf, and Burkett once again in fifth. Smith took the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time honors both days.

IMG_3134

IMG_3134

And the finale both days was proof positive that it only takes 2 karts to make a show. Elmer Edmonson and Landen Lewis battled the entire distance, practically side by side in the Brad’s Heating and Cooling Sportsman Pro Gas Heavy class, with Edmonson taking the win both days. Both drivers shared the Mikim Motorsports Fast Time honors.

As mentioned earlier, the national points wins by both Heavlow and Kalb, 8 totaled, moves Arrow Chassis to the top of the board with a total of 12 wins for the year. Coyotes success over the weekend, notching 6 wins, places them right on the heels of Arrow with 8 wins, while Razor, aided by the Jimmy Cole Jacksons win, is also at 8 wins for the season. Here’s a look at the current Chassis Standings.

Arrow: 12

Coyote: 8

Razor: 8

Ionic Edge: 6

Bandit: 5

Comet Eagle: 2

The next event for the series returns them back to the Midwest, at Mark Dismore’s New Castle Motorsports Park in Indiana August 5-7 for the Kart City Performance Nationals. Entry info regarding the event will be available shortly.

On behalf of the World Karting Association, our sincerest thanks to all families, competitors, sponsors, track staff, and spectators, for enduring a very hot weekend. Congratulations out to all the first time winners, as well as all winners from the national event weekend.

06.16.2016 - Gold Cuppers Prepping for Summer Heat at Kershaw

gc_logo.2012.png

CONCORD, NC - If the calendar says June, and it’s Kershaw, South Carolina, then the heat is on!!!!! That’s what many 4 cycle competitors on the RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series are preparing for next weekend, as the series takes to the Palmetto State Track for stop #2 on the series. Looking to maintain a hot streak started back in April at 103rd Street Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Florida is Aiden Baker Crouse. The young North Carolina talent scorched the field in April, sweeping the classes he entered, all 6 of them, as well as the Sportsman Pro Gas Shootout on Friday.  Crouse’s wins came in the MattMillerRacing.com Sportsman Pro Gas Lite, LA South Tire Sportsman LO206, and Brads Heating and Cooling Sportsman Pro Gas Heavy classes, thus taking home some serious cash in the Shootout and Pro Classes. Challenging Crouse next weekend are Cale Hall, Elmer Edmonson, Blake Boon, Caleb Gafrarar, to name a few of the heavyweights.

In Junior competition, Matt Miller will be also looking to repeat some of his early season success, following wins in the Junior Pro Gas Lite class both days in Jacksonville, as well as a sweep in the Water Medic Junior LO206 Class. On the Briggs & Stratton Racing Junior Pro Gas Heavy side, Cody Hall was the top dog, taking both days of competition, as well as the Friday Night Shootout event. The duo will be challenged heavily by the likes of Jimmy Cole Jackson, Brian Van Cleve, Riley Kelley, Alex Vrabel, Talia Moffett, Austin Williamson, and many more.

The Senior class will be working hard to figure out the Galina, Maryland One Two punch known as Jacob and Jimmy Heavlow. After sweeping the top spots in the Coyote Motorsports and Jims Marine Senior Pro Gas Medium and Bordeaux Dyno Cams and Trackside Kart Supply Senior Pro Gas Heavy classes, as well as success in the Friday Night Money race, the duo is primed and ready for round #2, with the likes of Sean Meier, Mike Greiner, Josh Stiefel, Paul Headley, Jacob Connors, and others ready for the challenge.

Michael Clark leads the charge to Kershaw in the Briggs & Stratton Racing and Inferno Racing Clutches Senior LO206 class, looking to unseat Florida winner Corey Towles. Clark was a close second in the season opener to both Towles and Sunday winner Jason Yarbrough.

The debut of the Masters Senior class was a huge hit, with 9 drivers joining the new class, including inaugural winners Joey Miller and Brad Farmer. The class also witnessed some of the tightest battle throughout the days of racing, as well as some clean racing, and close finishes.

These classes, as well as the Boon and Sons Kid Kart competitors will be in action for a full 2 days of racing, beginning with the traditional Friday Practice Day, followed by the Sportsman and Junior Pro Gas Shootouts, each 10 lap races paying $200 to win, $100 for 2nd, and $50 for third, sponsored by Brads Heating and Cooling.  The Senior Pro Gas class will again have their traditional Friday Night race as well, with a 75% payback going to the top 5, based on the kart count for the event.

Saturday and Sunday will feature 6 classes running for an overall weekend top prize of $500, with $250 going to second, and $150 to third. Those classes include:

Sportsman Pro Gas Heavy

Junior Pro Gas Lite

Junior Pro Gas Heavy

Senior Pro Gas Medium

Following a 1year hiatus, the series returns back to Briggs & Stratton Raceway Park in Dousman, Wisconsin August 25-27, with the finale for the series this year at GoPro Motorplex October 13-15 for the series Grand National event.

The schedule allows fans and competitors to once again enjoy the beaches of Daytona, a little cooler weather in Pittsburgh in May, a possible monster summer clash prior to the SKUSA Summer Nat’s at New Castle in July, a dip into the late summer Wisconsin weather at Badger, and the chance to hoist a Grand National Eagle in the shadows of the NASCAR Hall of Fame and Race Shops at GoPro Motorplex.

While the Manufacturers Cup Series has enjoyed success for quite some time, the all new WKA Winter Cup Series enjoyed a strong response and great attendance for all 3 of their inaugural events immediately. The series will shift gears somewhat in 2017, entertaining 2 new venues to their schedule, and also starting at a later date than last season. The series will kick off its season opener at Ocala Gran Prix in Ocala, Florida February 3-5. From there, the series will head to the NOLA Motorsports Complex in Louisiana for the series first ever run in the Bayou State March 3-5, with the season finale once again wrapping up at GoPro Motorplex in Mooresville, North Carolina.

Discussions are also underway with various facilities for the RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series but we can confirm working with the great people at North Florida Kart Club and President Brad Farmer a return to Jacksonville for Round 1 of the 2017 Gold Cup March 24-26, and we will be finalizing the balance of the Gold Cup schedule, as well as the Dunlop/Xeramic National Road Race Series presented by Russell Karting shortly.

Additionally, the respective Competition and Tech Committees are holding meetings to discuss class structure and rules for the upcoming season, in preparation for the upcoming Tech Manual Meeting with the WKA Board of Trustees, being held 1 month earlier this year, following the July Manufacturers Cup event at New Castle Motorsports Park.

06.08.2016 - Tier 2 Deadline for Kershaw Gold Cup June 15

gc_logo.2012.png

CONCORD, NC - As competitors continue to gear up for the Carolina Summer Nationals for the RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series June 24-26 at Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, South Carolina, it is important to note that the Tier 2 deadline for drivers who have not yet entered is closing in fast, with a deadline of Wednesday June 15 fast approaching. The Kershaw event will mark the second of 4 events for the prestigious 4 Cycle program, coming off a successful season opener in Jacksonville, Florida where 6 drivers walked away with a $500 payday, 6 more took home $250, and another 6 netted $150 by virtue of the new purse structure implemented this year in several classes.

Some drivers added to those winnings by taking part in the Shootout races Friday night, sponsored by Brads Heating and Cooling, with winners getting $200, second paying $100, and the third place finishers coming away with $50, as well as awards for the top 3. Additionally, money was won in the Senior Pro Gas Money race as well, giving the large percentage in attendance many opportunities to take home some purse money.

That same theme will continue at Kershaw in a few weeks, as the best in 4 Cycle Sprint racing tackle the Palmetto State complex.

Activities get underway Friday morning with a full day of practice, beginning at 8:30am, and running till 4:30pm.
