In 2015 the WKA Man. Cup Series offers the pre-final winner 200 points plus the number of class entries (175 plus the number of entries for 2nd, 155 plus the number of entries for 3rd, and so on as outlined in the WKA Tech Manual).

The final race is more valuable as the winner will earn 200 points plus TWICE the number of class entries (175 plus TWICE the number of entries for 2nd, 155 plus TWICE the number of entries for 3rd, and so on).

For the first time each national event offers each class entrant two opportunities to capture five bonus points. Each class’s Streeter Super Stands Pole Award winner will earn five bonus points toward the national standings, and the driver who earns the fastest lap time in the final will earn five bonus points at each event.

The Grand Nationals event will continue to offer bonus points and the WKA Divisional Series bonus points system remains in effect.

Direct points questions to Jeanne Harrison at members@worldkarting.com or call the WKA Office at 704-455-1606.

02.09.2015 - NEARLY 500 ENTRIES COMPETE AT DAYTONA ROAD RACE CHAMPIONSHIPS

daytona krapp 1.jpg

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Just shy of 500 entries made the latest version of the World Karting Association Daytona Road Race Championships another successful event for enduro-style kart racing.

Terrific weather greeted Road Race teams to Daytona Beach for parking day Saturday, December 27. As teams filed into the Daytona International Speedway garage area throughout the day, racers took advantage of the pleasant weather to get registered and their karts pre-teched and prepared for Sunday’s day of official practice.

Sunday’s practice and Monday’s first day of racing again saw racers compete under mostly clear skies and comfortable temperatures. It wasn’t until Tuesday’s last day of racing that Mother Nature decided to challenge the WKA Event Staff, led by Race Director Brandon Taylor. The skies spit rain throughout Tuesday morning and fog and a light mist continued through the early hours of the event until dry, yet chilly weather allowed the event to be completed in its entirety for the first time since 2012.

With entries strong and every racer in attendance given the opportunity to complete their runs, the event clearly was a success on several levels. Nearly every garage space was occupied over the four-day stretch, and most classes boasted double-digit entry counts and close competition on the 3.56-mile DIS superspeedway road course.

Here’s a rundown of the racing and results at the 2014 Daytona Road Race Championships.

MONDAY RACE ONE
One of the event’s largest race groups kicked racing off Monday morning with well over 50 sprint-enduro karts taking the green flag in race group one.

Stephen Bassham scored the win in Stock Leopard Sprint Final 1, sponsored by Streeter Super Stands. Alex Laughlin was second, Streeter’s Jeff Wesell third, Jamey Brown fourth and Gary Lamrowski fifth.
